    “Shane,” Ilya interrupts, taking Shane’s face into his hands and squeezing just enough to make Shane’s lips pucker out. “You are going crazy at home. You love to skate. You love hockey. So let’s go skate. And play hockey. Just you and me, okay?”

    Oh. 

    There’s so many things he wants to say. Like how much he loves Ilya. Or how glad he is that they’d taken the plunge off that scary, crazy cliff when they were teenagers. Or how even in the midst of the craziness and anxiety and unknown, Shane is so fucking excited for the life they’re going to have.

    But it all gets caught in his throat as emotion takes hold, and all he can do is nod and say, “Okay.”

She scratches her fingers through his hair afterwards and he traces letters into the skin above her knee.

    So when he gets the impulse to buy Hollander flowers, he doesn’t hesitate. Maybe it’s because Hollander is so cute with his little freckles. Maybe because he gets irritated so easily, that flush spilling down his collarbones to his chest. Maybe Ilya just wants to reward him for opening the door after that CCM shoot, or for letting Ilya suck his dick after the All-Stars even with Scott Hunter next door.

    Hayden hated the guy. Hated him. Hated his stupid, smug smirk and the myriad of insults he threw Hayden’s way and the way he made fun of Shane like it was a funny game then looked him up and down like a piece of meat and his reputation of sleeping with everything that fucking moved and the memories of being slammed into the boards by him and quite literally everything about this Russian dickhead. And he hated that he was now going to have to do everything in his power to learn how to tolerate Rozanov because Shane was inexplicably and hopelessly in love with him, and Shane was his brother in every fucking thing but blood, and Hayden was not going to keep being responsible for that sad puppy look on his face every time he realized how poorly they got along. So far, Hayden sucked at it. Big time. --- It bothers Shane that Hayden and Ilya don't get along, so Hayden is putting in the effort to try and see these redeeming qualities Shane claims the guy has.
