“What if I forget… everything?” Ilya swallowed hard. “I can’t forget you. I can’t forget us. I don’t think I could - ” “Nothing is happening tonight,” Shane reassured, "And if things ever get hard… you won’t go through it alone.” After a rough evening triggered by fears of Alzheimer’s, Ilya spirals in the only way he knows how - by skating harder. Shane makes sure he never has to face that fear alone by showing him that some memories are made to be shared.

He makes him snacks with fucking buckwheat in them and he even gets Shane to take a day off once in a blue moon. He’s an asshole,” Hayden says. “He’s obnoxious and rude and frankly, unpleasant. I’m not saying he’s a good guy. But he is a good husband.” Or: 5 times Hayden defends Ilya behind his back, +1 time he defends Ilya in front of him

After their engagement, Ilya and Shane return to Russia under the cover of the Irina Foundation, knowing it may be the last time Ilya ever sets foot there. What waits for him is not closure, but grief, memory, and a past he learned to survive by becoming quiet and hard. It isn’t about going back to the life he escaped. It’s about one final goodbye—to the place that shaped him, and to the mother he never stopped missing. With Shane beside him—steady, patient, and fiercely careful—Ilya faces grief he’s spent years surviving, old fear that still lives in his bones, and the quiet truth he’s been avoiding: some doors don’t close cleanly… but you can still choose how to leave them. This is a story about grief, survival, and choosing a future where home is no longer a place, but a person.

  6. Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov had been household names for years, yet the media still treated them like gladiators thrown into an arena for public entertainment. Hollywood had never manufactured a rivalry this blatant before—and of course they were the guinea pigs. The blueprint. The cautionary tale in the making. The money was obscene. The roles were constant. And the studios? They were practically frothing at the mouth. If Shane landed a blockbuster, Ilya was mysteriously cast in a competing one within days. Rival studios loved the drama, the headlines, the built‑in war. And if Ilya was favored to win at the box office against Shane, well then, who was Ilya to complain about it? Boring Canadian: Got to go BC: Text you later? Ilya: Okay Ilya: Don’t get hard thinking of me blowing you BC: Fuck you! Ilya: You’re hard, aren’t you? BC: … Ilya: My good little slut BC: TURNING OFF MY PHONE NOW!!!!!!!! ---- Or Shane and Ilya have a complicated work-life relationship, and it becomes so much more than either of them could have ever imagined.

Maybe he was picturing what it meant to say yes. “Yes.” He said it anyway. “I can go five days without touching you.” Shane stuck out his chin to emphasize. Ilya let out a cackle. “Sure, Hollander.” Five times Shane and Ilya could resist touching each other, one time where they couldn't

  9. Based very loosely on events from The Long Game that my brain wanted to put into the first book, somewhere between Shane’s injury, and before Scott Hunter wins the cup - for maximum angst, obviously.

What if Ilya’s plane had actually crashed? And what if it had happened before he and Shane had the chance to confess their love and know what it was like to be together.

  10. “That, and the exhausted edge to his voice when he’d asked Hayden if they could change the topic of conversation. Because Hayden had been complaining about Rozanov for nearly half an hour, so drained he’d actually forgotten that maybe the person who, for some reason, loved him wouldn’t want to hear about Hayden’s many grievances. Especially while they were literally on the way to a movie night with the guy. Hayden’s mouth clicked shut, guilt building up sticky behind his teeth as he understood just how badly he must have fucked up for Shane Hollander to ask for something he wanted, namely, for Hayden to stop being a dick.”

  11. Maybe it was the alcohol. Maybe it was the month of silence, of sleepless nights and unsaid words piling up inside him. Maybe it was the simple, terrifying certainty that if Shane walked away again, it could be for good. That if he didn’t say something now, he never would. Resolve settled heavy in Ilya’s chest. “Shane Hollander,” he breathed unsteadily. “Running away from me again. 12. Now that he could finally recognize who the man in front of him was, everything flooded back into the forefront of his mind. The nights he spent in Moscow poring over hockey content on YouTube, how watching the teen that was poised to be his rival stirred up newfound ambition to become the greatest instead. He remembered that career-ending hit as well, the way Shane’s body crumpled on the ice, tiny and unconscious, body contorted unnaturally as his teammates crowded around him. He remembered the disappointment he felt at not having anyone else to best, to directly compare himself against. Time had passed, and so too did that disappointment in favor of achieving the greatness that Hollander promised. And with that time, Shane Hollander was just another name of the past. But now he was right in front of him, freckles all in the same spots and gear replaced with ugly knit sweaters. Or In which Shane Hollander never became the hockey legend he was supposed to. Ilya Rozanov did. Somehow, in the midst of a blizzard, their stories intertwined once more.

He is scared shitless. Turns out, there is no need to be because Captain Rozanov is clearly back in the game. And he can skate again. *** This is a part of my on-going "Hold On (I Still Want You)" series and cannot really be read as stand-alone, therefore I strongly recommend getting the context from the first fic!

Shane and Ilya have been together--officially-- for two years, and it's been going relatively well despite all the itty-bitty bumps on the road. Having to date in secret is never 'light and breezy'. It's definitely not light and breezy when Shane's childhood best friend visits. It's okay at first, nudged shoulders and inside jokes Ilya didn't understand. The second the nudges got too intimate, when the jokes got too sexual is when he realized something was off. He stays quiet, plays along, tries his fucking hardest not to punch Nathan goddamn Hales square in his annoyingly handsome face. When Ilya does talk to Shane about it, admittedly in the worst way possible, a fight breaks out. regrettable word choices are made, and a door is shut. And it was all Nathan fucking Hales fault.

  18. Familiar: (Adj.) Of established friendship; intimate. - Hollander will react poorly, he expects. Maybe even file a formal complaint. That will suck, but Ilya won’t fight it because he, unfortunately, is just enough of a dick to have done this without good reason. Still, there is a chance he can avoid the paperwork if he is forgiven, so he prepares a nice Canadian apology on his tongue before Hollander has turned around. What he doesn’t expect is Hollander to fucking drop. - OR Ilya Rozanov accidentally causes his classmate Shane Hollander to drop in the middle of campus.

  19. “Come on, Shane don’t be like this.” “Be like what exactly?” Shane found himself biting out, already regretting the answer the moment the words left his mouth. Hayden groaned, the sound of his tired exhale hanging in the air as he dropped his greasy bag of fast food onto the nightstand. With a soft rustle of sheets, he settled onto the edge of the bed. Shane could feel his eyes on him, though he was still facing away, not being able to bring himself to meet Hayden’s eyes just yet. “Look, I’m just not used to it yet, alright?” Hayden’s voice was low, edged with frustration. “Can you blame me? We used to talk shit about him all the time, and now I’m just supposed to... what? Like Rozanov?” -- Or: Despite the dinner with Hayden eventually ending with an apology, and some sort of truce between Hayden and Ilya, Shane is still struggling.

  20. Ilya considers, then, the idea of a smaller joy, the kind so molecular no one would know how to make him feel sorry for any of it. He thinks of Svetlana and him at McDonald’s, drunk and laughing; sprints, instead of long and dreadful runs; and even then that familiar swath of freckles, all faded from weak winter sun. There are times when Ilya is sorry, and there are times when he is not. (or: Heated Rivalry, as told through so many apologies.)
