  1. “Hunter,” he said, all self-satisfied smirking before he’d so much as said hello, sliding his phone onto the table between them. “You are not in bed yet? Is very late.”

“Rozanov,” he said, lips pressed in a resigned half-smile. “You don’t have anything better to do?”

“No,” Rozanov shrugged, pouting so minutely Scott thought the expression might actually have been sincere, not meant for him to see. “My plus-one could not make it.”

Ah. Now that, he could commiserate with. Though he seriously doubted that Rozanov was missing whatever poor woman he had attempted to sweet-talk into a slinky dress and onto his arm for the red carpet as much as Scott missed Kip. “That sucks. Mine neither.”

Or: Scott Hunter has an enlightening conversation with Ilya Rozanov after his speech at the MLH awards.

“Y-yeah?” Shane stutters. “It’s always nice to play Boston, I guess. Rivals and all, y’know.”

    Crosby nods. “Just be careful.”

    Shane blinks, confused. “Of what?”

“I see the way he looks at you.”

    “Who?”

    “Rozanov.”

Shane stares, and Crosby stares back, unwavering.

    “I don’t—”

“And I see the way you look at him, when you think no one is looking.”

“Oh,” Shane said, feeling his mouth drop open. “Wow. You’re beautiful too. I was thinking that before you woke up. I’m not just copying you,” he added, quickly.

The man beamed at Shane. “It is okay to copy. I know I have good idea.”

  7. Ilya has never been the jealous type. Not with Svetlana, or Sasha, or the women he's met on his pilgrimage around the MLH circuit in Canada, or the States. Not the ones in clubs under the streets of Moscow, St. Petersburg, anywhere else Sveta could drag his aching soul.

No, Ilya has never been the jealous type.

    Well. Other than with Shane.

  12. At last, Ilya arrives at Shane’s cottage.

After barely surviving the worst year of his life, the only thing that got him through was thinking about getting back to Shane, touching him again, finally getting those two weeks that Shane promised him all those months ago.

But, blyat, why is Shane acting so weird?

  13. Inspired by this tumblr post.

"I did," Shane and Rozanov answer simultaneously, then cut their eyes at each other, and Hayden is pretty sure he already regrets asking who made the first move, but honestly he's still trying to wrap his brain around this relationship and it seemed like the best place to start.

  14. The touch is gentle and the cream is soothing but that doesn't stop the soft yelp that escapes Shane's lips at the touch. It isn't dissimilar to any other bruise he's gotten in his life, especially playing such a high velocity, full contact sport for a living. Except, those bruises were always angry and gnarled and put there in bouts of aggression and violence.

The bruises under Ilya's wide, warm palms were put there with love and devotion, with whispered words of degradation chased with the candied edge of praise. Each gently throbbing bruise and slightly raised welt decorating his skin this morning were honeyed kisses placed with perfect precision by the man who Shane has devoted himself to – mind, body, and soul.

Or, Shane experiences subdrop at an in opportune time and Ilya helps him.

  15. “You like this.” Ilya said more like a statement than a question.

    “Like what?”

“When I said that this is something serious.”

    Shane blushed and looked away.

Ilya gently grabbed Shane's chin and brought his face up to meet Ilya’s eyes.

    “I like it too.”

    OR

Shane and Ilya don’t hook up until a little later on in their story, but not for lack of trying or interest. When they do finally get together, things move faster and feelings are expressed sooner. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t difficult moments to overcome on the path to their happy ending.

This story is an exploration of a completely alternative timeline in the Hollanov love story—using a combination of the show and the original Heated Rivalry and Long Game books. There will be pining, yearning, big emotional moments, and angsty roadblocks. With, of course, a very happy ending for our boys.

  16. Shane Hollander can’t keep sitting on his couch, nursing a broken leg and watching his team drown without him. He’ll do anything to fill the gap hockey left behind, even something as stupid as competing on Celebrity MasterChef.

Shane wants a distraction so big he’ll forget hockey, forget Rozanov, and especially forget that afternoon in Boston, and the outstretched hand he walked away from. Unfortunately for Shane, ignoring Rozanov won’t be so easy when he’s one table away, wearing a matching apron, and talking to the cameras about the recipes that shaped his childhood.

(Or: Right after the tuna-melt scene, both Shane and Ilya get injured, and to fill the time they both decide to go on Celebrity MasterChef.)

  17. Sometimes, Ilya Rozanov is just a weird guy. Obviously, the Bears aren’t going to say that to his face, not when he’ll chirp them into oblivion for it, but sometimes it just gets out of hand.

Like the late night phone calls where he’s talking aggressively in Russian. The random knowledge he has offhand about how far you can throw a human being and have them come out okay. The Russian death metal he forces them to listen to, calling it family bonding. The scars he refuses to talk about.

Cliff Marleau thinks he might be in the Russian mob. The Bratva, or whatever they call it.

Ilya doesn't tell his team about his family until they've already invented a thousand conspiracies about it. Like him being in the mob. Or having rabies.

In which Ilya Rozanov and Yuri Plisetsky are brothers, and the world changes with the most minute of connections.

Now featuring Shane and Ilya's POVs on the canon divergence starting from chapter 5.

  18. “You know, I could marry Svetlana,” Ilya said, apropos of nothing. Shane looked up from his phone, frowning. “To get an American passport,” Ilya went on, casual as anything, like they were talking about travel plans or a trade rumor. Not Shane’s worst nightmare. “It would be like a business agreement. She would do it.” “Okay,” Shane said slowly, already hearing the faint crack in his voice. “Sure. A business agreement. But…It’s not like you could just fake it. You’d have to live with her. She would get to come home to you.” “Yes, but it would be like roommates,” Ilya said. “We could still be this-” he gestured loosely between them, like that explained everything. “She wouldn’t mind.” “She’d be your wife, Ilya.” The word was like a lash, even to his own ears. --- What if the "I could marry Svetlana" scene and Ilya being LOST in the sauce sex scene had a baby? And that baby was angst + comfort + shower sex?

  19. His hair's longer than he usually kept it. Not by design, it just hadn't gotten cut and now it curled a little at the back of his neck and that was different enough to maybe matter. He's in a dark t-shirt and jeans. No hat, no jersey. Nothing with a name on it.

He looks like himself with uncomfortable contacts and slightly overgrown hair.

He turns off the bathroom light.

Troy visits Montreal while Cup celebrations are in full swing, hoping the business of the city is enough to provide cover while he meets up with a guy from an app. Only the guy doesn't show, and who takes his place happens to be no other than J.J. Boiziau.

  20. Following Shane and Scott's fight on the ice, Ilya completely loses his mind, and thinks it's a good idea to break into Scott's home and attempt to physically assault him for an, at worst, ambiguously homophobic comment (and, far more likely, a mere jab at their famous rivalry). Scott informs him that, not only does he not have any idea about Shane and Ilya (because he has a life, and is not a television viewer following their actions at all times, nor does he have an encyclopedic memory of every awkward encounter he's had over the last few years) but that his actions are downright illegal, not to mention insanely homophobic.

Or: the author is a gay man who has seen way too many fics with this disgustingly homophobic premise, and he is so very tired.
