When Scott’s parents died, it had been like being struck by lightning. A disaster out of the blue. This, waiting for the hammer to fall, was worse. It had been four days. People didn’t just disappear for four days for no reason.
Or: When Scott can’t get in touch with Kip for several days, he realizes the pitfalls of how isolated they are.

”Ilya!” Shane was lying in a hospital bed, the sun from the open blinds making him glow almost as much as the smile on his face did. ”Mom, dad, it’s Ilya!” ”We can see that”, Mr. Hollander said. ”For whatever reason”, Mrs. Hollander said. // Or, Shane had no inhibitions and multiple visitors.

Shane is still learning that he doesn't have to be perfect in his own relationship. Ilya is still learning the rules of Shane's bad days. So when Shane tries to push him away after a crushing loss, it leads to a tense argument. But ten years of rivalry are no match for Shane’s tears; the second he starts to cry, Ilya folds like a house of cards. Or: Shane tries to starve himself as punishment for losing, Ilya tries to feed him, and it turns into a very soft night of pampering because Ilya is legally incapable of staying angry at a crying Shane.

“We had a visitor waiting when we got back to the house tonight.” Yuna finally spoke. “It was, of course, alarming to find a stranger in our driveway, a car we didn’t recognize, a person we didn’t recognize.” “Okay.” Ilya intently listened, nodding at everything. “She explained that she had found me through the foundation, and wanted to reach out to me before she did anything else.” Her hands reassuringly squeezed around Ilya’s ones, eyes never leaving his even for a second. With a deep breath in, she closed her eyes. “She told us her name is Irina. Irina Sergeevna Rozanova.” OR Irina Rozanova survives her suicide attempt but goes into hiding. Only after Grigori dies, she feels safe enough to find her son. OR Irina lives

He goes to the bed. Hollander comes to him, presses his face to Ilya's groin without being asked. His eyes are closed. He's breathing on the hot line of Ilya's dick, like this is the only place he wants to be. Fuck. Fuck. Ilya blindly reaches for his glass. His fingers, cool and wet. He nudges at the corner of Hollander’s mouth, and Hollander tilts his face toward him, opens up. Lets Ilya rub vodka into the warm hollow of his tongue.

Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid

Summer at the cottage was supposed to be relaxing. It turns into everything but—when Ilya drops “I could marry Svetlana” for an american visa like it’s a grocery list item. Shane’s face says over my dead body while Ilya, delighted, teases him for looking ready to commit “murder-suicide.” (He’s not wrong.) Shane Hollander has one big problem: he can’t let Ilya Rozanov marry anyone else. Not now. Not ever. So he does the unthinkable and proposes the most boring solution imaginable almost by accident. / Canon-Divergence /

Ilya groans as he pushes himself off the couch, popping his back before padding toward the door. He opens the door with the bitchiest expression he can muster, ready to yell at whoever is disturbing his time to mope. Until he realizes he is looking at Shane fucking Hollander. ~*~*~*~*~*~ Ilya does not go to the cottage. (Shane goes to him instead.)

Over the course of his NHL career, Shane Hollander had come face-to-face with Ilya Rozanov hundreds of times. But in all of that time, Shane had never seen him like this. “Hollander,” Rozanov said, accent even thicker than usual. Ah. He was drunk. [Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov have been NHL rivals for over a decade. One strange chance meeting leads to more.]

There’s a kind of ringing starting up in Shane’s ears. He’s spent the last four days replaying parts of his conversation with Ilya in the hospital over and over in his head — mostly Ilya’s explanation of the plan, and the pit of dread that opened up inside him when Ilya said he’d outed them — and he’s just considering now what Ilya had actually said to him: I told them that I am in love with you.

"And so, like, Roz is never at these things?" Barrett had asked. "Well, he's come once or twice." Bood had answered, a thoughtful face on. "We always invite him, though I know at this point he's going to be busy." "But what's he doing?" Barrett asked, his face crunched up. "It's an Ottawa Centaurs mystery." Harris was sitting next to Barrett and was grinning at him as he elaborated. "Just like how NHL star Ilya Rozanov gets traded, willingly and by his own choice, to Ottawa and yet, no one knows why he chose the team." Or The Ottawa Centaurs have their own theories about what their captain gets up to in his free time. Wyatt Hayes organizes a bet about it. If only getting an answer out of Rozanov would be easy.

why did you invite me to your wedding by Anonymous
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2025-12-28
“Why are you calling me, Hollander?” Ilya asks more harshly than he means to. But he’s tired, and impatient, and strung out on a mixture of emotions and longing for the voice on the other end of the phone. “If nothing is wrong, why are you calling?”
“Will you come?” Shane asks, and Ilya’s heart sinks before he can even say the rest of it. He shouldn’t have asked. He should have just let Shane ramble. “To…to the wedding?”
The lump in his throat feels insurmountable. But he manages to say, “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
Shane doesn’t acknowledge it. “I invited alllll these people, but the only one I actually care if they come or not is you.” He stops and giggles. “Isn’t that weird?”
“Yes,” Ilya replies, because it is. You shouldn’t want your years-long situationship at your wedding. He doesn’t want the drunken musings of Shane Hollander to give him hope.
_________
Or Shane gets engaged. Ilya gets a phone call. Everything breaks. But sometimes breaking is what finally makes room for the truth.
