Ilya Rozanov. One of the star players of the NHL, nearly a decade into his career. Center for the Boston Bears, a brutal, fast player known for womanizers tendencies and his bragging habits.

Kip had learned a lot about hockey in the last three years, unable to swipe past anything to do with Scott’s career. Ilya Rozanov was a difficult player to mistake and it was his distinctive build that stood beside him now, glaring down at the buildings as if they’d personally offended him.

“...Hi.” Kip had to give himself credit. Even with the hesitation, the greeting was clear and strong, pushed past the tightness of his shirt on his shoulders, his collar resting against his throat.

“Hello,” said Rozanov, shifting to cross his arms and lean them against the railing. His suit was near to the navy blue Kip was wearing– a popular color, and he was doubly glad Scott had insisted on it. “Is nice out here. Cold.”

Three times that Ilya supported Scott's relationship and one time he defended his own.

But the world has changed. It’s 2025. They play for the same team, live in the same house, and Ilya Rozanov is wearing a wedding ring.

  3. Oh no, Shane thought. Oh God. No. Ignoring his clammy palms, he scanned the tiny hotel room, wondering where he could even lay his bag. Then, after a breathtaking second, he forced his eyes to meet Rozanov’s. With a mischievous smirk, Rozanov was sitting casually on the only bed, arm draped over the pillows—including the pillow that Shane had to sleep on. And Rozanov’s muscular chest and arms were on full, shameless display. Shane might just die. “So,” Rozanov said, “you and me, we sleep together?” Or: Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov were stuck in the same hotel room in Saskatchewan after the International Prospect Cup ended—and there was only one bed.

  4. It wasn’t something he did on purpose. And he doesn’t remember exactly when he started. All Shane knows is one day, when he was 16, he got a bad grade on a math test, and his parents rule was that as soon as any of his grades dipped below a B-, he was off the hockey team. He was still standing strong with a B+, and with only a couple months left of the year, chances are things would stay that way, but Shane still worked himself into a panic, and before he knew it, he was pinching his upper arm so hard that once he finally loosened his grip, it bruised immediately. So yeah. That became a thing. or Shane doesn't mean to hurt himself. It just ... happens. --- Set between 'Heated Rivalry' and 'The Long Game'.

  6. "What happened?" "I missed the edge of the table." Shane curled inward a little more, tense. "No shit," Ilya said, unimpressed. "How did Montreal's number one scorer miss this big table?" Now Shane cracked an eye at him. "Fuck off, Rozanov." "Shane." He sighed. "I can't really see right now." Shane gets a migraine at the cottage. Ilya learns how to help. Shane returned to wakefulness slowly in the late afternoon sun, lake water long since having evaporated from his swim trunks as he napped in the lounge chair. Content to remain in the blurry, quiet space between sleep and alertness, he kept his eyes closed and just breathed. His towel was soft and sun-warmed where he had tossed it over his bare chest and arms for sun protection before sliding on his sunglasses and conking out. Romping and splashing in the lake with Ilya like Hayden's twin children had tired them both out. He shifted slightly, wincing at the stiff pull of his neck after sleeping too long in the outdoor chair and cracked one eye open. His boyfriend was sprawled, loose-limbed, in the chair beside Shane's, but turned the wrong way around. Ilya lay on his stomach, head pillowed on his towel at the foot of the long chair, his strong back curving appealingly over the wooden slats. One arm was bent around his head, flattening half of Ilya's fluffy wet-then-dried curls. The other was draped across the distance between their chairs, his big hand resting warm and possessive on Shane's ankle. Shane huffed lightly, amused. He pried the other eye open and rolled his head to the left to admire the expanse of warm, golden skin as Ilya basked in the warmth of the afternoon. (He was only a man, after all.) Then, because he was also a little shit sometimes (and he wanted to see Ilya's eyes when he woke up), he flexed one leg and wiggled the ankle that Ilya's fingers loosely cradled, jostling him. "Ilya. You're going to burn." "Nyet," his boyfriend replied, not opening his eyes. He squeezed once, tightly, thumb rolling over the knobby bone of Shane's ankle. "You need sunscreen. Or a shirt," Shane said, wobbling his ankle again. This time, Ilya inhaled deeply with annoyance and aimed a sleepy, slitted glare at Shane. Shane couldn't help but smile at him. "You just want me covered because I am too beautiful to look at," Ilya lamented, releasing Shane's ankle and rolling dramatically to his side. "Is ok, Hollander. Many people tell me this." Shane blinked a few times to try and clear away the blurriness of sleep. He really shouldn't have allowed himself to nap - he always feels like he woke up in another dimension. Ilya swung his feet to the ground and stood, stretching until his spine popped. "I'm hungry. Ready to go in?" Shane nodded, regretting that he hadn't brought a water bottle out to the chairs. His mouth felt cottony. "Yeah. Let's go." He toed on his slides and trailed behind Ilya up the stairs to the cottage, still feeling blurry around the edges, but content with the prospect of the evening ahead. They had plenty of easy options for dinner, and they were slowly working through the catalog of terrible action movies on Netflix. Though Ilya had asked on the way to the cottage, eyes sharp and laughing, if their plan was really to relax, they had been taking the chance to just spend time in each other's presence without rushing. Now, Shane knew that Ilya got short-tempered and nonverbal if he didn't have coffee within 30 minutes of waking, and Ilya had learned that Shane had a visceral, full-body reaction to stepping in a puddle on the bathroom floor if Ilya forgot to use a shower mat. They were learning each others' orbits. Ilya opened the back door and stepped aside, brushing a hand lightly on Shane's lower back as he stepped in. "Sandwiches ok? I will shower, then we eat?" "Sure," Shane said. "I got the pickles you like. I'll start getting things out in a minute. He slipped off his dark glasses and rubbed his eyes roughly, internally cursing the sun's afterimage still lingering in his vision. "I just need to grab some water." Ilya nodded, eyes lingering briefly as Shane made his way around the kitchen to grab a glass, hand trailing on the island countertop. "You ok?" "What? Yeah, fine. Just didn't drink enough today, I guess." Shane selected a glass and turned on the tap, watching the water slowly fill. It really was good water. Ilya padded over behind him to press a smacking kiss to the back of Shane's bare shoulder, squeezing his hip. "You sit, I will be gourmet sandwich chef after I shower." Shane laughed. "Okay." He turned and kissed Ilya back, reveling in the ease which has come with familiarity and time. "Go shower." Ilya smacked him lightly on the ass, eyes fond and warm and maybe anticipating what would likely happen when they got bored of the movie (Shane would never admit that watching a movie on the couch with Ilya in his soft sweatpants and long sleeves made him unspeakably handsy.) Grabbing his towel, he headed for the shower. Shane made his way down to the living room and dropped onto the couch with a sigh, water still in his hand. He tipped his head back until it rested on the cushion. He also should shower the lake water off, but he couldn't quite blink the sun spots from his eyes from their long afternoon outside. And he really needed to hydrate. He raised the glass to his lips and drained half of it, eyes still squeezed shut, and focused on breathing slowly to abate the vague nausea that was rising. Shane heard the shower turn off in the master bathroom. He needed to get moving before Ilya came out and saw him sitting in the living room with the lights off like a lunatic. He opened his bleary eyes and leaned forward to place the glass on the coffee table so that he could make his way to the shower, starting to lever to his feet when— CRASH. Shane flinched and leapt to his feet, startled by the noise of his glass shattering on the floor. Shit. Cold water splashed onto his bare feet and shins, but his vision was still weird, hazy around the edges and a little wavy like sun on concrete in the summer and where was the edge of the coffee table and— The sound of bare footsteps in the hall, quick. "—what—Shane—fuck—no, do not move—"

  7. “Are you still cold, moya lazan'ya?” Ilya asks, gently touching his hand to Shane’s thigh to get his attention. “Your what?” He lifts his head from where he’d been resting it against the airplane window, blinking blearily. “Lasagna?” “Yes. Look at you, with all the, uh…” The English word he’s searching for eludes him, so he simply gestures at his husband, clad in a T-Shirt, a hoodie and two jackets, both his own and Ilya’s. The latter is slightly too big even on Shane’s muscular frame, and being wrapped up in it almost makes him look small. _____ While on the airplane on the way home after a series of games with the Ottawa team, Shane is hit hard by the flu. The fever makes him emotional, and Ilya has feelings about that. Incredibly soft feelings.

His mother stared at him, wide eyed and more than a little panicked. "Shane, honey, what do you remember?"

He searched his mind for a memory of this game, of the injury - but nothing came to him. The pain worsened, and he groaned, clutching his head. Fuck, that hurt.

"Shane, is okay. Don't hurt yourself more, please." Rozanov said. He moved his hand towards Shane's, trying to grasp hold of it.

Shane swatted him away violently, aghast. What the fuck was he playing at?

"Get the fuck off of me, Rozanov."

Both Rozanov and his mother gaped at him.

"Shane-" Rozanov tried again, but Shane wasn't having it.

He was beginning to panic. It was too much; the too-bright blue lights, his mother's panic, the constant beeping of the monitor, the big gaping whole in his memory, the godawful scratchy feeling of the cheap fabric of the hospital gown - it was all making him lose his fucking mind because it was making him itch and too hot and - and worst of all, Ilya fucking Rozanov was trying to hold his hand and call him sweetheart in front of his mom.

  10. Hollander takes a hit. Pike makes a call. Rozanov answers.

Or; Ilya learns a new vocabulary word, Hayden just can’t connect the dots, and Shane seriously doesn’t need this stress.

Just another finding-out-about-Lily after Shane’s hit fic based on a tumblr prompt I can’t track down (or maybe I hallucinated?) that said if Ilya answered when someone called Lily, people would probably assume Lily was one of Ilya’s girls before they assumed it was Ilya himself.

  11. “You’ve got to show Hollander,” someone laughs incredulously. Before he can really process what is happening, J.J. is shoving a phone in his face, the screen so close the picture that he is trying to show him is nothing but a blurb of a man and woman. “Look at this shit, can you believe it?” J.J. asks excitedly. “I don’t know what I’m looking at,” Shane cringes back, eyes hurting. “Rozanov is engaged.” And just like that, the world stops. Shane blinks, and then blinks again. Surely he misheard. _______________ Shane hears a rumor in the locker room that Ilya Rozanov is engaged. 13. This task of ‘shutting Shane’s brain off,’ aka stopping panic attacks, had become a sort of game to Ilya. His current list of approved methods were sex (obviously), hot/cold showers and sour candy. Reserved for particularly bad attacks was dunking Shane’s face in an ice bath, though this method was not preferred by either of them. The most efficient way (besides sex) is the “weighted blanket” method. OR: Shane spirals in a way-too-hot shower and Ilya pulls him out.

  14. In pro sports, getting injured is just a given. Especially when the playing field isn’t a field at all, but a slick shelf of ice on which twelve men strap blades to their feet and slap a solid disc of vulcanised rubber around with big-ass sticks. So yes, Shane is hurt. Not bad, but kind of bad. Like...in the usual kind of hockey way. It's nothing to panic about but it would be nice if Ilya texted him back with a little more concern about it. Right? OR Shane gets hurt and then overthinks about everything. Ilya is a menace.

Shane heard the blade coming down right by his ear. The schlick of it as it sliced through the ice, echoing in the arena, the place eerily silent in a way Shane had never witnessed before.

Shane tosses his own gloves to the ice and reaches forward, lacing their fingers together. “You took a bad hit,” he says, gritting his teeth against the fear clawing at his guts. “Flipped headfirst into the ice. Are you okay?” Ilya groans in answer and squeezes his hand, though Shane can't tell if he meant to do that or not. Suddenly, there are people all around them. Shane shifts protectively close before he realizes it’s the medical team. “Hollander, get back to your bench,” someone says, but there’s no way Shane’s going.
