His mother hums. “And you’re staying the whole five days?”

    “That was the plan. Why?”

“Food logistics. And there’s a chance we’ll have a guest, so, you know. Gotta stock up.”

“As if they could make a dent with a hockey player in the house,” Shane jokes, yawns again, and then lets himself be sent off to bed.

In hindsight, he should really have paid more attention to the carefully casual way his mother had said, there’s a chance we’ll have a guest.

Shane is looking forward to Christmas break: five days with no one except his parents. Unfortunately, his parents have picked up a stray… one that Shane is rather more familiar with than he’d like anyone else to know.

  3. "You will bend for me many times, I think, before this production is over." Shane means to say no. He means to tell Ilya Rozanov—arrogant Bolshoi principal dancer and professional pain in his ass—to fuck off and stop moving set pieces without permission. Instead, he ends up on his knees in a dressing room, which is definitely not how the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s stage manager is supposed to handle conflict resolution. Three weeks until opening night. One impossible rivalry. And absolutely no way this ends well. or: Ilya comes to Winnipeg for The Nutcracker. Shane tries very hard to hate him. The mind- blowing hate-sex doesn’t help.

  4. It happens in an instant.

Over Ilya’s shoulder, Shane sees the doctor and Wiebe give each other a look, and in a sudden bout of impatient anxiety, Shane ends up saying the words that come to ruin everything.

    “Don’t touch me.”

The effect is instantaneous. Ilya’s hands fly to his sides, and Shane gets a front row seat as Ilya’s heart breaks before his very eyes. Eyes dimming and lips trembling in slow, painful technicolor.

It causes Shane’s heart to break, too, and he vows, immediately, never to see such a look cross his husband’s face again.

OR Shane embarks on a mission to heal his husband’s heart, one PDA at a time.

Did the Harvard dorms completely shut down over the winter break? What about the dining hall? Shane supposed he didn’t really know. He’d never stuck around to find out, when he was younger.

    “Okay?”

Coach raised his eyebrows. “So, he’s staying with you.”

    Shane’s eyes went wide.

    “What?”

“Come on, Captain,” Wiebe looked down his nose at Shane. “Try not to look too thrilled.”

  6. Since rookie season, Shane had spent December 23rd flying home to Ottawa to be with his parents. He had been looking forward to the one weekend of the year when he could indulge on all the Christmas cookies he wanted. However, the East Coast weather, ever fickle, seemed to have other plans. Somewhere in the background, an announcement declared that everyone should check their emails to rebook flights. But in the forefront of Shane’s mind was a penthouse in Brookline, a boisterous Russian who had just beat him in a last-second goal attempt, and the present in his bag that Shane hadn’t had a chance to give him.

  15. [Takes place post-TLG. Spoilers ahead.] “I have bad feeling about this.” The two men looked up at the two-story suburban Ottawa house. Strings of multicoloured lights twirled around the squat, snow-covered cedar trees in the front yard, and a little cobblestone walkway curved up from the driveway toward the porch. Shane looked over his shoulder and grinned. “You’re scared of my parents now?” Ilya raised one dubious eyebrow. “Is not just your parents inside. Also there are aunts. Uncles.” He shuddered dramatically. “You should not have told me about Great Aunt Alice.” Shane laughed. “It’s fine. Just ignore everything she says, and the rest are all gonna love you.” He leaned up on his tiptoes and kissed Ilya’s rough-stubbled cheek. “Just like I do.” “Like you do?” Ilya wiggled his eyebrows up and down, and Shane saw the start of a mischievous grin twinkling in his eyes. “This will make this party much more interesting.”

  17. When Ilya agrees to accompany Shane on a weekend trip to his parents’ house Shane is overjoyed. It’s their first Christmas together, and Shane is determined to make it special. Ilya, on the other hand, is determined to defile Shane in his childhood bedroom. And anywhere else he can have him. “You can’t be serious.” Seeing Shane like this is probably Ilya’s favourite thing. Hollander is laid out beneath him, his face hot and flushed, his cock hard and pressed up against Ilya’s own as Ilya lays between his legs. Ilya can feel the heat of his body even through the layers of clothing between them- layers he would very much like to remove. But the sullen look on Shane’s face tells him this is not likely to be an easy task. “We’re in my parents’ house,” Shane huffs, squirming in a way that does nothing to deter Ilya’s intentions. They have been at Yuna and David’s home for only around thirty minutes now. After greeting Shane’s parents Ilya has followed Shane up to his bedroom under the guise of getting settled in. Well, it is not so much a guise on Shane’s part- after entering the room Shane really does start to unpack, taking one neatly folded item of clothing after another out of his suitcase and putting them away in equally neat drawers. There is really only so long Ilya can stand it before he is striding over to Shane, practically performing a full body tackle as he shoves Shane onto the bed and pins him down. Ilya smiles wickedly as he leans over Shane, admiring how the pink glow of Shane’s skin makes the freckles adorning his cheeks even more prominent. Shane’s wrists are pinned by each of Ilya’s large hands, the full weight of Ilya’s body pressing him into the mattress. Ilya knows that Shane could probably free himself if he really wanted to. The fact that he doesn’t try to escape, along with how fucking hard he is, tells Ilya that Shane’s protests are not entirely sincere. “What is problem?” Ilya says, feigning ignorance. “Your parents know we are together, I don’t think you will need to come out to them again.” “The problem, Ilya, is they’re fucking downstairs.” “That’s fine, soon we will be fucking upstairs.” “Oh god,” Shane exclaims, pulling a face and squirming some more. “You know I didn’t mean it like that.” Ilya’s grin only grows wider. “Seriously, Ilya- we can’t do this here. This is my childhood bedroom for fucks sake.” “Mm, I know. Is making me hot thinking about it. Hockey superstar Shane Hollander’s teenage bedroom, wow...” Ilya leans closer, pressing his mouth to the sensitive skin just below Shane’s ear. He kisses and then licks the spot, murmuring happily as Shane groans in response. “Ilya...” Shane hisses, sounding pained as well as desperately aroused. He squirms again, sending shivers running through Ilya’s body. There is nothing sweeter than hearing Shane say his name. Ilya continues to kiss and lick and bite at Shane’s neck and jawline to make him say it some more, before attempting to steal a kiss. “We can’t...” Shane murmurs, pulling away. His pupils are so dilated it’s like his eyes are pure black; dark, liquid pools of desire that Ilya cannot help but drown in. “We are here for whole weekend, Shane. I don’t think I can go so long without fucking you.” “You know we can’t do that, Ilya.” “So you’re not even going to kiss me?” Ilya asks, suddenly unable to tear his eyes away from Shane’s lips. The idea of not kissing him for two days is suddenly unbearable. “Oh, so that’s all you want- just a kiss?” Shane replies, clearly not believing a word of it. “Of course. Just one, simple, very innocent kiss.” “And you have to lie on top of me to do that?” “I find it helps, yes.” Shane smiles, and Ilya’s heart swells at the sight. It has only been a few months that they have been like this- able to enjoy each moment together freely, without either of them having to pretend this is less than it really is. In some ways it still feels completely novel and new, and Ilya can’t help but drink in every second, knowing this is what he wants for the rest of his life. Shane continues to regard Ilya fondly for some time. When he tries to move again Ilya lets him, loosening his hold on Shane’s wrists, enabling Shane to reach up to gently cup Ilya’s face before sliding his fingers into Ilya’s hair. “We have to behave...” Shane says, prompting Ilya to pull a face. Shane smiles wider, tugging lightly on Ilya’s hair as he adds: “But I promise if you’re good then I’ll make it up to you the next time we’re alone together.” “I am always good,” Ilya replies, resulting in a laugh from Shane. When Shane finally lifts his head to place a soft kiss to Ilya’s lips it is all that is needed to have Ilya nodding his agreement after they part, knowing he will do anything Shane asks. Of course, Ilya knows that part of the fun in agreeing to Shane’s rules is seeing just how far he can bend them... “You’re unbelievable...”

Boston’s last game before Christmas was in Montreal, so when Ilya Rozanov showed up at the back entrance to Shane’s apartment bundled up in a winter coat, scarf, and beanie with a wrapped package under his arm, Shane was only half surprised. “I could have been half way to Ottawa by now,” Shane said with a gentle smile as he took a step back, allowing Ilya to enter the stairwell. “And yet here you are,” Ilya said. “And yet here I am,” Shane replied softly. “Is that for me?” He nodded his head at the gift. “Maybe.” Ilya shrugged. “If you are good.” “Such an asshole.” “Mmm, maybe, but you are still here.” - - - - On December 23rd after a heated game against Montreal, Ilya shows up at Shane's house with a Christmas gift that will change the trajectory of their relationship, possibly forever.

  19. On christmas morning, Ilya finds himself awake before everyone else, restless under the weight of the holiday. As the day unfolds with Shane, their daughter, and a family built from choice rather than blood, christmas stops feeling like something borrowed, and starts to feel like his. Ilya had been awake since five in the morning, that wasn't anything unusual for him but in the past it had been for training or because of Shane's insane workout routine— and most recently, their daughter screaming at all hours of the morning. This morning he wasn't awake because their daughter had woken him up— miraculously, she was still asleep in her room, curled around the stuffed bear Yuna had given her last week, but because Ilya couldn’t stop thinking. Like his brain wouldn't shut off, and of course it was about something specific. Christmas. The word still felt strange on his tongue, like a borrowed thing he hadn’t quite earned yet despite all the holidays he'd spent with the Hollander family over the many years he and Shane had been together. He lay on his back staring at the ceiling, one arm thrown over his husbands side of the bed, listening to the steady sound of his breathing. Outside, the sky was still dark, snow falling heavily. Everything felt quiet in a way that made his chest ache. Ilya slipped out of bed carefully, like he was sneaking away from something that couldn't be, or shouldn't be disturbed. He pulled on a hoodie and padded down the hall, pausing outside their daughter’s room. He cracked the door open just enough to look inside. She was sprawled across her bed, dark curls sticking up in every direction, one sock kicked off in her sleep. Her nose crinkled as she breathed in and out. There were already too many toys in there with her. Ilya knew that. Shane had told him that many times. He had said, “she’s one, Ilya. She doesn’t need seventeen stuffed animals.” Ilya had nodded, agreeing with him, and then ordered five more. He closed the door softly, leaving her to sleep and went to the living room, where the christmas tree glowed faintly in the early morning light. The presents underneath it were.. excessive. Even by his standards. He crouched down and adjusted one of the bows, frowning at himself as he remembered dinner the previous night, he'd been fretting over the wrapping and Shane had told him it didn't matter. She wouldn't remember her very first christmas anyway. But it did matter. All of it mattered. Back in Russia, he of course did not celebrate christmas in the same way. No lights. No tree. No stupid matching pajamas that David made them wear. New Year’s Eve had been the big thing, and even that had been.. quiet. Heavy. Something to get through because the person who made it special in the first place was no longer with them, and Ilya was not allowed to talk about that. This was different, though. This was theirs. A day that he got to spend with the family he created, and loved more than anything. Shane shuffled in a few moments later, hair sticking up much like their daughters, eyes fighting to stay open, wrapped in one of Ilya’s hoodies. “You’re up early.” Shane whispered through a yawn, voice thick with sleep. Ilya startled, then relaxed. “Could not sleep.” Shane leaned against him, arms slipping around his waist, forehead pressed between Ilya’s shoulder blades. “You’re vibrating.” “Vibrating?" He repeated, his brows furrowing. “Mhm.” Shane whispered against his skin. “You’ve been restless since, like, December first.” Ilya turned, pulling Shane against his chest. “I just want it to be good.” Shane looked up at him then, really looked, his expression softening. “It will be.” “I want it to be perfect.” Shane didn’t hesitate to comfort his husband this time. Nodding against his chest. “Yeah. Me too.” Their daughter woke up an hour later, announcing it by babbling at the top of her little lungs. Shane laughed as Ilya bolted upright, nearly tripping over the dog toys scattered around the floor in his rush to get to her room first. She was wide awake, big brown eyes staring up at him, a big smile on her face as Ilya scooped her up into his arms. “Good morning, solnyshko.” he grinned, pressing a kiss to her messy head of dark curls. She crinkled her nose, reminding him of someone else he loved more than anything in the world. Shane leaned in the doorway, watching them with a smile that made Ilya feel almost naked. Like his husband could really see him, something that no one else had ever been able to do and even after all these years, it still made him a little nervous. Uncomfortable, maybe? "You ready?” He asked. Ilya swallowed, nodding. “Da.” They sat on the floor together in front of the christmas tree, their daughter between them, having more fun with the paper than the gifts that were inside, shrieking with delight every time they helped her rip it. Ilya watched her intently, like he was afraid she might disappear if he blinked for too long. “You went overboard.” Shane murmured under his breath, fond, as she opened her fourth present in a row. Ilya could tell he didn't mean it. He was just as happy sat watching her as he

  20. Shane loves Christmas. He always has. A quiet time surrounded by family, with good food and presents, and time to let his brain just sit. He can’t wait to bask in his parents' love and attention, being with people who he (mostly) doesn’t have to hide or perform around. Though he’d be lying if he said that his thoughts have been solely on them. Because every time he’s not busy, he finds his thoughts wandering to Ilya Rozanov. What is Rozanov doing? Does he even celebrate Christmas? Does he wish he could spend it back home in Russia? Does he have anyone to spend Christmas with? Would he want to spend it with Shane if he could? Fucking, of course. They would be fucking, because that’s what they do. Always. There is absolutely nothing else there. But still, in the quietest moments, he wonders… _____ Or, Christmas keeps finding Shane and Ilya at every stage of their lives— from rivals, to lovers, to husbands
