  1. Ilya Rozanov would do anything to stop his kids from crying. Apparently, that includes cutting off his own hair. Or, Shane and Ilya's toddler gets slime stuck in her hair. The attempted rescue goes badly, and Ilya tries to make her feel less alone by matching her botched haircut. Shane is not thrilled.

  2. He's in his bed in Montreal, tangled in sheets that are damp with sweat, his heart hammering so hard it hurts. The room is dark and quiet and wrong, because Ilya isn't here, Ilya is in Ottawa, two hours away, and Shane's hands are shaking as he grabs for his phone on the nightstand. His fingers fumble with the screen. It's 3:17 AM. He should... he shouldn't do this. Ilya has practice tomorrow. Today. In the morning. Shane knows this because they'd texted about it yesterday, before the Bears-Centaurs game, before Ilya had taken that nasty check in the second period that Shane had watched on his laptop with his stomach in knots, before Shane had gone to bed alone like he does most nights, before his subconscious decided to torture him with the worst thing it could conjure. He stares at Ilya's contact. The photo is from months ago, Ilya grinning at something off- camera, eyes bright, so impossibly alive that Shane's throat closes up. He needs to hear his voice. Just. Just to know he's okay. Just for a second. When Shane has a nightmare about Ilya getting injured, he phones his boyfriend. Ilya returns the call, and so much more.

  3. “Are you still cold, moya lazan'ya?” Ilya asks, gently touching his hand to Shane’s thigh to get his attention. “Your what?” He lifts his head from where he’d been resting it against the airplane window, blinking blearily. “Lasagna?” “Yes. Look at you, with all the, uh…” The English word he’s searching for eludes him, so he simply gestures at his husband, clad in a T-Shirt, a hoodie and two jackets, both his own and Ilya’s. The latter is slightly too big even on Shane’s muscular frame, and being wrapped up in it almost makes him look small. _____ While on the airplane on the way home after a series of games with the Ottawa team, Shane is hit hard by the flu. The fever makes him emotional, and Ilya has feelings about that. Incredibly soft feelings.

  4. They’re just outside the club when Shane’s legs suddenly feel like they're stuck in thick tar. He feels sluggish―slow and too heavy for his own body. And all of sudden, it’s all wrong.

He’s not drunk. He knows that now, unfortunately, which means Ilya is right: There was something in his drink.

  6. He reached into his pocket for his phone and fuck– he was still wearing Rozanov’s clothes. They smelt like him. He couldn’t go back inside now to get his own, that would make for even more embarrassment. I just need to get out of here, far away. He opened his phone and tried to call an Uber, but his vision was so blurry from unshed tears, he couldn't see a thing on the screen. What the fuck was he doing? Ilya is never going to talk to him again and he’s out here on the ground having a fucking panic attack. Or, what if when Shane leaves Ilya on the couch, he only makes it past the front door before breaking down?

  7. When Roz starts speaking, frantically letting out Russian words from his hospital bed, Troy jumps in fear. “Ty emu uzhe pozvonila? Gde mama?” While Troy might not know Russian, or any other Slavic language that might have offered him some sort of context, he understands the word for mother. His heart clenches in his chest. Calling for your mom, especially when you’re hurt and confused feels instinctive. Troy is pretty sure he’d do the same thing. But the thought of coming out of your dazed state while desperately wanting your mom, and the loss of your mom coming crashing down on you must be a different type of agony. Roz starts speaking again, Russian coming to him easier than English must. “Mama? Gde moya mama?”

  9. Ilya is recovering after the brain surgery but recovery rerely is a straight line. And Ilya, done with hospitals, is up to mischief. Fortunately, Shane is there to make sure Ilya stays alive. *** This is set between "Hold On (I Still Want You)" and "Come Back (I Still Need You)" and focuses on Ilya's recovery after the brain surgery he underwent. It can be read as stand-alone but I think it's probably best to read at least first part of my series to get some context!

  13. Ilya's hand continues its path up and down Shane's back, and Shane thinks again about how love is sometimes just this: a palm on the spine, moving in circles, waiting for you to come back to yourself. There is no promise of saving you—Ilya cannot save him, they both know this and are alright with it in their own ways—but there is a vow of staying, lingering in order to witness. Touching the bruise so that its pain triggers the memory that you are allowed to be touched. Outside, the snow continues its work of erasure. Inside, Shane's breathing begins to even out, every limb recalling how to be a man at rest rather than an animal fawning and freezing. The trembling subsides, wave by wave, as if Ilya's hand is smoothing it out of him. "Sleep, зайчик," Ilya says softly, his free hand coming to rest in Shane's hair. "I have you." This is not true, Shane thinks, and it is also the only true thing. ⋆ recovery, shane learns, is not a straight line. to begin to understand something, you must first name it.

  14. Shane groaned, eyes cracking open with great effort, the distant sound of barking getting closer and closer, and he couldn’t help but wince at the volume as it pierced right through him. “Anya.” He managed to get out, and the dog in question nudged at his head, another groan eliciting from Shane’s lips at the movement. He was struggling to understand what was happening, but everything was fuzzy and scrambled and he couldn't hold onto a single thought for long enough to string anything tangible together. “Ilya.” He exhaled as Anya nudged him again. “Get Ilya….Anya, find Ilya.” or Shane slips and falls on ice while out walking Anya, and Anya is just your everyday Lassie.

  16. “Shane was his constant. His safety net. Because he knew that no matter how unpredictable his life at home got, he would always have Shane, ready to comfort him, ready to be whatever it was that Ilya needed.” Or Ilya needs Shane after his father’s death but doesn’t want to be a burden. But it’s okay because Shane knows exactly what Ilya needs. Loosely based on the song “I don’t like darkness” by Chase Atlantic.

  18. Ilya Rozanov was bad at feelings—and speaking English. Shane Hollander made him feel things he didn’t know how to say. So Ilya said them in Russian instead. The problem was, Hollander didn’t understand a word of it. And Ilya couldn’t decide if that was a good thing… or not.

  19. Ilya’s Instagram feed has always been a love letter to Shane, since they became them, moments in time that will always lead to a memory for him. It’s the best Ilya can do, considering their circumstances, but it’s the one way he can tell the world (in secret, stolen moments, random things that only mean something to exactly two people) that he’s head- over-heels in love with Shane Hollander. The FanMail video comes out in March, and it’s like Ilya realizes he can be in love out loud, even during the soft moments. The world is not ready. AKA: Five times Ilya posts the small moments, and one time he loves out loud.

  20. “I can bring her in, yes. As many times as necessary. I am very responsible.” Shane gives him an odd look and double-checks his chart. “I will hold you to that, Mr Rozanov. It’s a commitment. She’ll be a handful.” Ilya doesn’t flinch. “I have hands.” // Shane thinks one of his clients is just very committed, and slightly hypochondriac, about the care of his dog. Ilya is running out of excuses to see the hot vet.
