Via Marc Desjardins When asked about support systems for Hollander following his trade to Ottawa, Pike appeared to begin saying "Shane's—" before abruptly stopping himself and substituting "Shane's rival, Rozanov," in reference to the well-documented on-ice rivalry between Hollander and Boston captain Ilya Rozanov. The 30-year-old defenseman then launched into what observers are calling an "increasingly frantic" explanation of the Hollander-Rozanov rivalry, complete with nervous laughter and visible perspiration. "I was going to say Rozanov," Pike insisted when pressed on the awkward pause. "Obviously. Since we were just playing Boston last week, and Shane always—he's very focused on beating Boston. Because of the rivalry. The hockey rivalry. That they have. In hockey." Where Hayden says something he didn't mean to, and chaos ensues.

Five times the Centaurs show up for Pride Night on the road, imperfect and unscripted. Plus one time they do it at home, deliberately and out loud.

Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2025-12-21
Ilya is sitting on the bench now, sweat dripping down his face, body cold, watching his team vie for the puck in front of him. The image of Shane’s inert body refuses to leave his mind. Even when he closes his eyes, it’s there. Nothing is working. He hasn’t scored. Because he can’t. Because all he can see is Shane. Curled up. Eyes closed. Looking small and vulnerable and—

“Watch yourself, Rozanov,” he says in Russian, voice low and dark, and oh, holy shit, Ilya should have known teaching Shane his native language would be the death of him.
“I would rather watch you.”
Shane moves off the stool he’s been sitting on with one fluid movement. “Not now.”
“Later then?”
Shane rolls his eyes. “Pervert.”
“Not what you said an hour ago.”
Ilya feels Shane’s foot bump into his, and their thighs brush just barely. But it’s still enough to make Ilya want to abandon all of this and drag Shane back upstairs. “Behave, Ilya,” he says, slipping back into Russian. “You know they can't know.” He turns. The look he throws him is a little too close not to affect him. “We both want it that way.”
Oh. Right. That.

Or Ilya and Shane attempt to hide their relationship at a charity gala. It goes about as well as one would expect.

There was no other way— Shane was determined that everything would be perfect and that things would just fall into place. Everything was already labeled, bottles were washed, clothes were washed and hung up in the closet, and he had even sorted them by size. It was safe to say, Shane had this under control. Well that was until he had realized he neglected one little thing— his own nest.

There’s no humor in Shane’s voice. It’s cold, hard, determined. “When we meet them on the ice next season, I want to fucking destroy them.”
After a moment, he feels Ilya nod thoughtfully behind him.
“Is good plan. Let’s fucking destroy them.”
The Montreal Voyageurs won't stop slinging mud at Shane in the press, so Shane and Ilya decide to get revenge the best way they know how.

Hi, this is Ilya. I will never listen to your voicemail.
Shane jolts like he’s been shot, a sharp breath bursting from the depths of his diaphragm. The comfort of hearing Ilya’s voice fizzles out with the knowledge that Ilya didn’t pick up. Logic says he’s still on the flight. But why would he—
Ilya knows how Shane is, how he gets. He wouldn’t send a bunch of ominous fucking messages and then drop off the face of the earth without letting Shane know he’s okay.
Except, he did. Which means—
The plane scene, reimagined. ft. Ilya's voicemail.

still the best (still an asshole) by Anonymous
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid

Four times Ilya Rozanov reminded everyone exactly who the fuck they were dealing with (spoiler: still an asshole, still elite, still not going anywhere), and one time he didn’t have to be anything except soft.
Or being out didn’t make him nicer. Being married didn’t make him softer. Being older didn’t make him weaker. And being a father? Well. That’t when things get complicated.
(He’s really good at that last part. Don’t tell anyone.)

Ilya died, yes, but then the doctors saved him. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the ambulance, three electric shocks, two emergency surgeries, twenty-six units of blood. Ilya died, but then he came back.

"You're playing on the same team as Hollander this year, right?" Svetlana asked, as if she didn't know that perfectly well already. She just needed to see what he'd say. She'd had her guesses for a while, and she wasn't letting the subject drop until she got her answers.
TV canon of the scene with an alternate ending. Ilya needs a hug is the number one tag for this show, isn't it?

It wasn't just "1221" by Anonymous
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2025-12-19
In Episode 2 of Heated Rivalry (2025) during the 2011 All-Star Game, Scott Hunter overhears Ilya Rozanov whisper “1221” to Shane Hollander when Ilya thinks he’s being so subtle no one would notice. In 2014 after Shane attempts Baby’s First Insult, Scott hits him where it hurts by suggesting he knows something.
But these geniuses were never really subtle. They weren’t subtle before that All-Star Game and they weren’t subtle after it. The show didn’t have time to show it, but Scott saw them being dumb and obvious way more than that one scene implied. Here are the deleted scenes.
