  3. “Shane,” Ilya whispers. “Yes?” “What is wrong?” “Nothing,” Shane says. “It’s great.” “Hollander. You look like you will throw up or cry into fire. Both will ruin mood.” --- Shane and Ilya have to leave the cottage eventually. Shane spirals about it. Ilya makes it better. Shane is trying very much to enjoy his last evening with Ilya at the cottage. He is trying so much that he feels queasy. All he can think about as Ilya strokes his back and kisses his hair while they sit by the fire, is less than fourteen hours now. Thirteen and a half. Thirteen and a quarter. He can’t bear thinking of Ilya leaving, but he also can’t not think about it for even a second. “Shane,” Ilya whispers. “Yes?” “What is wrong?” “Nothing,” Shane says. “It’s great.” “Hollander. You look like you will throw up or cry into fire. Both will ruin mood.” And Shane definitely can’t tell Ilya what’s actually wrong because then he won’t just have ruined what’s left of the mood, he’ll have completely destroyed it, and then Shane fucking up will cast a shadow over their entire time here and Ilya will always think that it wasn’t actually that good and maybe he won’t want to come back, ever, and - “Shane. You said to say what we really feel while we are here. Say what you need.” “Fuck me,” Shane says. “Make me stop thinking about tomorrow.” Ilya kisses him, softly. “Okay,” he says. “Would you like it if I take these dishes inside and clean up and you go to bed and get yourself ready for me?” A gasp escapes Shane’s mouth, he can’t help it. The thought of lying in his bed, opening himself up while Ilya is loading the dishwasher down the hall, has him half-hard already. “Yeah,” he breathes. “Yeah, I’d like that.” Ilya grins, and kisses him again. “Get started. I will see you in few minutes.” Only once he’s naked and fucking himself open with two fingers does Shane realise that he left the bedroom door wide open. It wasn’t on purpose, not really, except somehow it was. He can hear the clinks of cutlery and plates, the sliding of the dishwasher racks. He closes his eyes and pictures Ilya moving around the kitchen, unhurried, sure that Shane will be ready exactly when Ilya will want him. Shane still can hardly believe that Ilya is here, much less how settled he seems. But he won’t be settled here any more in thirteen hours. Shane forces his thoughts back to the present. Ilya will be with him soon. Shane wants to be ready, wants Ilya to be proud of him. Ilya will make him forget all about tomorrow. Just the anticipation is driving Shane wild. He wraps his free hand around his cock, stroking himself a couple of times, just to take the edge off a little. It doesn’t work, and he ends up moaning more loudly than he intended. He hears Ilya laugh from across the hallway. “Hollander, slow down. I still have to soak pans!” “Asshole,” Shane shouts. He opens his eyes again to glare at the open door. “Fucking hurry!” “No,” Ilya calls back to him. “Have to be thorough. Otherwise will be nightmare to clean. You like everything very clean, no?” Shane groans, half in frustration, half in arousal. But he can’t tell Ilya not to soak the pans. They can’t just leave them out on the counter all night without soaking them. That would be crazy. “Maybe I stay in kitchen for a while,” Ilya sing-songs. “Make cup of tea. Ah, here is camomile. Very healthy. You want tea?” “Fuck you, Rozanov!” Ilya laughs again. “So impatient, Hollander. I told you, slow down.” Shane curses some more but obeys, stops working himself open and just brushes his fingers over the most sensitive spots, sighing and enjoying the sensation, little sparks up his spine. And soon Ilya will be here. Soon Ilya will take Shane out of his head, and maybe they’ll say I love you again. Maybe Ilya will say it in Russian again, too. Ya tebya lyublyu. Shane looked it up the other day. He plans to practise saying it until he thinks it sounds okay, as close to Ilya’s pronunciation as he can manage. Then he’ll say it back to Ilya, so Ilya can hear that Shane loves him in his own language. He loses himself a little, floating for a couple of minutes, maybe longer. Eventually, he hears Ilya’s steps and comes out of it, starting to panic. He’s not ready yet. He got too distracted, too calm, enjoyed himself too much, stopped focusing on the objective. He was meant to get himself ready for Ilya to be able to fuck him straight away, and now he isn’t. Ilya looks stunning stepping into the room, framed by the light shining in through the doorway behind him. He’s already lost most of his clothes in the hallway by the look of things. He kneels on the bed, hungrily raking his eyes over Shane. “Sorry,” Shane whispers. “I was too slow, I’m not quite there yet -” “Hollander,” Ilya says firmly. “Is no hurry. I told you to slow down. You slowed down. You are perfect. Always, always good for me.” Shane has no idea why the words hit like they do, but fuck do they ever. He starts up properly again, arching his spine, pushing back against his own fingers. “Fucking gorgeous,” Ilya murmurs.

  8. punchline /ˈpʌn(t)ʃlʌɪn/ noun the final phrase or sentence of a joke or story, providing the humour or some other crucial element. - - - Ilya is— he’s allowed to love Shane out loud now. Because he does. He loves his husband. Adores him with every staccato beat of his heart so surely, so intently, that he’s positive that if he were to be hooked up to a polygraph machine and be asked if he loves Shane Hollander, the shape of his pulse as he answers “yes” would coincide with the rhythm of Shane’s bashful laughter anytime Ilya tells him that his freckles are stunning. - It’s funny, though. He can almost see Irina’s brand of humor slip through the cracks, like sunlight peeking past the gaps in their blackout curtains. He can almost hear her laugh. Gone as she is, she lingers and clings to him like cigarette smoke. Ilya, Shane, freckles, fate, and his mama. Alternatively titled: the stars outside of Moscow

  10. “Wow… who is that handsome guy? Another nurse?” Shane giggled. “Hi handsome!” Ilya had to try everything in his power not to lose it. Thank god Yuna was filming this. This moment had to be treasured one way or another, and he was already looking forward to the moment Shane would see this once the anesthesia wore off. “Not a nurse. Your husband of 3 years, Ilya.” “Husband??” Shane almost got up excitingly, which led to the nurse having to calm him down a bit. “Oh my god nurse, I hit the jackpot! Look how handsome my husband is!”. Or: Shane gets in an accident on the ice and goes under for surgery. Ilya is absolutely unprepared once he wakes up.

Shane’s autism makes love complicated—until Ilya makes it safe. Shane Hollander loves deeply—but quietly. Crowded rooms, public affection, and the constant noise of the world weigh on him in ways he struggles to explain, especially when standing beside someone as open and radiant as his husband. Shane’s autism shapes how he experiences love, touch, and connection, often leaving him trapped in his own head, convinced he isn’t enough. Ilya knows better. Through gentle control, unwavering patience, and fierce devotion, Ilya becomes Shane’s anchor—guiding him back into his body, his breath, and the safety of being loved exactly as he is. Across moments of vulnerability, intimacy, and raw honesty, Shane must learn to voice his fears and trust that his differences are not a burden, but something Ilya cherishes. This is a story about quiet love, consent spoken and unspoken, and two men choosing each other again and again—softly, fiercely, forever.

  14. Hollander’s face flashed in his mind, once again, as he took that glance backward that cost him the game, and almost his life. Before Marlowe had reached him, Hollander’s expression was pure triumph, a beaming smile directed towards Ilya that made his heart clench. This injury would likely prevent Hollander from playing the rest of the season, which would be devastating for both of them. Ilya could only hope that the rest of this season was all that Hollander would lose. Some outcomes could be much worse. Ilya couldn’t live in a world without Hollander. He wouldn’t. Ilya couldn’t even entertain that thought without getting nauseous. He took deep breaths in and out, leaning his head on the wall behind him. Slowly, his breathing began to even out as he drifted into a fitful sleep. OR Rozanov has glimpses of different lives with Hollander and realizes he would love Shane again and again.

“Hello. Ilya Rozanov here. Be fast, or I will drop call.” “Dyadya Ilya? It is you, isn’t it?” a scratchy, nasal voice said. She had the tiniest sliver of an accent, one Ilia wouldn’t have noticed, had it not mirrored his own, that he had spent a good decade trying to eradicate. --------------- Ilya had long since given up any hope of having a connection to his family back home in russia. His new family in canada, his marriage to Shane is enough. So he doesn't quite know what to feel when hope comes calling (in the form of his little niece, who is not quite so little anymore)

  19. “Hollander.” Shane’s head snaps back to his left. Ilya is much closer, pace slightly hurried. “Come here.” His voice sort of mimics the way one would talk to an animal paralyzed in fight-or-flight. Shane is not sure what to make of that. He slowly turns his head in the opposite direction, where his vision tunnels on the door for the stairwell. It almost glows like a special item in a video game, like a hint. Without giving himself time to doubt, he bolts. “Wha- Hollander, what the fuck!” Ilya shouts in audible disbelief, and Shane distinctly hears matching thuds of frantic footsteps behind him; Ilya is chasing after him. Shane runs faster, positively sprinting at this point. He’s the fastest skater in the NHL right now. He can do this. He flings the door open and bounds down the steps two at a time, hitting the walls with each turn of a corner. If he eats shit on this filthy floor and embarrasses himself in front of Ilya, he thinks, he’ll never let himself see the light of day ever again. or alternatively, in which Shane accidentally sends the text, and Ilya chases after him. Like, actually chases after him.

  20. What if Ilya convinced Shane not to leave after the tuna melt scene? * “I’m sorry.” Shane repeated, gathering the rest of his clothes before turning to walk out of the room. It was just a name. All he said was a name, but it was his name. Shane. And it sounded like honey dripping from Ilya’s tongue. But it was too much too soon. The realization hit him when he reached for the doorknob.
