“Do you think I could get into the dressing room hallway?” Ilya asked.
The photographer cocked their head, “Why?”
“I feel that doesn’t matter to you.”
Ilya could feel his stomach sinking. How was he supposed to get to Shane Hollander if he never stayed still? “Do you know when he will be done with everything?” When the photographer gave him a confused and irritated look, he reached for his wallet. “Better yet, do you have his phone number?”OR
The model AU inspired by all the stunning runway looks and the love that, in every universe, Ilya has for Shane Hollander.

“I am serious, though, you are safe, yes? Drunk at hotel, sitting on balcony, crying over Montreal’s terrible loss?”
It makes sense that Ilya’s mind would go there first. Shane said he was outside. Based on past behavior, the hotel balcony is probably the only place Ilya would expect him to be. He feels a little giddy that he gets to shock him for once.
“I’m at a club, actually.” He has to bite back a self-satisfied smile as he speaks, “With the team. Safe.”
It's quiet for a few moments before Ilya deadpans,
“Very funny joke.”

Ilya Rozanov is calling himself Shane Hollander's boyfriend.
Fuck.

—
It should have been a normal post-win night out. Instead, Ilya drinks too much, misses Shane too much, and accidentally tells Marleau everything.

What was he supposed to say? Yes, Hollander. I have a soulmate. All I know is that he has played hockey in Canada before. Oh, that could apply to the entire league? Oh, that could apply to you? Oh, you are now having a panic attack in my bed?
Yes. That would not have gone well.
(Or: Soulmate AU where the marks that appear on your body appear on theirs. Ilya finds out that Shane is his soulmate long before Shane does. They are idiots in love.)

“Hollander,” Rozanov breathes. His voice curls down the phone line like shavings of dark chocolate, and the phone pressed to Shane’s ear makes it sound as intimate as a whisper. Shane clears the crackles of sleep from his throat and props himself on one elbow. “Is everything okay?” he asks, taking a deep breath. They’ve never called each other. That’s not something they do. Ilya calls Shane after Boston wins the Stanley Cup.
