It’s dark, and Ilya’s not quite sure where he is. His entire body is numb. His shoes are soaking wet from trudging lazily through the snow. His nose is running, and his lips are chapped. Selfishly, he wishes Shane would fuss over him now. Pull him close, whisper “I forgive you” even though he shouldn’t, because Ilya would never change, because something inside him- in his family line, in his soul- was broken. Ilya wondered how long ago it had clicked- when Shane had realized that Ilya wormed his way into this country and tricked the Hollanders into caring for him, then returned the favor by botching their language and leaving a trail of mess in his wake. He still can't help but wonder if that will be part of his punishment- being doomed to miss him in death, too. or: Ilya’s mostly been able to cope with the fact that he’ll never be able to articulate himself fully in this country- but he’s also never been good at talking about feelings in the first place. "I'm tired" is the best he's got. It definitely doesn't capture what's going on in his head, and Shane can't read minds.

Shane smiles shakily and Ilya lets go, watching him walk up and slot in between Haas and Wyatt. Bood leans forward, "Hollander okay?" Ilya smiles a little at the concern in his friend's voice, "He will be fine. We will all be fine, because," Ilya raises his voice, carrying over the line of hockey players, "we are winning tonight!" The ground shakes with the force of the team hitting their sticks against the rubber floors. Outside, the announcer begins announcing the Centaurs, and within the span of a minute, all of their skates are hitting the ice. OR Shane and Ilya play the Stanley Cup finals. And then they celebrate. A lot.

It used to worry Shane. It was hard not to compare himself though. All of Ilya’s previous known partners (and there were many of them) were tall, razor thin and packing a stunning pair of perfectly round elevated breasts. Shane has none of these qualities. He’s not particularly tall - at least by the standards of ice hockey players - he’s stocky, and he is pretty positive that he does not possess a rack. And yet. Shane's hand glided over his hair and he felt for any bumps or dried blood but he felt nothing. The head pain was not due to any injury, so that was a relief. But it was still impeding his concentration on him trying to read his boring hockey book as his husband would say, but with it being the end of the season, Shane wanted to relax. He wanted to read his boring hockey book without a pesky headache. Or Shane tried to get rid of his headache and gives Ilya a heart attack instead.

Ilya Rozanov @rozan0v_off Almost fell asleep watching Shane Hollander play. Is the most depressing man I know. Even his chirps are polite. Maybe he wouldn’t be so boring if he weren’t best friends with his mom? What the hell, Rozanov? Shane grinds his teeth, desperate to keep his tears at bay. This is ridiculous. This isn’t even mean. Not really. Shane should consider himself lucky, really; Ilya is never usually this bad at trash-talking other players. So why is Shane even hurt? Perhaps it’s the fact that Ilya wrote something about him at all, and Shane only found out because Hayden sent him a screenshot of it. Or maybe it’s the fact that he used the word “boring”, which is an adjective that has been used to describe Shane so many times throughout his life that he’s come to loathe the very letters composing it. Or, Rozanov creates a fake Twitter account to defend Shane from his haters, and then overcorrects when some fangirls get suspicious about his identity.
