Parenthood: A Horror Story - Or Shane and Ilya babysit the Pike Children by AkselAksel
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2026-01-17
Shane discovers that surviving four kids is harder than any playoff game and that Ilya is unfairly good at it. Hayden, meanwhile, comes home to a peaceful house, sleeping children, and the unsettling realization that his long-time on-ice rival has somehow charmed his entire family. Ilya has won a Stanley Cup, League MVP, has stared down a full arena booing him, survived a thousand chirps, and has survived Shane’s endless complains about his occasional smoking habit. None of that prepared him for bedtime at the Pike house. Why did he agree to this again? Oh right he loves Shane. Shane, admittedly didn’t look as confident in the situation either and was filled with additional dread when he felt his phone buzz in his pocket. HAYDEN: Running late. Pls don’t let them eat anything that comes in a spray can. SHANE: ??? HAYDEN: Arthur found whipped cream once. Jackie says it was a dark time. Shane stares at the message until his brain stops buffering. Then he looks up and sees the four Pike children arranged across the living room like a staged photo shoot for “Parenthood: A Horror Story.” Ruby was is sitting cross-legged on the rug with a book open, reading with the calm confidence of someone who has already accepted that adults are unreliable. Jade is standing on an ottoman, wearing what appears to be a plastic tiara and a superhero cape at the same time at least he hopes that’s Jade, otherwise the twins had a personality swap. Amber is on the couch upside down, hair hanging toward the floor like a bat. Arthur is… not visible. Shane’s blood turns cold. “Where’s Arthur?” A small giggle comes from behind the curtains. Shane lunges and yanks them aside. Arthur is crouched there like a tiny gremlin, clutching Ilya’s phone, proudly smearing his fingerprints across the screen. “Buddy,” Shane says in a voice that is too calm, “why are you in the curtains?” Arthur grins and holds up the phone as if he’s accomplished something incredible. “Mine.” “No,” Shane says. “Absolutely not” A shadow falls over Shane’s shoulder. Ilya leans in, towering, relaxed, and infuriatingly amused. “He is practicing stealth,” he says, like Arthur is training for special ops and not currently attempting to drool on his smartphone. “He’s practicing identity theft,” Shane hisses, snatching the phone away trying to give it back. Arthur’s face collapses. His lip trembles. Shane freezes. “Oh no.” Arthur’s inhale is deep, dramatic, and unmistakably pre-scream. “Ilya,” Shane says, warningly, “do something.” Ilya looks down at Arthur with the solemn seriousness of a man defusing a bomb. Then he lowers himself into a crouch and says softly, “Arthur. You are brave soldier. But now you must surrender.” Arthur sniffles. Ilya puts a hand over his own chest. “I am also sad when phone is taken. Shane is just trying to help be but is misguided. We make treaty instead.” Arthur’s eyes widen, suspicious and hopeful. Ilya opens his other hand and reveals, somehow, a small, shiny sticker. A hockey sticker. It’s a Centaur wearing skates. Arthur stops crying mid-breath like someone hit pause. Shane stares. “Where did you get that.” Ilya shrugs. “I always have stickers.” “You just…carry stickers.” “For children,” Ilya says, like Shane is the dumbest person alive. “Also for Shane when he is being difficult.” “I am not a child.” Ilya leans closer, murmurs so only Shane can hear: “Debatable.” Arthur snatches the sticker with reverence and slaps it directly onto his own forehead. Ruby doesn’t even look up from her book. “Dad says not to put stickers on your face.” Arthur beams. “Face!” Amber pops upright from the couch like a sprung trap. “Can I have one?” Jade bounces. “Me too! Me too! I want sparkly!” Shane points at Ilya. “Why would you do this.” Ilya smiles, pleased. “They asked nicely.” They have not, Shane thinks. They have asked like a mob. How does Hayden manage so many of them? But then because the universe hates him, Amber climbs right over Shane and clings to Ilya’s arm like a koala. “Ilya,” she says, earnest and bold, “Uncle Shane says ‘no’ a lot.” Shane sputters. “I do not—”

“I can see your boner from here, you’re not hiding anything from me,” Shane huffed. “So… Now what?” “Now-,” Suddenly, the room spun as Ilya flipped Shane onto his stomach, which caused his back to arch at a drastic angle due to his legs being tied in such a way. He was on his knees with his cheek pressed into the pillows, and Shane let out a cross between a moan and a squeak of surprise when Ilya man-handled him, feeling his hands spreading his cheeks more than they already were given his extremely compromising position. “We enjoy ourselves. Or, I enjoy myself, and you lay there and take it like the good little slut I know you are.” ** OR: Ilya brings up the idea of bondage in the bedroom, and they both end up enjoying it much more than they initially imagined.

Shane grinned. “You are experiencing baby fever!” Ilya cocked his head to the side, and looked at his husband confused. Shane let out a snort. Just a little one. Ilya raised his eyebrows, and Shane began to laugh. “Baby fever? What is this? I have no fever,” Ilya pouted. He couldn’t understand why Shane was giggling like a teenager. “Oh,” Shane kept laughing, almost not being able to get the words out. “Shaneee,” Ilya whined ----- After watching Amber Pike, Ilya gets hit with the worst baby fever of his life. Now he just has to convince his husband to get him one.

“I’m sorry, what's going on?” Shane asked. “I am presenting,” Ilya said, reaching for the envelope in Shane’s hands. Shane pulled his arm back before Ilya could snatch it. “No,” Shane said with a laugh, “I’m pretty sure I am.” Ilya sighed in frustration, rolling his eyes as he pulled a folded sheet of paper from his pocket. “Look at the schedule!” He pointed dramatically. “Hollander–Rozanov!” “Uh, no,” Shane said, putting his finger to the page. “It says Hollander–Rozanov.” - Years after Vegas and after coming out, Shane and Ilya are asked to present at the NHL Awards again. "Is okay now?" Shane swallows and nods. "Yeah, I think. I'm probably worrying for nothing." Ilya nods too. "Yes. You are very good at that." Shane punches him in the shoulder lightly and they smile at each other. or, Shane and Ilya's first barbeque as a married couple playing on the same team. Shane is totally fine. After another last look into the mirror, Shane sighs and calls out to his husband. "Ilya! We have to leave in a few minutes. Are you still getting ready?" Anya comes into the room and Shane kneels down to pet her. "It'll be fine, right?" he whispers to her and she answers by licking his face. "Thanks girl" Shane winces and goes to wash his face at the sink. He dries his hands with a towel and wants to call out to Ilya again when the man in question appeares in the doorway, looking so handsome that Shane almost wants to suggest that they just stay home tonight. But he couldn't do that, because tonight was important. The first barbeque at Bood's house that they would be attending together. As a married couple and players on the same team. Shane totally wasn't freaking out or anything. "Finally" he says and Ilya frowns. "Relax, Hollander. If we leave now, we will be 15 minutes early still." "I just don't want to be late." "Is okay. I am late often. They don't care. Many people to care about even without us." "But I care, okay? So can we just leave now, please" Shane pleads and Ilya looks at him with that searching look in his eyes that tells Shane that Ilya won't let this go anytime soon. "Come here first" Ilya opens his arms and Shane sighs again, knowing that they won't leave before they've talked about this. He steps forward, right into Ilyas arms and hugs him tightly. Ilya's arms wrap around him and Shane's brain immediately quiets down a little bit. It's really unfair that Ilya has that affect on him. "I know you're nervous" Ilya says against his ear and Shane huffs. "No, listen. Is normal, to be nervous when meeting so many new people. But you're Shane fucking Hollander. Best player in the league. They are all so excited to meet you and get to know you and play with you on a team together. They have reason to be nervous because they're meeting you. I bet I will not be able to talk to you all night because they all want you to themselves. And I'll need to break up fights for who gets to talk to you next." Shane laughs, a little wetly and looks up into his husbands eyes. "You'd like that. But I doubt that's gonna happen. I just hope they like me." "Hey" Ilya grabs Shane's chin to make him look at him. "They will. I know it. And if they don't, it does not matter. I'm captain. I will make them run laps otherwise." Shane laughs again. "No you won't. Fuck off." "My own husband, not believing me. It hurts, Shane." He grabs his heart but then gets serious again. "Is okay now?" Shane swallows and nods. "Yeah, I think. I'm probably worrying for nothing." Ilya nods too. "Yes. You are very good at that." Shane punches him in the shoulder lightly and they smile at each other. "Thank you. I love you" Shane says and Ilya replies "I love you too. Now we have to go, or we will really be late." "Yeah okay" Shane breathes out one last time. "I'm ready." He takes Ilya's outstreched hand in his own and they leave for Bood's house. A few minutes later, Cassie opens the door with a smile, her arms full of stuff. "Hey you two! So glad you could make it! It's so nice to finally meet you Shane. Just go through the living room, they're all out back. Ilya, you know the way." With that, she leaves the door open for them to follow her and with a shared look, they walk inside. "Will be fine" Ilya mumbles and Shane tries to relax a little bit. "Hey guys, look who's here" Cassi says when they're standing in the garden and they're greeted by a lot of different voices. Bood steps forward from the grill. "Cap" he greets with a smile and a clap to Ilya's back. "And you brought Shane Hollander. It's nice to finally meet you. Officially" he held out his hand and Shane grabs it and is immediately pulled into a hug. "It's nice to meet you too. I'm excited to play with you all" Shane says and Bood's smile widened. "Are you kidding? We are excited to play with you. You're a legend, man. This season is going to be awesome." Someone shouts at him and Bood yells "Coming! Sorry guys, gotta get back to the grill. I have to keep my reputation as the best griller on the team, you know." He grins at Ilya and leaves. Shane lets out a breath as Ilya turns towards him. "Is fine, yes?"

“You're Shane Hollander. His boyfriend. You’re the reason he bailed on his team. Became a fucking pansy who-” Shane’s fist, which he hadn’t even realised he’d pulled back in preparation to strike, is captured in a firm grasp and gently lowered. He smells the familiar scent of Ilya’s cologne and then feels Ilya’s chin rest against his shoulder. -- Most people think that of the two of them, Ilya is the violent one. They would be wrong. “This is hard to talk about,” is all he says, though he knows it will amount to nothing. Shane’s fingertips are feather-soft on his chest. “You have to.” He has to, because Shane and Ilya have this thing, now, this agreement. Nothing is too hard to talk about. Nothing is off limits. They have to be bare, have to surrender the deepest crevice of their soul to one another. And Ilya, for whom this is easier said than done, whose chest carries a perpetual weight, an immovable mass, it’s all worth it – worth the relief smoothing over Shane’s features, the reassurance that he’s not worried anymore, that Ilya can give him this peace, albeit only a fragment of what Shane gives him by just being there when he wakes up. He would never say it, but he thinks that what he has to offer to Shane amounts to nothing – nothing compared to what Shane does, what Shane is, by simply nuzzling into his chest and sighing into his sleep, late at night when all Ilya can do is lay awake and just feel. “I need more,” Ilya says. “And is nothing you can do. I need you inside me, and it feels terrible.” He swallows, with great difficulty. God. “I need to– I need to eat you.” or, Ilya never knew love can hurt this good

The Centaurs think they’ve planned the perfect surprise for Ilya’s birthday. Instead, they’re the ones caught off guard when they discover Shane at their captain’s house. Between party prep, team antics, and one very suspicious “Jane”, Shane ends up hanging out with the team. - “They must really love each other,” Wyatt said. “What else?” Bood prompted Shane. “You hockey boys are a bunch of gossips.” Yuna laughed and drank from her wine. She checked on Shane, but he didn’t seem to mind the questions. “Don’t you want to know too, Yuna?” Bood asked. “Maybe. But she’s probably very private,” Yuna replied.

Devour was a good word for what Ilya wanted to do to Shane. Eat. Devour. Rolled off the tongue. But he hated that he could not think of an English word to convey the resonant, drilling consonants ringing in his brain when he kissed Shane with depth and hunger bordering on cannibalistic. The consonants in the Russian word that meant an act between consume and gobble up, with hard zh and rolling r sounds, were a crunch so delicious he could chew on it forever. Sometimes Shane felt like that. Like the crunchiest, most delicious hard candy in the mouth. God, the stupid fucking English. or Ilya thinks in English. With Russian subtitles.

'Shane nodded, listening to his boyfriend. He’d realized before, that whenever the other would talk about Russia, his accent would thicken. It would also be like that when Ilya was excited about something. His accent would be much more present again; endearing, really. He also sometimes mixed Russian words into his sentences, something he only ever seemed to do around Shane, though. “What are bliny?” Shane asked then. “Блины,” the other corrected.' --- Shane and Ilya have a late night talk, where Ilya talks about his grandparents for the very first time.
