After dealing with family trouble in Russia, Ilya brings home his brother’s baby. As Shane pulled into the garage, he saw Ilya’s car. His husband was back from Russia. Shane could barely contain his excitement as he ran to the front of the cottage. Ilya must have been watching out of the window for him because as soon as Shane got to the door, Ilya opened it. They forewent any kind of greeting and kissed each other passionately. They had missed each other and it showed in the way they grasped at each other’s clothes to pull themselves together. “I love you” Ilya said fiercely between kisses. “Why don’t we take this inside?” Shane suggested. He wanted to strip his husband naked and feel the heat of his body against his own. Ilya wanted that too but he had to restrain himself. “No” he breathed against Shane’s lips. His husband’s dark eyes stared into his own. “Why not?” Shane asked. “You will see” Ilya responded. He kissed Shane’s forehead before stepping back inside. He held the door open so Shane could walk past him. “Just don’t freak out” Ilya said in response to Shane’s confused look. “Why would I freak out?” Ilya led Shane to the living room where there was a baby girl sitting on the rug. She had a pacifier in her mouth and was clutching a cuddly giraffe. Shane was lost for words. “Ilya” he said “that’s a…baby” “Well done, Hollander” Ilya responded sarcastically. Shane rolled his eyes. “What is it…I mean she…doing here?” “She is my brother’s baby but he ran off with other woman and left her” “What about her mother?” “Drug dealer. Not suitable” “So you took her?” “There wasn’t anyone else” Shane knew Ilya didn’t have any other family that could help him. Ilya was putting on a brave face as per usual but Shane knew, beneath that stony stare, Ilya was panicking. He didn’t know how to care for a baby as much as Shane did. They weren’t ready for this kind of responsibility. That’s why they didn’t have children yet. “What are we going to do?” Ilya looked at Shane. “We?” He repeated. “Yes” Ilya shook his head. “No, I take care of baby. I booked the penthouse suite at hotel nearby” Ilya went over to the baby and Shane followed him. “Why would you do that?” He asked as he watched Ilya scoop the baby up. “Because this is my mess, Hollander. I will sort it” “We’re married. We’ll sort it together” “You want a baby here?” Ilya challenged more than asked. “Not exactly but she’s here now and…and…” “And what? She will keep you up at night and make a mess. You lose your shit if your clothes aren’t folded properly” “Don’t swear in front of her!” Shane warned. He took a step closer to Ilya. “This isn’t my ideal situation but you’re my husband and we deal with trouble together. Cancel your room at whatever hotel you booked. You’re staying at home” Ilya stared at Shane for a moment, trying to work out if he was serious. Apparently, he was. “Fine” Ilya agreed “take baby” “What?” Shane said as the baby was pressed against his chest. “Take baby so I can call hotel” Ilya explained. “Oh” Shane wrapped his arms around the baby and Ilya went to the hallway where he left his suitcase. He opened it and pulled out his phone. Meanwhile, Shane peered down at the baby

"That's— that's not what I'm insinuating, Ilya…" he started, sighing disappointingly down the line, making it obvious that he was pinching the bridge of his nose to calm down his nerves, "It's just—" "It's just what, lyubimiy?" Ilya interjected, and if Shane didn't know any better, he'd think that Ilya was being condescending, but he did know better, and that it was simply just the Russian in him. God, if Shane didn't know that he had regretted learning russian, he would've right now. "You can tell me if you don't want me to do it, no problem." Or… Ilya gets signed to campaign for Calvin Klein, and Shane hates it. Until he doesn’t.

Summer at the cottage was supposed to be relaxing. It turns into everything but—when Ilya drops “I could marry Svetlana” for an american visa like it’s a grocery list item. Shane’s face says over my dead body while Ilya, delighted, teases him for looking ready to commit “murder-suicide.” (He’s not wrong.) Shane Hollander has one big problem: he can’t let Ilya Rozanov marry anyone else. Not now. Not ever. So he does the unthinkable and proposes the most boring solution imaginable almost by accident. / Canon-Divergence /

On the screen, it was the playoff game between Boston and Metros. Everything looked normal, except for one thing. It was that game. It was the game when Shane’s body collided with Cliff Marlow. The replay of the impact echoed through the speakers, too loud in the quiet cottage. The next footage came in slow motion. OR - their kids stumble upon the clip of the game when Shane got injured. It's the first time Ilya sees the footage. Shane helps Ilya work through the emotions.

“Although I wouldn't change it. I love cooking for him. And he loves eating it, yes Shane?" Shane didn't quite register the question. He was still somewhat stuck at the sentence about his diet. His eyes were clouded and unfocused, looking straight ahead in the direction of the camera but not on it, rather over it. "So who is the cook in your relationship?" "Usually me," Ilya chuckled, answering Harris's question. He looked at his husband, before looking back at the camera, "Shane is on this performative diet, so he can't eat normal food. He always drinks this disgusting shake in the morning. He swears, he likes it, but I can see his handsome face scrunching up every time, he drinks it, trying to fight the urge to throw up. It's also a pain in the ass, trying to find a recipe, he can have. Although I wouldn't change it. I love cooking for him. And he loves eating it, yes Shane?" Shane didn't quite register the question. He was still somewhat stuck at the sentence about his diet. His eyes were clouded and unfocused, looking straight ahead in the direction of the camera but not on it, rather over it. Ilya and him were doing a video with Harris, as some kind of promotion of their team. Apparently their fans were eager to hear more about their marriage, which didn't sit quite right with Shane and his privacy. Shane wasn't someone, who shared things about his personal life to just anyone. His instagram had a few posts only and they were all some kinds of ads, sponsorships and game related content. It was rare to see anything remotely personal on there, which was the exact opposite to his partner's account. Ilya's instagram was filled with random pictures. Anya, the cottage, things Shane liked, their wedding... he posted just about everything, he saw. If Shane showed even a little hint of interest in something as simple as a bird, Ilya would take a picture of it and post it. The man was the same with his tattoos too and his 'stupid wolf-bird' tattoo was a great example of this. That's why Shane was uncomfortable with this interview right from the beginning. And he thought, he was dealing with it well, until this question was asked. Who is the cook in your relationship? Shane did cook sometimes, but not very often compared to his husband. It was Ilya's hobby to cook, especially if he could do it with Yuna, Shane's mom. Ilya always had to prepare special meals for Shane, because he was on a diet. A performative diet. Ilya had to adapt, because Shane was being difficult. It came to a point, where Shane wasn't sure anymore, if the diet was actually good for him and helping him, or it was just the feeling of discipline and control, that the man enjoyed and cherished so much. It was something stable in his life. Ever since the secret about their relationship was out of the bag, nothing seemed to be constant in Shane's life. He switched teams, because his team wasn't accepting him anymore. The team he gave everything to. The team, he carried, to winning three Stanley cups. The team that celebrated every win with him. It changed, after Shane came out to them. Most of them were supportive, but Shane wasn't blind. He could see some of those faces looking at him with disgust. So different to their happy and excited expression. After his relationship was out, even the supportive teammates were angry at him. All except Hayden and J.J., because apparently, "we can acccept you being gay. What we cannot accept, is your relationship with ILYA ROZANOV. A person who is supposed to be your rival." Truth was, Ilya was never Shane's rival. The media made it up, because it was convenient for them. Shane used to wish, him and Ilya were rivals. He used to think, it'd make everything easier. They were seventeen, when the entire mess started. It was supposed to be a one time thing happening out of curiosity and the need to do something, that wasn't expected of them. However after a few years of occasional hook ups, Shane realized, he was in too deep. The curiosity changed into love and Shane found himself yearning for Ilya anytime, they were away from each other. It felt, like Ilya was the only person, who actually knew him. Listened to him. He had to thank his past self for actually admitting and acknowledging his feelings for once and inviting Ilya to the cottage. He wouldn't have his precious husband otherwise. Another thing that seemed to change all the time was people's perception and opinion on them, as if it mattered. But it did. At least to Shane... Before the secret was revealed, the only thing the media could talk about, was how well Shane played in his games. Now they talked about everything. Analyzing every single thing and shoving their nose everywhere. Shane Hollander was seen with Rose Landry, is he cheating on his husband? Shane Hollander wasn't at the present in the game against Montreal today, is he sick or just jealous? Shane was still not able to deal with this. At least not completely. Even before their relationship was exposed to the entire world, Shane already struggled with people's opinions on him and what could happen, if he came out publicly. He was terrified of being judged, as it was something, he was very familiar with in his childhood. Fear of messing up, fear of being different... fear of not being good enough. He literally had a panic attack, when his parents found out. Imagine, how he reacted, when the entire world knew. Before starting hockey, he wasn't very popular among others. He wasn't white. He wasn't neurotypical. He wasn't straight. It may've been the twenty first century, but that didn't mean, people were any kinder. People used to bully him a lot, when he was little. For missing social cues, not understanding stuff others did... a lot of things. "Do you agree with what Ilya said, Shane?" He was pulled out of his thoughts by Harris asking him, if his husband was right. He raised his head and was immediately hit with a bright light and the camera pointed right at his face. "Y-yeah sure, I do," he stammered through his sentence, managing a small, slightly awkward smile. He never really knew, how he should act in front of a camera, when he wasn't playing

Cheering for Dada by moshpitghost

After Ilya retires he becomes a wag, taking his and Shane’s daughter to games to cheer for him. Based on a tweet I saw abt Ilya being a wag It’s only been a few months since Ilya Rozanov retired from the Ottawa Centaurs, he still had good hockey left in him, don’t get him wrong, but his love for hockey was never stronger than the love for his daughter—their daughter. Little Irina Hollander-Rozanov, the only person Shane and Ilya loved more than each other, had come into the world a year and a half ago. Shane had discussed her future in great lengths with Ilya when they found out she’d arrive in nine short months and what that meant for their careers. Ilya was grateful he had the opportunity to play alongside some of the best hockey players in the world over his long career, he wanted to keep doing that, but the second that little hand wrapped around his finger he made up his mind. He was going to be the best father he could be, no matter how absolutely terrified he’d been. Irina had been born during the season, after her birth Ilya got his affairs in order and attended a press conference where he announced he’d be retiring at the end of the season. He prefaced that he was getting older, it was getting harder to recover. That was no lie, being in his thirties was making it harder to bounce back after games. But his ultimate reason for retiring: he had a daughter and he absolutely needed to be present for her life. Shane watched his retirement announcement from the sidelines, holding their daughter in the media room of the Centaurs arena watching his husband answer too many questions. His many words carefully arranged with his warm voice cradling every syllable, he noticed a few tears had fallen from his eyes. They achieved their dreams. Together. And now they get to do the best thing they’ve ever done. Raise a child together. Shane was named captain of the Centaurs after Ilya retired. He hadn’t been a captain in years but this season he’d lead this team and he’d make damn sure to make Ilya proud. It was their home opener of the season, the arena was packed to the brim with fans—most wearing Hollander or Rozanov jerseys. They’d all come to watch the team Ilya spent so long leading take on their new leader and hopefully remain the same beloved team. Ilya was still getting ready at home, of course he’d attend this game. He wouldn’t miss it for the world. Even if Shane had told him over and over, “You don’t have to come.” It would take every supernatural force in the world to keep Ilya away from that arena today. He pulled on a jersey, a Hollander one, something he never thought he’d be doing. “Papa!” Ilya turned around to see little Irina being held by Yuna Hollander, they wouldn’t miss this game either. “Lisichka, look at you.” He smiled at her little jersey. It was of course a Hollander one except the name on the back had been replaced with ‘Dada’. “Dada is going to love this.” He took her in his arms kissing her cheeks making her giggle. They made it to the arena just before warm up’s. Ilya had been walking around with Irina on his hip showing her around the arena, he ran into Harris who’d been running back and forth. “Ilya! And baby!” Harris smiled. “The guys are still in the locker room if you want to pop in and say hi.” “I think yes,” Ilya looked at Irina. “What you think, solnyshko?” She just grabbed at his face and giggled. “Let’s go see dada.” “Dada!” She yelled. “Yes, dada!” Ilya smiled. Ilya followed Harris into the locker room. The team had been sitting around suiting up for the game, some stretching, and others taking their time getting their mind right. “We have visitors!” Harris announced. Ilya saw the guys look up and immediately start pushing each other out of the way to get to Irina. They all fought for her attention, prompting her to see who’s name she’d say first. Her attention quickly went from the group to Shane pushing his teammates aside. “Dada!” She smiled wide. “Baby!” Shane took her in his arms, placing huge kisses on her cheeks. “Wow! Look at this. Wearing my jersey! Much better than papa’s, huh.” Shane felt like he would explode from the cuteness. “What about your husband?” Ilya crossed his arms. Shane smiled at Ilya, he wrapped one arm around Ilya’s waist planting a quick kiss on him that earned lots of chirping from his teammates. “You look great too.” Shane didn’t know that this is where his life would lead after all those years of being so scared of the world knowing he loved Ilya Rozanov, but it was so worth it now. “That’s better,” Ilya ran a hand down Shane’s chest resting on the new ‘C’ that graced his chest. “Captain.” He smiled at Shane, he saw a blush creep up his neck. “Don’t ruin my team.” “My team now and how can I lose when I have the best good luck charms?” Shane was filled with pure happiness, nothing could be better than his little family here to cheer him on. He couldn’t remember why he told Ilya not to come in the first place, he would’ve missed out on this.

“Uh, Ilya? More vodka?” David offers tentatively. “Sure, okay. Maybe one more,” Ilya says. He’s not entirely sure what's considered an acceptable drink limit for the occasion of ‘Surprise! Your son is gay and I’ve been fucking him in secret under the nose of the entire MLH and Scott Hunter in the hotel room next door, and I’m in love with him, actually,’ but given the look on his face, well - David might need the second drink more than Ilya does at this present moment.

An alternate ending to episode two in which Shane actually sends the "we didn't even kiss" text. Or, Shane Hollander is down so bad for Ilya Rozanov and is big mad about it. Bye, Hollander. That was it, after everything. After good vodka, after the best view in the city, after quite literally opening himself up to him. And really, by now, he should be used to it. That this is how they operate, that it’s how they must operate. He should be used to the quick roll over in bed and the slam of the invisible door between them. No use crying over spilled milk. But the hole in Shane’s chest isn’t something to be sopped up with a paper towel. It’s alright, kid, they told him in the ballroom, you’ll get the cup next year. You should still eat, they told him in the dining room. Get big, strong, come back swinging next year. The gasp after downing three shots in a row next to Scott fucking Hunter misinterpreted as fervent excitement for the night when it was really just to remind him he’s still alive. Yes, he’d have liked to have won the cup. Of course he’d have liked to win MVP. But there’s something to be said about the way the gold had complimented Ilya’s hair when he held it up and the way his accent had thickened in excitement in the interview. None of that matters now in the dim lighting of the hotel hallway. He walks with a purpose towards the elevators, but not because he wants to. He’d have stood in front of Ilya’s door, jacket draped over his arm, bow tie hanging around his neck, looking for all the world like a scorned lover. But this reality doesn’t allow for that. This reality is going back to his room, too cold because he left the air conditioning running the whole time, and ordering greasy room service food to try to stop the hangover before it happens. This reality is his nose crinkling as he waits for the elevator because he can smell cigarette smoke on his clothes, in his hair, and feel the budding bruises on his hips in the shape of Ilya’s fingers. This reality is cold and cruel, Shane’s body nothing but a canvas for Ilya to paint on and discard for the evening. The elevator is too warm and smells of citrus cleaner, and the doors take too long to shut, and the whole time, Shane stares at the hallway in front of those doors and wonders if he’s making a mistake, if he’s been making mistakes. There’s a clear line in the sand; oh, yes, Ilya’s been very good at remaining on his side of it. But Shane has never much liked the beach, though he used to cheer when he was young and a wave would erase the pictures he drew in the sand with his father. The doors slide shut with a ding, and he presses his floor number. Then another, and another. Four floors are lit up before he stops what he’s doing. His hand trembles slightly as he pulls out his phone. Party invites, goodnights from his parents, an Amazon order notification. He swipes them all away and opens his conversation with Ilya. Lily. The name mocks him in cold, blue light that intensifies the headache beginning to make his eyes throb. The doors slide open behind him, making him jump, but no one joins. He has three more ghost stops before his actual floor. < Jane [draft]: We didn’t even kiss His thumb hovers over the send button. The elevator wobbles beneath his feet. He wonders what it would feel like to crash to the bottom floor in a matter of seconds, untethered. The doors open and close again. The chime is distractingly pleasant, momentarily snapping him out of his melodrama. He edits the message. First deletes ‘even,’ thinks it makes him sound desperate. But he is, isn’t he? That’s where the sick feeling low in his gut is coming from? Because his body knows that after something like that, you’re meant to fall asleep in the still warm bed, sit in a bath, have a drawn out glass of wine. Something, anything other than shoving shaking legs back into suit pants and buttoning up a shirt with fingers sore from being clenched around the sheets. < Jane: We didn’t even kiss “Fuck,” he mumbles, squeezing his eyes shut. He shoves his phone back into his pocket as the elevator doors finally open to reveal the identical hallway of his floor. He’s only two steps onto the carpet when his phone buzzes. It’s embarrassing how quickly it’s back in his hand. > Lily: Why type for so long for small message? Shane stops, standing stupidly in the elevator’s alcove. The implications of the message alone make his head spin. Someone’s TV in their room is much too loud nearby. The ice machine down the hall hums. < Jane: Are you serious?

“Three weeks ago, I sent a message that says you need to wait to come,” he says, leaning down to nip at Shane’s earlobe, kiss his chin and neck. “I knew you would do it, because you are perfect. I did not doubt this for a second.” Ilya props himself up on his knees and one arm above Shane so that he can worm his hand into the waistband of Shane’s boxers. Shane squirms slightly, reaching up to try and capture Ilya’s lips with his. “So now I will give you a reward. You will come until you feel like maybe you will never come again, and when we are done, I will wash you and tuck you into bed.” OR Ilya tells Shane not to come until they see each other again in three weeks.
