All in all, it could have been worse.
It’s not like you can measure the full length of Shane’s dick, or see the exact moment that Ilya swallows down the mess of spit and his own cum from Shane’s mouth after he sucked the life out of him.
It’s just, well, everything else.

“I just wish Lily was in Montreal. Sucks that the ‘Lily secret weapon’ is only in Boston.”
Cliff pauses then. Hand stuck midair as he was reaching for his beer. “Lily’s in Boston?”
“Yeah man. Sorry to burst your bubble, not all Boston girls are loyal to the Bears.”
Cliff turns to Hayden then. Cocking his head a little to the side, his eyes are searching Hayden’s face as if he was trying to read his mind. He opens his mouth to speak. He closes it. He shakes his head a little. And opens his mouth again,
“That’s so fucking weird dude. Roz’s ‘Jane’ is in Montreal. What are the odds those fuckers have girls in each other city’s. That would be next level rivalry, man."

They talked about it, long and often and then - it’s decided and Shane feels oddly at peace. He feels peaceful as he laces up his skates and he feels peaceful standing across Ilya on the ice, his smile softer than usual. “You still want to do it after the game?” “Yes” He wins the face off. They talked about it, long and often and then - it’s decided and Shane feels oddly at peace. He feels peaceful as he laces up his skates and he feels peaceful standing across Ilya on the ice, his smile softer than usual. “You still want to do it after the game?” “Yes” He wins the face off. The press conference after is the moment. They made Shane and Ilya sit next to each other, and although he had expected it, he’s still relieved. “Hollander - this was your 100th game playing against your rival, Rozanov - how are you feeling about this?” a reporter asks, and Shane smiles. “Did I ever tell you guys about the first time I met Ilya?” he asks, purposefully using his first name, “I was 17. We were standing outside a gym and I went up to introduce myself.” “You told me I couldn’t smoke there” Ilya interjects, and the crowd of reporters laughs. “I remember being impressed by him” Shane smiles, “And looking forward to the next meeting.” “What do you remember about that first meeting, Rozanov?” another reporter asks. “His freckles” he says truthfully, and Shane blushes - the crowd falls silent, a few confusing whispers going through the room. “A few weeks ago, Ilya’s plane had to make an emergency landing” Shane says, “And ever since I’ve thought about that first meeting a lot - and all the times we’ve met after.” “Did Hollander reach out after the emergency landing?” a woman in the front row asks, and Ilya places his hand on Shane’s thigh, not that they can see. “Of course he did” Ilya sighs, “I gave him quite a scare.” “The second time I met Ilya” Shane says, “Now that’s a better story.” “What happened the second time you met?” a reporter shouts from the back, it’s clear that this press conference is not going how anyone expected - they probably should’ve prepared better. “I asked what his hotel room number was” Ilya says, and Shane can’t help but laugh. “So you’ve been friends since the beginning?” someone asks, and Shane laughs even harder. He doesn’t answer the questions. “So since that moment - all those years ago - after every game we would meet up” Shane says, “To be together - and then I got scared for a moment” “That’s when he dated Rose Landry” Ilya explains, enjoying the confused looks of the reporters and then spotting Shane’s parents in the back of the room. He smiles, waving at them - half the room turns around to watch Shane Hollander’s parents wave back at Ilya Rozanov. “Luckily he got his head out of his ass” Ilya says, Shane gives him a smile. “You’re such an asshole” he shakes his head, there’s a fondness in his words. “I did not” Ilya says, “But then something amazing happened. Scott Hunter kissed his boyfriend on live TV and suddenly it all didn’t seem so scary anymore.” “Are you trying to tell us you’re gay?” Someone on the left asks. “I am bisexual” Ilya says, he doesn’t speak for Shane - Shane has been out for a while, and he’s never denied any of the rumors. Usually going for a My personal life is not the topic of conversation. Ilya looks at Shane, and he nods - encouraging him to say the one thing they did agree on. “A few months ago, I got home” Ilya says, “After winning a bunch of games, and my entire living room was covered in electric candlelights - and then the love of my life sat down on one knee and asked me to marry him.” “And he said yes” Shane smiles. “I guess the point here is” Ilya says, “Is that Hollander and Rozanov might be rivals on the ice, but off the ice they’ve been so much more.” “And this summer” Shane takes a deep breath, “I will marry Ilya Rozanov and we will return after the summer and continue playing the best hockey we can.” “I know people will probably have a lot to say about it, and have a lot of opinions” Ilya says, “But honestly they can fuck off. They don’t know shit and we don’t really need their opinion on us. Our personal life has never affected our game - we just decided that we no longer want to hide it.” “Are you telling us that you two - ice hockey rivals - are actually lovers” “I hate that word” Shane says, and Ilya laughs, “But yes, I guess we are.” “Our agent will be available for questions or interview requests, but we will probably decline most” Ilya says, “We both have two weeks off and we are planning to just spend it together, because after another year of videocalls and finding time to spent together when our schedules line up, well - I missed my fiance”

“We had a visitor waiting when we got back to the house tonight.” Yuna finally spoke. “It was, of course, alarming to find a stranger in our driveway, a car we didn’t recognize, a person we didn’t recognize.” “Okay.” Ilya intently listened, nodding at everything. “She explained that she had found me through the foundation, and wanted to reach out to me before she did anything else.” Her hands reassuringly squeezed around Ilya’s ones, eyes never leaving his even for a second. With a deep breath in, she closed her eyes. “She told us her name is Irina. Irina Sergeevna Rozanova.” OR Irina Rozanova survives her suicide attempt but goes into hiding. Only after Grigori dies, she feels safe enough to find her son. OR Irina lives

He goes to the bed. Hollander comes to him, presses his face to Ilya's groin without being asked. His eyes are closed. He's breathing on the hot line of Ilya's dick, like this is the only place he wants to be. Fuck. Fuck. Ilya blindly reaches for his glass. His fingers, cool and wet. He nudges at the corner of Hollander’s mouth, and Hollander tilts his face toward him, opens up. Lets Ilya rub vodka into the warm hollow of his tongue.

Ilya couldn’t get enough. He was addicted to the sounds Shane made. He was hooked on his husband’s groans, moans, and whimpers; along with every variation of his name. He had never really thought much about how his name sounded before Shane, but now all he found himself able to think about is how Shane’s lips look wrapping around the consonants that spell it out, the breathy intonation behind every vowel. He’s intoxicated by the sounds he can feel reverberate through his chest and against his lips when they’re pressed close together, Shane demanding pleasure with the movement of his hips or surrendering to Ilya by falling into him, letting himself be manhandled and directed with Ilya claiming his lips as if he were a man starved. Not a day passed that Ilya did not think of the noises Shane made, or how he could get them to make more of them.

Shane has a surprise for Ilya. Shane and Ilya hadn’t bothered closing the blinds when they’d finished fucking the previous night. They’d been nearly asleep, a sweaty entanglement of limbs and hair and sheets and muffled moans, when Shane had remembered that he had a surprise for Ilya, one that necessitated setting an alarm and getting up early. He’d only told Ilya about the surprise part before they’d fallen asleep, and now that the first light of the day began to filter through the leafy canopy outside, Shane knew he wasn’t going to fall back asleep. As quietly as he could, he reached for his phone and turned off the alarm he’d set. Beside him, Ilya twitched in his sleep, his lashes fluttering delicately against his face. Shane wanted to reach out and stroke his face, and he wanted to watch Ilya sleep forever. He wanted to hold Ilya and be held by Ilya. Ilya inhaled sharply, suddenly awake beside Shane now. “Good morning,” Ilya said, stretching his arms above his head and yawning. His t-shirt rode up, exposing the taut skin of his belly, and Shane considered abandoning his plan entirely to spend the morning in bed. “Surprise.” “Surprise?” Shane said. “You said there was surprise,” Ilya said. “For me.” “There is,” Shane said. “But you are not naked and there is no breakfast in bed,” Ilya said, pursing his lips into a pout. “So how can there be surprise?” “There are lots of kinds of surprises,” Shane said, to which Ilya looked doubtful. “Canadians are too boring for real surprises,” he said finally, wrapping Shane in a hug and rolling over onto him. Ilya’s weight pressed the air out of Shane’s lungs momentarily, leaving him with the feeling of having been suspended in space. “This is an exciting Canadian surprise,” Shane said, pushing Ilya off of him. “We have to go now, or we’ll be too late.” “The surprise can’t wait two minutes for me to suck your dick?” Ilya said. He flashed a smile at Shane. “My dick will be here when we get back,” Shane said. “And you can have it for longer than two minutes.” “One minute is maybe actually all I need,” Ilya said. “Fuck you,” Shane said, swatting Ilya’s elbow as he pushed the blankets off of them. “I know you want me to fuck you,” Ilya said. “Fuck off.” Shane swung his legs out of bed, reaching for a pair of shorts on the floor with his feet. He stepped into the shorts—Ilya’s, it appeared—and pressed his face against the glass of the window. The sky was turning a golden yellow, last night’s spiderwebs heavy with dew as a new day began. They needed to get moving. “I know you like it,” Ilya said, which wasn’t wrong, though Shane was unwilling to give him the satisfaction of knowing this. “I’d like it more if you got dressed and met me outside,” Shane said. He shuffled into a shirt—his own, this time—he found on the floor and went to the back door, where he’d stashed a small bag with a blanket and an apple for each of them last night. He was lacing up his sneakers when Ilya appeared, wearing a Team Canada shirt from the World Juniors the year before they’d met. It was an old shirt from the back of Shane’s closet, bought back before he had filled out the musculature of his frame, and the fabric was tight against Ilya’s body. The entire scene made the blood in Shane’s ears pound, forcing him to once again consider abandoning his plan so Ilya could fuck him face-first into the sofa all morning. Ilya took an apple from Shane and bit off a chunk. “Was that surprise?” Ilya said. “After I cook you tuna melt, you finally make me breakfast in return? Raw apple?” “Not the surprise,” Shane said. “Not even close. And I literally cooked for you last night.” He motioned for Ilya to follow him out the back door, where they passed the ashen remains of last night’s fire. The blackened coals were still damp from the water they’d used to extinguish the flames. At the end of the patio, they caught the deer path that hugged the shoreline of the lake. Shane reached for Ilya’s hand and held it tightly, even though the trail was really only wide enough for them to walk single file and the brush was summer-dense. He kept turning around and smiling at Ilya, thrilled that they could act like this outside of the confines of a hotel room or a locked door, even though more than once Shane was convinced he’d gotten lost. With most of his mind focused on Ilya, these woods where he’d spent so much time suddenly seemed unfamiliar—larger and denser than he’d noticed. Shane prided himself on his observation skills. He made sure to tell his parents as often as he could that he was grateful for his mom for introducing him to hockey and grateful for his dad for introducing him to birdwatching. Hockey had been the first love of his life, but birding afforded him access to a supernatural calm that anchored him through the ups and downs of each season—the hockey season, the year’s seasons. Everyone who wanted to play on the big stage had to learn how to face the pressures of the league, and Shane had never told any of the guys where his poise came from. His ability to stand up tall in the face of blaring noise and flashing lights, his presence of mind to follow the puck up and down the ice—these were honed just as much by the hours he and his mom spent at the rink as by the hours he and his dad had spent together in the woods around their cottage while he was growing up.
