“Hollander? You are still here?” Rozanov called, breaking the TV static silence filling Shane’s head. He blinked. “Uh. Yeah, just leaving,” he answered, surprised by how steady his voice sounded. Good, that was good. He knew he couldn’t show Rozanov any weakness if he wanted to keep coming back. But did he want to come back if it made him feel like this? “Door is too heavy? Or I fuck you too good, you cannot move legs,” came Rozanov’s taunting response. Shane could practically see the tilted smirk on his face, cigarette smoke wafting around his freshly-showered curls. “Fuck off, Rozanov,” Shane muttered. _____________________ Or, I wrote something to add to the pile of subdrop!Shane in Vegas fics because legally by law I had to

“You’re sick,” says Shane, albeit shakily because he isn’t sure about this. He isn’t sure about them, or what they are. He doesn’t know if he’s allowed to care or worry because he doesn’t know what to call them. There is no routine or rules. All he knows is he probably shouldn’t be calling the captain of another team, especially not in the locker room. He shuts his locker and grabs his bag. “You are obvious. Did you call me to say obvious things, like sky is blue? Or Montreal sucks. Or that you cry when you come?” It sounds like he’s smiling. Shane’s stomach swoops, tripping over itself in a swell of affection. He rubs his hand over his face, feeling disoriented by the flood of conflicting emotions. “Fuck you,” Shane snaps, habitually. or: ilya always texts shane before they play against each other, but today he doesn’t. shane, and all spectating eyes, can tell someone is off with boston’s captain.

“Why are you out here alone?” Ilya asks. “Who left you here?” Hesitantly, Shane’s eyes cast up at the apartment building. Ilya follows his gaze, confused. “I’m sorry,” Shane says softly, “I went home with someone.” Ilya’s head snaps in his direction. “What?” -an episode 4 au where shane goes home with the bartender instead of rose, and it goes very, very poorly-

Shane takes a rough check during a game. Ilya takes care of him when they get home. Shane can't help his response when Ilya keeps calling him "baby." Set after The Long Game, but can be read if you just accept Shane and Ilya BOTH play for Ottawa now and also have a dog. Title from George Michael's "Father Figure," because I am both a cliche and a bad person.

Anesthesia is a Blessing by cyrenae
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2026-01-03
“Wow… who is that handsome guy? Another nurse?” Shane giggled. “Hi handsome!” Ilya had to try everything in his power not to lose it. Thank god Yuna was filming this. This moment had to be treasured one way or another, and he was already looking forward to the moment Shane would see this once the anesthesia wore off. “Not a nurse. Your husband of 3 years, Ilya.” “Husband??” Shane almost got up excitingly, which led to the nurse having to calm him down a bit. “Oh my god nurse, I hit the jackpot! Look how handsome my husband is!”. Or: Shane gets in an accident on the ice and goes under for surgery. Ilya is absolutely unprepared once he wakes up.

Shane’s autism makes love complicated—until Ilya makes it safe. Shane Hollander loves deeply—but quietly. Crowded rooms, public affection, and the constant noise of the world weigh on him in ways he struggles to explain, especially when standing beside someone as open and radiant as his husband. Shane’s autism shapes how he experiences love, touch, and connection, often leaving him trapped in his own head, convinced he isn’t enough. Ilya knows better. Through gentle control, unwavering patience, and fierce devotion, Ilya becomes Shane’s anchor—guiding him back into his body, his breath, and the safety of being loved exactly as he is. Across moments of vulnerability, intimacy, and raw honesty, Shane must learn to voice his fears and trust that his differences are not a burden, but something Ilya cherishes. This is a story about quiet love, consent spoken and unspoken, and two men choosing each other again and again—softly, fiercely, forever.

Okay, fuck, he really needs to get in contact with someone who knows something about whether or not his boyfriend is still breathing right now because he can't keep thinking like this. He squeezes his eyes shut, forcing the tears to go away and he calls his mom back, holding the phone up to his ear, hoping that she, somehow, has some kind of update for him; he knows that Ilya made Yuna her emergency contact a while ago, just in case, so if anybody is going to be able to tell him anything it’s going to be her. Unless she hasn’t heard any news, unless he’s dead at the crash site and they can’t identify his body, unless they- ”He’s okay,” His mom says the moment she answers the phone, barely even letting it ring one time and, yeah, she really does know her son. She knows that that had to be the very first thing out of her mouth before anything, otherwise Shane would spiral. (As if he hasn’t already been spiraling.) * OR, the plane from The Long Game actually crashes, Ilya gets injured, Shane rents a car to drive down to him, and he takes care of him.

Shane is still learning that he doesn't have to be perfect in his own relationship. Ilya is still learning the rules of Shane's bad days. But ten years of rivalry are no match for Shane’s tears; the second he starts to cry, Ilya folds like a house of cards. Or: Shane tries to starve himself as punishment for losing, Ilya tries to feed him, and it turns into a very soft night of pampering because Ilya is legally incapable of staying angry at a crying Shane.

One goddamn day alone and he was at the edge of the abyss. Everything hurt. Or: Ilya navigates the expanse of his mental illness over the course of one bad day.
