Ilya walks over, leaning against the doorway to watch as Shane looks in between the coach cushions, “Pike must have it.” “What?” Shane takes the moment to stop what he’s doing and look up, his eyebrows furrowing together in that way that Ilya finds adorable, “Why would Hayden have it?” “Because some people never change,” Ilya answers easily. “What? He hasn’t taken anything before, he-” Ilya shakes his head, standing fully straight again and walking over to behind the couch, leaning slightly forward so that he can look into Shane’s eyes when he says, “That is not true. The puck. 2017. He took it mid-game- mid-play! An attempt to sabotage and-” Shane does a mixture of scoffing and laughing, picking up a pillow and throwing it at him, it bounces off of him easily, “Oh my god, Ilya, that was twenty five years ago! Let it go.” * OR, during one fateful game in 2017, the puck randomly disappears from the ice, Shane and Ilya accuse each other until it's found in Hayden's pant leg. Ilya does not let this go.

    Okay, fuck, he really needs to get in contact with someone who knows something about whether or not his boyfriend is still breathing right now because he can't keep thinking like this. He squeezes his eyes shut, forcing the tears to go away and he calls his mom back, holding the phone up to his ear, hoping that she, somehow, has some kind of update for him; he knows that Ilya made Yuna her emergency contact a while ago, just in case, so if anybody is going to be able to tell him anything it’s going to be her. Unless she hasn’t heard any news, unless he’s dead at the crash site and they can’t identify his body, unless they- ”He’s okay,” His mom says the moment she answers the phone, barely even letting it ring one time and, yeah, she really does know her son. She knows that that had to be the very first thing out of her mouth before anything, otherwise Shane would spiral. (As if he hasn’t already been spiraling.) * OR, the plane from The Long Game actually crashes, Ilya gets injured, Shane rents a car to drive down to him, and he takes care of him.

    “Fuck it,” He mutters in Russian before just pressing his thumb down onto the phone next to Hollander’s contact. Ilya puts it onto speaker, listening to just up to the first half of the second ring before pressing the big red button, not letting it go on any longer. Fuck. He drops his phone and presses the palms of both of his hands to his eyes, trying to stabilize himself. Ring. His heart practically jumps out of his chest when he hears the sound coming from his phone. He looks down at where it’s sitting on the bed, the screen reads “Jane." Fuck. Out of panic, Ilya declines the call but quickly makes his way to his messages app, finding Hollander’s contact and typing out a quick few messages back to back. Ilya: did not mean to call. Ilya: was accident Ilya: no need for call back Ilya takes a deep breath and sets his phone back down only to be met with an immediate response from Hollander. * OR, 5 times Ilya had a nightmare & called Shane + the 1 time Shane was there to comfort him in person
