Did you figure anything out? Shane writes, and flips the page around for Ilya to read it.
Wont like the answer, Ilya’s written, in his quick hand.
So he doesn’t have to take the pen back, Shane just shrugs. What?
Ilya sits down at the desk for a steady surface to explain.
3 things
1 its curse. if true we can break it
2 its spell. if true we can break it
3 we are soulmates. if true we are fucked“No,” Shane mutters, before he can stop himself. Immediately, he slams a hand over his mouth.
or: Ilya and Shane are soulmates, and their bond prevents them from both talking and being apart. Unfortunately, the only thing that’ll make the pain stop is confessing the one thing they can say: that they’re in love.

Happy Birthday, Ilya! by Anonymous
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid

The Centaurs think they’ve planned the perfect surprise for Ilya’s birthday. Instead, they’re the ones caught off guard when they discover Shane at their captain’s house. Between party prep, team antics, and one very suspicious “Jane”, Shane ends up hanging out with the team. - “They must really love each other,” Wyatt said. “What else?” Bood prompted Shane. “You hockey boys are a bunch of gossips.” Yuna laughed and drank from her wine. She checked on Shane, but he didn’t seem to mind the questions. “Don’t you want to know too, Yuna?” Bood asked. “Maybe. But she’s probably very private,” Yuna replied.

Freckles. From cheek to cheek, right over the bridge of a very tiny button nose. He knows these freckles. Knows them better than he knows the backs of his own hands, probably. Which, really, combined with the basket and the blanket and the fact that this happens at least once a season to someone in the league, Ilya’s heart races, then settles as he holds the baby close. “Well, hello there, my little one.” AKA wish baby fic

Ilya moves closer, inside Shane’s space. It’s not a big kitchen. Shane sat on this floor in diapers. He made protein shakes before practice on this counter, the one Ilya is backing him up into, pretty much every week of his teen years. He signed his first brand deal at the dining table. This brief, affectionate kiss felt more important than all of that, though. moments at the cottage.

"No. I'm not sick," Ilya grumbled. Immediately after, he coughed so hard that Shane was a little worried that Ilya would cough up his guts. "You have a fever and you sound like you're dying. You're sick," Shane said as he handed the glass of water and ibuprofen to Ilya, who was glaring at him. or, Ilya is sick and Shane looks after him

The cottage faced east, like a church. When the sun set it did not flood the living room like it did in the morning, but peaked through the trees and the back windows to leave irregular shapes of light on the floor, the furniture, and Shane Hollander’s thighs. Ilya observed the scene from the kitchen; his boyfriend, his boyfriend, lying naked on the couch, flat on his stomach, eyes closed, half asleep and a little flushed mark between his shoulder blades where Ilya had kissed him so hard it broke tiny blood vessels under his skin. The evening after Ilya meets Shane's parents for the first time. A little ditty I wrote to satisfy my ravenous need for an episode seven. Title from Hot & Heavy by Lucy Dacus

Based very loosely on events from The Long Game that my brain wanted to put into the first book, somewhere between Shane’s injury, and before Scott Hunter wins the cup - for maximum angst, obviously.
What if Ilya’s plane had actually crashed? And what if it had happened before he and Shane had the chance to confess their love and know what it was like to be together.
Or
A fic so I could write a really needy Shane who can't hide his feelings anymore, and an Ilya who is faced with the undeniable truth that someone cares for him.

“I can’t just make some announcement, ‘hey everyone, Ilya babysat my kids, he’s a great guy!’” Hayden threw his hands up in the air. “I mean, actually you can, sweetie, but I was thinking something more gradual.” ... ... ... The one where Hayden is actually the hero of the story, because Jackie talks him into rehabilitating Ilya’s asshole image by publicly defending him, several times. The reactions to the FanMail are different this time, because of Hayden.

During the finalist game, Shane changes up his jersey. - "You're not actually going to wear that, right?" Hayden asked, pinching the bridge of his nose. "It's my last name," Shane responded, brows furrowed. "I can wear the fucking jersey." Ilya noticed. He wasn't fucking dumb, and he was married to him, to Shane. Of course, he was going to notice if something was up with him. He'd be dumb, and a fucking asshole at that if he didn't know something was freaking out Shane, his husband of three years. He saw the fidgeting, the way he was walking around the house, going in and out of rooms, pacing. And in the way he looked at Ilya, before shifting his gaze, tearing his eyes away. Something was wrong. When Shane stepped into the room again, Ilya didn’t hesitate. He reached for him, his hand sliding easily around his waist, pulling him in. He buried his face in his hair and leaned into him like it was second nature. He smelled like her shampoo, soft, familiar, and like home. “My love, what is wrong?” he asked, his voice muffled against his head. “Nothing,” he said quickly, too quickly. Ilya pulled back just enough to look at him. Shane's jaw was tight, his eyes flicking off to the side instead of meeting his. He frowned, brows knitting together in that way he knew all too well. “You are lying,” he said—not accusing, just certain. Shane caught his bottom lip between his teeth, "Just.. you're certain you'll be coming to the game tonight, right?" Ilya smiled. So that was it. "Yes, любовь, god, I told you million times that I am going with your mom and dad. It is the finalist game, Shane. I will watch you win." He blushed a little at that, "We don't know if Montreal will win, since they-" "Shhh." Ilya pressed a finger to his lips, lifting another hand toward his chin, lifting it till their eyes met. He spoke in Russian, slowly, enunciating each word so Shane could understand. "I will watch and you will win. Then we celebrate at home with your mom and dad. Then they will leave, and I will reward you, okay?" Shane blushed harder, pink decorating his face. "Okay." ◙▒◙ ♫♩♬ The locker room was long and narrow, lined with rows of dented metal lockers that rattled softly every time one was opened or shut. The air carried a mix of faint soap, sweat, and deodorant. Benches ran down the center, their wooden slats smoothed from years of use, creaking when someone sat down too quickly. Fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, casting a pale glow that made everything look a little washed out. Somewhere in the background, a shower dripped steadily, echoing against the tiled walls, while voices bounced around the room, laughing, complaining, calling out names, filling the space with an easy, familiar chaos. Shane stood at his own locker, staring at his own jersey. Heat rushed to his face before he could stop it, a slow, creeping warmth that settled in his cheeks and refused to leave. He wondered how Ilya was going to react, what he was going to say when he walked out onto the ice. Someone clapped a hand on his shoulder, "Captain, we go on in five. Get dressed already!" Shane and Hayden looked at each other before both of their eyes trailed down to the jersey clasped in his hand. "Oh my fucking god.." Shane tensed up, "What?" "You're not actually going to wear that, right?" He asked, pinching the bridge of his nose. "It's my last name," Shane responded, brows furrowed. "I can wear the fucking jersey." He smiled before continuing, "I'll actually only be responding to the team when they call me by my actual last name." JJ appeared next, laying both arms on Shane and Hayden's shoulders. "Coach will kill if you guys do not come in three mi—fucking!" He yelled, before pointing, jabbing his finger onto the jersey, over the white lettering, "What the—what the fuck!?" Hayden looked back at JJ, pulling at his hair, "And we have to call him that for the whole fucking game!" Shane just laughed, "Yeah, you do." ◙▒◙ ♫♩♬ The hockey arena was cold in a way that seeped through clothes and settled into the bones, the sharp scent of ice and metal hanging in the air. The rink stretched wide and bright under the harsh overhead lights, the surface smooth and freshly cut, marked by bold red and blue lines that stood out against the white. The boards were scuffed and scarred from years of impact, plexiglass rising above them, smudged with fingerprints and streaks from flying pucks. The sound of skates slicing into the ice echoed sharply, every stop and turn ringing out like a snap of thunder. The audience filled the stands in thick, restless rows, bundled in jerseys, scarves, and winter coats. Some leaned forward eagerly, elbows on their knees, while others stood to shout, clap, or pound on the glass. Cheers rolled through the arena in waves, faces blurred together in a sea of excitement and anticipation, eyes glued to the ice.

Shane swipes out of a few notifications from the ESPN app, all clickbait about Scott Hunter’s speech at the NHL awards. He can’t deal with those right now, his brain is not online. Then he sees the Snapchat notification, from Ilya. Shane puts his phone down and blinks a few times. He picks it up and checks the display again. The notification is still there. He hasn’t gotten a Snap from Ilya since the end of the season back in April, after they crashed out of the Frozen Four without making it to the final. Shane saw him a few times after that, at team meetings and at the annual sports awards dinner, but he’s pretty sure Ilya left campus before the end of the semester. Shane wasn’t expecting anything from him until the fall, when he’s back at school. He rubs his eyes and rolls onto his side, swiping the app open. It’s a video. or, the boys are in college, featuring self discovery, russian diminutives, and (to ilya's chagrin) the scott hunter of it all.
