It’s not fair. Shane doesn’t want to be with Rose and Ilya doesn’t want to marry Svetlana, but it would be so much fucking easier if they did want to, so much less complicated and actually accepted both legally and by the public. Sure, gay marriage is now legal in both Canada and the States but that’s only the tip of their problem-iceberg. It sucks and it’s stupid and it’s not fair and Shane feels childish whining and drinking about it but it’s not. Fucking. Fair.

Ilya was all too glad to assume his Ottawan identity since it brought him closer to Shane and is a simpler pathway to citizenship, but he still loved to complain about slowly becoming a 'boring Canadian' like Shane. He insists they do at least one ‘exciting’ thing every week although he keeps changing his definition of what counts as ‘exciting enough.’ Sometimes (more often than not, really) it’s something sexual. Hence the whole ‘Shane wearing a vibrating plug that Ilya controls while at a public function’ thing. AKA the hottest thing to happen in Shane's entire fucking life.
