Under the guidance of his doctor and mostly out of desperation due to his last annual heat being severe enough to nearly land him in the hospital, Shane Hollander knows he needs to take a heat partner for the first time if he doesn’t want to end up in a cycle facility.
With his options between hiring a comfort alpha or asking one Ilya Rozanov for help, the choice is clear to Shane. Even if it feels like he’s losing every shred of his dignity to ask his - rival? fuckbuddy? - whatever Rozanov is to help him through his heat, Rozanov is the only alpha he trusts enough to take care of him.
Rozanov is due for his own rut and is more than happy to finally, finally have heat sex with Hollander. Which is why he says yes with no hesitation. No other reason, of course.
Now they both just need to survive the week with their hearts intact, which is something far easier said than done.- Language:

“And the both of you just assumed that, what? Jackie and I would just play along? Did either of us even factor into this stupid thing, outside of making us cum?” Shane asks, crossing his arms. He looks annoyed, one of Ilya's favorite emotions to see painted across his face. “Or was this all about your giant fucking ego?”
Ilya smirks, and Shane groans, throwing a pillow at his face. “Don't even fucking start.”
“Me?” Ilya says, buzzed and happy, thrilled to be irritating Shane as always. “Ego is not the only thing giant about me.”

They’d considered it—Shane being gay. It’d been an option. But Ilya Rozanov and the way Shane looks at him like he’s the love of his life has blindsided them. Blindsided both of them, and there’s almost nothing Yuna likes less than being blindsided.
She’s not mad, David wants to say. We’re so proud of you. We’re so happy for you. We just didn’t know.
Somehow we missed it, you falling in love.
or, what David Hollander and Ilya Rozanov talk about while Shane and Yuna are outside in episode six.

why did you invite me to your wedding by Anonymous
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2025-12-28
“Why are you calling me, Hollander?” Ilya asks more harshly than he means to. But he’s tired, and impatient, and strung out on a mixture of emotions and longing for the voice on the other end of the phone. “If nothing is wrong, why are you calling?”
“Will you come?” Shane asks, and Ilya’s heart sinks before he can even say the rest of it. He shouldn’t have asked. He should have just let Shane ramble. “To…to the wedding?”
The lump in his throat feels insurmountable. But he manages to say, “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
Shane doesn’t acknowledge it. “I invited alllll these people, but the only one I actually care if they come or not is you.” He stops and giggles. “Isn’t that weird?”
“Yes,” Ilya replies, because it is. You shouldn’t want your years-long situationship at your wedding. He doesn’t want the drunken musings of Shane Hollander to give him hope.
_________
Or Shane gets engaged. Ilya gets a phone call. Everything breaks. But sometimes breaking is what finally makes room for the truth.

It started out as something small, just an idea after reading a bedtime story about some bears making a lemonade stand. Sofia was absolutely enthralled with the idea. It was all their four year old could talk about. She probably yapped about it in her sleep to be honest it was just something she wanted to do and the idea to make a stand and put it at the rink during the week long camp to raise money for the foundation was too cute to say no to. “Well, if it’s not too much trouble,” Shane begins, offering his cell phone to one of Santa’s helpers who remains on standby. “Can I—can we get a couple of photos with you?” “Oh, but of course,” Santa cheers happily, clasping both gloved hands together as Shane moves to sit on his left thigh. “I would be honoured to snap a photo with the Shane Hollander.” Ilya, on the other hand, nearly goes into cardiac arrest. It's days after Christmas and Santa Claus is still working dutifully at the mall. There's just one problem, though: Ilya Rozanov is fully convinced that Santa Claus wants his man. It’s been a little over five months since Shane and Ilya have been official, and it’s almost inconceivable how... easy it has been for them. Opposites attract. Soulmates. Ilya has always believed those two sentiments were rather cliché, terribly intangible things, pathetic worldviews that took shape entirely from skewed perceptions and damn-near daunting desperation; but now that he’s living it—now that he’s nothing more than a walking testimony, it would be foolish of him to deny the harsh truths that manage to dismantle the solidity of his nervous system every day. Truthfully, it can be described as a puzzle piece that fits perfectly—two kindred souls that were fated to meet, destined to be in each other’s lives, their union that was seemingly written among the stars above. And here Ilya’s kindred soul stands before him—a bashful smile tugs at Shane’s lips as he raises a hand to press a wrinkle from the lapel, a palm smoothing over the material before he adjusts the article of clothing that hugs his body just right. But there’s just one thing that Ilya cannot ignore. He feels the warmth against his palm and cocks his head to the side, his lips pressing into a thin line. “I thought you said you hired a stylist, Hollander?” The implication cuts through the air like a knife, the sharpened edge of it aimed straight for Shane’s jugular— —but it all comes from a place of love, of course. There’s something about the fashion choices themselves (yes, plural) that Ilya cannot get behind. Shane slowly spins, as if he’s giving Ilya a chance to get a good fucking look at him, as if he’s allowing Ilya to recognise his greatness and to take back what he said. Come on, look at me! Shane’s eyes seem to say, glinting with offence that Ilya refuses to take seriously. Why would I need my damn stylist? “Uh? I did?” Shane huffs, throwing both hands up in mild exasperation. “They’re—I gave them two weeks off for—for obvious reasons. It’s the holiday season, and I don’t have anything important going on. Why?” ‘Why, he asks. Ilya closes his eyes. Opens them. Then closes them again. This is going to be a long day. “Two weeks off, huh?” Ilya sighs, nursing his cup of hot chocolate. “Of course you did.” Shane raises an eyebrow. “What? You don’t like it?” The outfit in question... well. Ilya glances at the baby blue wide-leg slacks that Shane somehow deemed appropriate for the occasion and frowns visibly, grunting with a shake of his head. He lifts his gaze to the white dress shirt that’s been buttoned all the way to the top, the crocheted, dark grey scarf around his neck and the beige blazer that, arguably, fits him well—but that’s about it. The colour of the material leaves much to be desired. As does everything else. “Ah, don’t worry, Shane,” is what Ilya settles on. “It is endearing, rather than. Stylish. Or interesting.” Shane appears to be mildly horrified. “Endearing.” “Yes, endearing,” Ilya affirms, leaning to the side to place his cup on the surface of the end table. “You look like a twelve-year-old going to a uh—a school dance or something. Trying to impress friends and all that. Or perhaps... trying to impress a crush. So, yes—I think it’s endearing.” Shane frowns. “Rozanov.” “Ilya,” he corrects him firmly, knowing full well that Shane has a tendency of calling him by his last name when he has decided that he’s annoyed with him. Ilya swallows around the lump in his throat, watching as Shane swiftly swaps his horrid fashion choices with his sponsored Lululemon set that does very little to combat the harsh wintry chill on the outside. “Where are you going?” “Where do you think?” Shane snaps, grabbing his wallet on the countertop. “I’m going to the mall.” “The mall?” Ilya asks, puzzled. He takes a step closer and shoves both hands in the pockets of his joggers. “It is colder than Grandfather Frost’s ass crack outside. Why are you going to the mall?” Shane slowly turns to look at him. “What do you mean by why? You just insulted the clothes I was planning on wearing to dinner with my parents tomorrow,” Shane speaks through gritted teeth, gesturing to the clothes that have been tossed carelessly on the cushion of the sectional. He couldn’t even be bothered to fold them—that’s how Ilya knows he’s pissed off. “I need something else to wear, obviously.” The room falls silent.

A hit during a game knocks Shane's suppressant patch free, and Ilya escorts him off the ice, secret relationship be damned.
---
"…Shane Hollander appears to have just broken through his suppressant patch, or possibly that hit knocked it off. Folks, you won't believe it, but Hollander may have just gone into acute heat on the ice. Every player in the rink has frozen, but this could turn ugly quickly. He's gone down at center ice and he's not moving—"
"There are a lot of alphas and three other omegas on these two teams, and if the reaction of the crowd is anything to go by, half the stadium is getting a lungful of Hollander's pheromones right now."

“Board games,” Ilya said, kneeing them higher up his chest. Shane stared at him. “You travel with those?” he asked, trying to go for scathing. It never quite got there. He didn’t have Ilya’s skill. Ilya smiled wide and shark-like. “No,” he said. “I got them from Emily. Mrs. Lansow.” Shane felt even more baffled. “The owner of the hotel,” Ilya said. “I know,” Shane said. He just couldn’t imagine Ilya interacting with that sweet woman. Or her asking him to call her by her first name. “Why? I mean, why did you get them?” “You have better things to do?” Ilya asked. “I have a phone. And a laptop. And there’s a television,” Shane said. Ilya squinted dismissively. “Screen is bad. Melts your brain.” “You sound like my mom,” Shane said, a little softer than he intended and smiling reluctantly. Ilya tilted his head. “This does it for you?” Shane and Ilya learn what it's like spending time together with their clothes still on.

Ilya and Shane's rivalry finally reaches a new level during their rookie F1 season. 2025 - BAKU, AZERBAIJAN Ilya Rozanov was the most successful Russian driver in the history of Formula 1, even without winning the championship yet. Something that remained as dominant as his growing talent through the feeder series to even make it to F1 was his rivalry with Shane Hollander. If it was so impressive when they were in karts and all the way up to F2, their F1 rivalry would be one for the history books. Or at least it would have it's own Wikipedia page. The problem was they weren't just rivals anymore. It started in their rookie F1 season. A development in their relationship. Ilya had lost the championship, an impressive performance in his debut season to even be a challenger, but Shane Hollander had won. And it skyrocketed him to levels of fame in and outside of F1. But Ilya had won Monaco in that same season. One jewel in the triple crown of motorsport. The problem was so did Hollander, depending on which requirements you follow. The triple crown was to win the Indy 500, 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Monaco Grand Prix or the F1 World Champion. Or win Monaco and the championship in the same season, that’d be easier. Everything was theoretically easy. In reality, it was hard, and only 20 people in the world understood the pressures of an F1 driver at a time. Ilya had been promoted to Red Bull halfway through his debut season. Hollander raced for McLaren from the get go. If he had been in the Red Bull from the start of the season, then he may have clinched the title. No. He definitely would've. He was one with that car. It was built especially for his driving style while his teammates always struggled and ended up backmarkers in a car that was easily the fastest on track. If driven by Ilya. But he had no doubt if Hollander was his teammate, he could also be on the front row with him. Well, he already was. Just in a McLaren. And that papaya orange infuriated him. Their title fight in their rookie seasons had as many twists and turns as Jeddah Corniche, feeling emotions they didn't think possible. Ilya told himself it was only natural to be concerned about Hollander when they collided into the barriers together into turn 1 on lap 1. They were rivals, competitors. Not enemies. He had offered him his hand to help him from the cockpit. He could tell he appreciated it, and they had a calm conversation when Ilya had visited him in his drivers’ room after they were both done with medical checks and media duties. Except that was what scared him. They’d stopped arguing. Started talking. And when Hollander had won the next race in a move Ilya found dirty, they didn't argue. 2024 - SHANGHAI, CHINA Ilya’s argument died on his lips the moment he saw Hollander, stripped down to the waist with the top half of race suit hanging from waist, fireproof undershirt folded on a chair as he was in the middle of changing. “The only reason you’ve won so much is due to the car,” Ilya started, but didn't continue when Hollander didn't either.

Troy Barrett comes to Ottawa wanting stability. He tells himself he wants the team, the routine, the structure, the safety of fitting in without needing too much from anyone. This is his clean start, and he needs to do whatever it takes to keep it.
What he finds instead is Shane Hollander, amazing perfect Shane Hollander, and the uncomfortable realisation that the thing he’s been trying hardest not to want might be the only thing that actually feels like what he needs.
As lines blur and tempers rise, Troy learns the hard way that wanting to belong can turn into wanting to keep, and that some things aren’t up for negotiation, especially when there’s a Russian captain who’s already decided what’s not on offer.
or
“Hey, Ilya?” Troy asks, already regretting it. “I was actually going to ask you about someone.”
The moment he says Shane Hollander’s name, the locker room goes quiet, and Troy knows he’s crossed a line he didn’t fully understand.

Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid

Maybe if the video ended there, Shane thought, it would be okay. Okayish. Still incriminating. Still a fucking disaster. Still embarrassing, to have his breakup with this beautiful actress filmed and disseminated on Reddit of all fucking places, but not a nail in his coffin, burying him alive. But the video didn’t end there.
“Can I ask if you’ve ever been with another guy?” she had to ask.
And he, tears visible in his eyes, had to nod.
Just once. Just a single nod.
Why did he have to nod?
“Have you ever told anyone that before?” He shook his head. “Was it different? With a guy?”
“Of course.”
Of course.
“Was it better?”
“Yes.”
+++
Shane’s conversation with Rose is secretly recorded. Months later, after the All-Star game and Ilya’s confession in Russian, the video gets leaked online. Shane is outed to the world while Ilya is in Russia, and must now finish the 2016-2017 season with the entire world in on his secret.
