This whole fic was caused by a Threads post (https://www.threads.com/@_sweet.rosy_/post/DXm1DzZlfbs , hopefully that link works?) asking what would happen if a rl Shane and Ilya lookalike contest happened and Ilya crashed out having to watch fake-Shane and fake-Ilya have a romance while he and real Shane are still locked in the closet.
This concept needed to be explored, clearly. The original post called for a one-shot, which this isn't quite, but it shouldn't get too long, either.

Shane was exhausted and as it turned out waddling around the house and being this heavily pregnant was actually quite tiresome. That and wrangling a toddler who insisted that she wasn't going to nap because she had to stay awake to see papa's game on TV. Or Shane and Sofia stay up to watch papa and Shane needs a snack.

There are a great many things that Shane has no plans on telling his husband: that when he was twelve he broke a competitor’s hockey stick because he was mad his team didn’t win. That he sometimes thinks that his Mom would have liked to have another kid if Shane wasn’t much of a handful. That he had to pull over to cry in his car on the way back to his apartment that night in Montreal after seeing Ilya dance with another girl in the club.
And, that he can no longer sleep in their bed without Ilya.

So Ilya makes him go to the dentist.

Shane knew he should have waited to drink any fluid at all given the fact that every thirty or so minutes he felt the sensation to use the bathroom. It didn't even take much movement at all from the baby, she could quite literally hiccup and he would have to race to not pee himself. Or Shane is so pregnant and there's a baby on his bladder.

Hayden hated what he was about to say, but he drew up his shoulders and stood up a little straighter. “Alright, so… look… Roz is a horny guy, I’ll give you that.” He and J.J. grimaced at each other. “And sure, he has just as much opportunity to sleep around as he did before they got together, but he doesn’t want to.” J.J. took a breath to argue, and Hayden held up a hand. “That man has taken all that… libido… desire… whatever you want to call it, that he had in his manwhore phase and turned it onto Shane. Only Shane.” He shrugged. “It’s kinda sweet once you get used to it… so long as you don’t sneak up on them.”
When the time came for J.J. to meet Shane's boyfriend, Ilya (rather than the menace on the ice, Rozanov), Hayden agreed to mediate. He just hoped he could keep J.J. from making the same mistakes he did and alienating Shane in the process.

Scott watched as Hollander leaned in, further, to hear Rozanov. This was the part that didn’t entirely make sense to him. The missing piece of something that felt like it was just beyond his reach. This was quiet ease and small moments of comfort and a look that makes the rest of the world fade away. This was how he felt with Kip.
Scott stilled.
It was as if someone had whispered it in his ear. It was as if the final piece of this insane, deranged puzzle finally clicked into place. His heart was pounding in his ears. He was probably wrong. In fact he was entirely wrong. This wasn’t like him and Kip. It couldn’t be Kip. Scott had been watching too many romantic comedies. His head was in the clouds.
But they weren’t touching.
Hollander and Rozanov were as close as they could be, without laying a single finger on one another. They were specifically, rigidly, separate. The warmth between them was bridled. Entirely. And this, Scott realized, his heart sinking into the floor, was also how he had felt with Kip.
Oh. Oh fuck.

Today must have been national 'Ilya talks all day long' day because from the moment they woke up, his husband had yapped his ear off to the point that Shane with all the love in the world playfully suggested that his husband talk their pup's ears off.
