If Yuna had been a different kind of person: one with a different mother, perhaps, with different scars, then maybe she would have embraced her gift. Cultivated it, shared it.
Instead she pretended it didn’t exist. Except for the times when she couldn’t avoid it.
Mich put it down to the grass Yuna had smoked at the Halloween party the following night.
Grass didn’t do this.
Déjà vu wasn’t quite right. She’d had that before. No, this was knowing that what she’d seen was going to happen. In the future. Sera vu, or something like that. Preemptive.
She did not call it Seeing. Not even to herself.

"You are calling your sister liar?" he asked. "On her recital day? On International Women's Day?" Niko just glared at him, while Max snickered behind the pages of his book. "Everyone has a mad voice," Ilya said wisely, reaching for a fresh bobby pin. He gathered up the loose strand that had slipped free and started over, completely unruffled by the looming deadline. "You get yours from your dad." "I don't have a mad voice." The statement came from the doorway. Shane stood there holding Mila's tiny pink cardigan—the one with the pearl buttons that perfectly matched her leotard—draped over one arm. He was fully dressed now, ready to go. White dress shirt tucked in, navy tie perfectly straight, the silver tie clip Ilya had given him years back catching the morning light streaming through the window. Nobody responded. They all knew better. Or, Ilya and Shane's daughter's first ballet recital happens to fall on International Women's Day. A holiday that Ilya takes very seriously.

“Thank you, Shane. For repairing my car.” Ilya shakes his hand one more time before pulling away. Shane might just be deluding himself once again, but he could feel how Ilya purposely dragged his palm slowly across his, even extending his fingers just so their skin would be touching each other longer; he took his time letting go. It felt way more sensual than it should be. His cheeks were now turning red. “Ah, don't thank me just yet, haha. Still have to actually fix your car later. But you can trust me on taking care of it, I’ll be sure to be very careful!” Shane says enthusiastically. This makes Ilya smirk again. “Hm. Then I will thank you tomorrow again. See you.” Shane Hollander works in an auto repair shop. Ilya Rozanov owns a ton of spare sports cars and has a lot of free time.

Who Wore it Best: MLH Rivals Edition by Anonymous
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2026-02-22
Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov are known for their longtime rivalry on the ice. Off the ice, their personalities—and fashion—contrast as well. Rozanov’s monochrome masculine minimalist in sharp relief to Hollander’s fusion of part athleisure, part soft casual.
Their fashion couldn’t be more opposite, which makes it all the more surprising when they are spotted wearing the same pieces. I’ve collected a few of my favorites.
OR:
A notable tabloid publishes this piece comparing how the two rivals’ dichotomous fashion unexpectedly intersects. Now with bonus chapter with Ilya and Shane’s reaction!

Ilya: You take classes on sexuality in Canada? Ilya: And Shane still didn’t know he is gay? Ilya: Or he didn’t know because he missed class? Harris: I was a gay theatre kid in high school and university. Harris: But the whole queer narrative still sucks. Ilya: I understand now. That’s why is important for us to change this “narrative” no? The Irina Foundation is trying to do this. So queer is not sad or depressing. --- Where Jonny Kim is every Asian mom’s wet dream and every Asian Offspring's worst nightmare, Ilya wants to change the queer narrative (one hockey player at a time?), and the sacred Asian institution that is the Mandarin buffet must be preserved. Ilya is one of the girls and that’s the canon I’m going with. Takes place after Shane joins the Centaurs.

It’s not the way he meant it, but if Hollander takes so much fucking offense on the (not even intentional) implication that there’s something more than rivalry going on between him and Rozanov… so be it. Scott isn’t here to coddle some homophobic crybaby.
Scott straightens, squares his shoulders, pulls on all of height, his strength, his anger.

'This is what happens when the social media manager for the Ottawa Centaurs just finished rewatching the entirety of The Office for the 3rd time' “What a fucking nerd,” Ilya laughed, his eyes following Shane across the ice. The camera swung between them before eventually landing back on Ilya. “I want to eat him,” Luca blinked at him, horror slowly etching onto his face. “Like...sexually or...literally? Behind the camera, Harris cleared his throat to remind them of his presence. Ilya’s eyes never left Shane, who was still berating Troy by citing some charts from his clipboard. “Yes,” Haas looked into the camera in utter fear. Alternatively, The Office Fic

Built For The Ice, Not The Lights by Anonymous
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2026-02-20
His heartbeat was too fast. His chest felt tight. The microphone foam brushed his knuckles and the texture was suddenly unbearable, coarse, wrong. Too loud. Too bright. Too close. Too much. He needed space. or After an intense game and overwhelming post-game media scrum, Shane hits sensory overload and has a meltdown. Ilya finds him hiding away and stays, grounding him through it and reminding him he doesn’t have to handle everything alone. The worst part wasn’t the game. Shane could handle the game. The game had rules. It had structure. It had the clean geometry of the rink, the crisp bite of steel on ice, the predictable rotation of shifts. Even when it was chaotic, it was a chaos he understood. Pucks moved in patterns. Bodies angled in lines. Systems nested inside systems. Shane had been mapping them in his head since he was a kid. Media Day did not have rules. Or rather, it had too many. “Just be yourself,” the PR woman had said with a bright smile that hurt to look at. “Relax. Smile. Keep your answers light.” Be yourself. Relax. Light. The hallway outside the locker room was already too loud. Reporters clustered like birds, their voices overlapping in sharp bursts. The lights from the camera rigs were brighter than usual, hot and white and relentless. Someone had turned the music up in the dressing room, bass thudding through his ribs. Shane stood at his stall, fingers curled around the edge of the wooden bench. He tried to catalog sensations the way his therapist had taught him. Too bright. Too loud. Fabric itchy at the back of his neck. The elastic in his compression shirt digging into his ribs. Sweat cooling too fast along his spine. He inhaled for four counts. Held for four. Exhaled for four. “Hollander!” someone called. “You ready?” He nodded automatically. He was always ready. Except today his skin felt like it was two sizes too small. The game itself was brutal. Fast, punishing, every hit to his body landing harder than it should. It was the kind of rivalry matchup that fed headlines for weeks. Shane scored once, assisted once, and blocked a shot that left a bruise blooming across his thigh. He played well. He played the way he always did, precise, relentless, methodical. But the crowd was louder than usual, a constant wall of noise pressing against his skull. Every whistle shrieked. Every horn drilled straight through him. When he sat on the bench, the smell of sweat and rubber and ammonia stung the back of his throat. By the third period, his thoughts had started to fragment. Too loud. Too bright. Too much. He missed a pass he would normally make without looking. His stick felt wrong in his hands, the tape uneven. His gloves were damp and suffocating. When the final buzzer sounded and the arena erupted, the sound didn’t feel like celebration. It felt like an explosion. They won. Someone clapped him on the helmet. “Media’s gonna love you tonight, Hollander.” The thought made his heart sink just a little. The hallway afterward was worse. The lights hadn’t dimmed. If anything, they were harsher. Microphones were thrust toward his face, logos flashing. Questions overlapped, voices stacking on top of each other until he couldn’t separate them. “Shane, talk about that second-period goal—” “Was that set play something you practiced—” “How does it feel to beat—” “How much pressure did you feel coming into—” Pressure. He felt pressure everywhere. In his ears. In his teeth. Behind his eyes. He tried to answer the first question. He opened his mouth. The words did not come out in the right order. “I—uh—the play, it was—” The lights flickered slightly as someone adjusted a camera, and the motion snagged his focus. “We practiced—no, I mean—” Someone laughed softly, not unkindly, but it sliced through him anyway. His heartbeat was too fast. His chest felt tight. The microphone foam brushed his knuckles and the texture was suddenly unbearable, coarse, wrong. Too loud. Too bright. Too close. Too much. He needed space.

In a surprising twist in what she assumes everyone thinks about Yuna Hollander, she does not care for Instagram. She understands its usefulness, and she does have one, but it’s all simply posts about Shane’s latest accolades, his brand deals and advertisements, a few sprinkled posts about the Metros, and posts from the Irina Foundations–so perfectly bland and impersonal. That is, of course, until the FanMail leak takes a wrecking ball to her boys’ lives (fuck you very much, Brad). After that, she decides she’s not going to let the rest of the world dictate the love that Ilya and Shane share. She’s not going to let them get beaten down by the assholes out there who see anything but two people in love. AKA: Five times Yuna shows the world Ilya's her son, too, and one time he calls her mom.
