“Hollander.” Shane’s head snaps back to his left. Ilya is much closer, pace slightly hurried. “Come here.” His voice sort of mimics the way one would talk to an animal paralyzed in fight-or-flight. Shane is not sure what to make of that. He slowly turns his head in the opposite direction, where his vision tunnels on the door for the stairwell. It almost glows like a special item in a video game, like a hint. Without giving himself time to doubt, he bolts. “Wha- Hollander, what the fuck!” Ilya shouts in audible disbelief, and Shane distinctly hears matching thuds of frantic footsteps behind him; Ilya is chasing after him. Shane runs faster, positively sprinting at this point. He’s the fastest skater in the NHL right now. He can do this. He flings the door open and bounds down the steps two at a time, hitting the walls with each turn of a corner. If he eats shit on this filthy floor and embarrasses himself in front of Ilya, he thinks, he’ll never let himself see the light of day ever again. or alternatively, in which Shane accidentally sends the text, and Ilya chases after him. Like, actually chases after him.

Shane gets hit on by strangers, Ilya has a chirp book, Ilya is a worm, Shane consumes too many "special" brownies, and Shane chirps for the first time. Or. A series of one shots of Ilya and Shane being disgustingly in love. --- Witnessing Shane interact with a group of painfully average men makes Ilya’s heart race a little, and not in a good way. Maybe this jealousy is a bad thing and he should learn to stop feeling so annoyed whenever other people flirt and confess their undying love for his husband, but that’s a thought for tomorrow’s Ilya.

Finish Your Tuna Melt by sincerelyinej
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2026-01-02
What if Ilya convinced Shane not to leave after the tuna melt scene? * “I’m sorry.” Shane repeated, gathering the rest of his clothes before turning to walk out of the room. It was just a name. All he said was a name, but it was his name. Shane. And it sounded like honey dripping from Ilya’s tongue. But it was too much too soon. The realization hit him when he reached for the doorknob. How could he pretend that this arrangement was enough? The sneaking around, the secret fucks a couple times a year. It wasn’t enough.

“What, do they think I’m not checking my phone when I know they’re planning to be here around five?” Shane asks. “I wanted them to text once, not to spam me.” “Is good for them to do,” Ilya points out. “Imagine if they had planned being one hour early. You were not checking then.” Shane blushes and Ilya smirks at him. “Well, that was your fault,” Shane says. --- Shane and Ilya's dinner with Shane's parents after episode 6. Shane’s parents text their ETA forty-five, thirty, and fifteen minutes before their arrival at the cottage. “My fault I gave you best blowjob of your life?” “I don’t know about that, I’ve had some pretty good blowjobs,” Shane says. “Yes,” Ilya says, backing Shane up against the kitchen counter and bracketing him with his arms. “From me.” “Not only you.” “Only good ones were from me. I know this. You know this.” “Fuck you,” Shane says, which means yes. “Maybe,” Ilya murmurs, “I need to show you again. Remind you. Break my own record for giving the best blowjob Shane Hollander ever had.” Shane kisses him, desperate and urgent, but unfortunately they're interrupted by his phone buzzing and the sound of a car pulling up outside. “Oh my god, they just texted again,” Shane says. “I already responded the last two times.” “Tell them five minutes,” Ilya says, pressing a kiss to Shane’s neck. As he hoped, Shane squirms. Ilya has no intention to actually make Shane’s parents wait in the car while he gives Shane another blowjob, but he loves how Shane gets when Ilya teases him. “No way,” Shane says, typing. “I’m telling them to come in. Just be aware it will be like this whenever we see them, I guess.” Ilya grins. Honestly, after he got over the initial shock and awkwardness, he pretty much had the time of his life at Shane’s parent’s place. It felt nice not to hide, and to be with people who seemed to like his being there well enough, and to be able to show how fucking proud he was of Shane without fear. Combined with the vodka and the pasta, Ilya thinks they pretty much all got off to the best start possible. They hear the front door open, and then Shane’s parents’ voices. “Hello? Shane? Ilya? It’s us!” “It’s mom and dad! We’ll wait for you in the kitchen!” “They think we have to be in bedroom to fuck? That we cannot be fucking in the kitchen?” Ilya whispers. Shane’s eyes go wide and he makes a sort of frantic shushing noise. Ilya loves him so damn much. He presses a kiss to Shane’s temple, takes a step back and lets him out of his arms. “We’re already in the kitchen, it’s fine, you can come in,” Shane calls towards his parents. “Please don’t act like we traumatised you or something, Dad.” “Just being respectful,” David says, as he steps into the kitchen, Yuna close behind him. Yuna is carrying several tupperware boxes filled with different foods. David is holding a bottle of vodka. No offence to Shane’s mom, but Ilya knows who he is bonding with more out of the two of them so far. “Figured I’d bring this,” David says, smiling, holding the bottle out to Ilya. “Thank you,” Ilya says. “I will put it in freezer until dinner.” He makes sure to open the freezer only when David is not looking, so he won’t see that Ilya has better vodka in there that he brought to the cottage. Ilya doesn’t want to make David feel like the gift isn’t special or appreciated. Shane is going through Yuna’s boxes. “Mom,” he says. “Who is supposed to eat all of this?” “I can leave the leftovers with you,” Yuna says. “Make sure you have enough proper food for the next couple of days.” “I have plenty of proper food here,” Shane says. “I cooked burgers! They weren’t even macrobiotic.” “Is true,” Ilya says. “We have been eating tasty things.” He winks at Shane when his parents aren’t looking. Shane scowls but he blushes, too. “That’s great,” Yuna says. “It’s good to have comfort food once in a while even as an athlete. Shane needs to relax sometimes and enjoy himself.” “I make sure. Is no problem.” “Okay!” Shane says loudly, grabbing a tupperware box of chicken. “I will take these to the barbecue. Ilya?” Ilya follows him outside, grinning.

Hayden accidentally infects the entire team with head lice from his kids. Shane passes it on to Ilya, who has no idea what “lice” means in English and completely freaks out. A short, cute story set before the cottage, full of love, fluff, and a little reflection on what it would be like if they were actually together. PS: You most likely don’t have lice, so don’t panic if your head starts itching after reading this! Mine definitely did Shane stood under the hot spray of the shower, smiling to himself. Last night with Ilya had been unreal. Montreal had beaten Boston 4–2, which had left Ilya absolutely furious afterward, and that ending in the angriest, best sex Shane had ever had. And after that, the best sleep of his life, tangled up next to him. Shane tilted his head back and let the water run down his face, dragging his fingers through his hair. He scratched hard. God damn it, his scalp itched like crazy. Maybe he was allergic to the new shampoo. Fuck that organic stuff, he should just brought the normal stuff. He shut off the water, grabbed a towel, and wrapped it tight around his hips. Just as he stepped out of the bathroom, his phone started blowing up. Lily: You are cute when you come Lily: Thanks for last night. Excited to see you lose next time 😘 Shane snorted. Asshole. He was about to type something back when a new notification popped up. Hayden: I am so sorry guys. Please don’t kill me. JJ: What did you do? Arthur: If you say norovirus again, I swear to God. We play against New york tomorrow. Hayden: I talked to Coach. He’ll tell you what to do. Arthur: You’re scaring me. Hayden: Jade and Ruby have head lice. I have head lice. And we all shared that helmet for pictures earlier this week… yeah. I’m so fucking sorry. Shane’s stomach dropped. His scalp itched harder. Head lice? He’d never had head lice in his life. Wasn’t that a kid thing? Could you get sepsis from it? Could it spread to—God, he didn’t even know. Another notification came in. Coach: Everyone to the locker room ASAP. I’ve called in hairdressers and the team doctor. We’ll handle treatment today. If you want to buzz your head, today’s the day boys. I’m sending instructions for what to do with bedding, clothes, towels—everything. Shane stared at his phone. Fantastic. *** The locker room was chaos. Laughter echoed off the tiles. Half the guys had already buzzed their heads; others sat on folding chairs with shower caps pulled tight over their hair, taking selfies and laughing like this was some kind of prank. How were they so calm? “Hayden, this is your fault!” someone yelled. “My wife says I’m sleeping on the couch for a month!” “I’m sorry, David!” Hayden shouted back from the showers. “Jackie’s baking brownies for everyone!” Shane made his way over. Chairs were lined up near the showers, guys combing through hair and applying treatment with help from the team doctor and hairdressers. Hayden sat in one of the chairs, looking like a kicked puppy. “Shane! Over here!” Hayden said. “I’m really sorry, man. I know you hate this stuff. But it’s harmless if you treat it right.” “Yeah, yeah,” Shane muttered. “At least I don’t have hair like Jonas.” He nodded toward Jonas, who sat stiffly while a stylist worked through his long, thick dark hair. Jonas had been traded from Ottawa last summer and had sworn not to cut it until he won a Stanley Cup. Hayden winced. “You think Boston Lily’s gonna be mad at me?” Shane shot him a look. “What? No, I, What…” “Shh. It’s fine,” Hayden said. “You left early, you were glued to your phone all night, smiling like an idiot. Acting like you do when Boston Lily is in town.” “Hush,” Shane said, face burning. Fuck. Ilya. His thick, blond curls. Their heads on the same pillow. Skin to skin. Shane definitely had lice. Which meant… Oh god. The media would eat this alive if it got out. The Montreal Voyageurs with lice. And if Ilya had it too…

Graffiti My Whole Damn Life (Honey) by Signsofsam
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2026-01-01
Shane doesn’t like social media. For one, he’s so used to shoving his private life so deep in the closet that it can’t see the light of day, but also, he’s a naturally private person, and the thought of letting people see any part of what keeps him stable and going–it scares him. So mostly, his social media accounts are run by his mom and his social media team, mostly ads and sponsorships and sharing Metros posts and information from the Irina Foundation. Every once in a blue moon, it’s something truly him, the cottage or him and Hayden and JJ, a yoga mat (a tuna melt, a coke, a loon at the cottage). And then, just like that (and one ill-timed Fanmail video), his carefully curated private world implodes, and while picking up the pieces, he decides he’s done. He has this amazing life, this amazing boyfriend (fiancé!), and he wants the world to know at least a piece of it because he and Ilya deserve to finally be openly in love.

A Cure for Everything by LawnchairIII
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2026-01-01
Shane goes to Ottawa to spend a night with Ilya between games. But when he gets to Ilya's house, he's surprised to find that Ilya's weekend in bed has taken on a different meaning. Mostly fluff. Set during The Long Game, but no real spoilers. “Ilya?” Shane called. It was odd that he’d made it this far into Ilya’s house without being jumped. Normally, Ilya would have Shane half undressed the second the door closed. “In here,” Ilya called. The call sounded like it was coming from the bedroom. Did Ilya have some sort of surprise for him? The thought made Shane adjust his pants. A surprise from Ilya could be anything. Shane jogged up the staircase toward his bedroom, taking two steps at a time. However, when he opened the bedroom door, he did not see Ilya. “Ilya?” he called again, slightly quieter. “The bathroom,” he called, which Shane now clearly heard coming from the ensuite. Weird. Surprises didn’t usually start in the bathroom. Still, Shane pushed the door open. Ilya curled in the fetal position on the bathroom floor was not the kind of surprise he had in mind. “Are you okay?” Shane asked. “The stupid…” Ilya gestured in front of himself, trying to conjure the word from thin air. “The stupid virus. It took down the whole team.” Shane’s instincts told him to turn and run away from Ilya as fast as he could. Ilya had mentioned a few players being down at their last game with a stomach bug. The last thing Shane needed was their weekend together forcing him to miss games next week. But then he looked at Ilya. His forehead was soaked in sweat, and his skin looked pallid. There was also a look in his eyes that was screaming stay directly into Shane’s mind. Shane hardly ever got sick. His immune system was excellent. He’d run to the pharmacy and grab some vitamin C later, just to be safe. “Are you still…?” Shane nodded to the toilet. Ilya shook his head. “There is nothing left in me. My whole soul was taken from me. Come here.” Shane hesitated momentarily before kneeling on the cold, grey tile floor. He couldn’t deny Ilya, especially when his voice sounded so needy. “Hollander, I need you to give funeral speech. Start planning it so I can give it my approval.” Ilya flopped his arm and grabbed Shane’s wrist with fake desperation. Shane shook his head. “Idiot.” “Your idiot. At least for the next few minutes. Until I die.” Ilya smiled wryly under the curls of hair that fell into his face. Shane stood, grabbing onto Ilya’s arm to hoist him up. “Let’s get you to bed.” Ilya groaned dramatically as he stood, but the slight sway when he planted both feet on the floor was very real. Shane put his hands on Ilya’s hips to steady him.

"So what does this word mean? You've called me something new again." asked Shane. For the first time ever, Ilya just giggled instead of answering. "Ilya."
