Like maybe he just doesn’t know what batter is supposed to look like. Shane supposes he probably doesn’t. He’s never seen Hayden make anything more complicated than a protein shake. Shane hangs his head. “No.” Hayden laughs, Jackie laughs, and the kids clamber all over him to get a peek at the lumpy mixture. “That looks yucky,” Ruby observes with an air of wisdom from where she has managed to climb onto Shane’s back. “I don’t want to eat that,” her twin agrees from her mirrored position on Hayden. Jackie looks at Shane pityingly. “Shane, sweetie, I’m sure Ilya will be happy with anything you plan for him. “Where is my baby?” Ilya asks as soon as he opens the door to the Pikes’ SUV when it pulls into the parking lot of Christ Church Cathedral.
“Lovely to see you too, Rozanov,” Hayden says as he opens his car door.
“Hi, Hayden,” Shane says from behind Ilya. “Lovely to see you. Please ignore my husband.”
Ilya can’t even be bothered to snark back at either of them, because today is his big day.
Well, mostly. It’s sort of Amber’s day, too, he guesses, and kind of Shane’s as well if one were to look at it from a very specific angle, but mostly it’s Ilya’s.
And as Amber gives him a cheesy grin when she sees him (a new development as of the last couple of weeks), Ilya knows even his boring husband and his boring husband’s loser best friend can’t ruin this perfect day.

Hollander’s face flashed in his mind, once again, as he took that glance backward that cost him the game, and almost his life. Before Marlowe had reached him, Hollander’s expression was pure triumph, a beaming smile directed towards Ilya that made his heart clench. This injury would likely prevent Hollander from playing the rest of the season, which would be devastating for both of them. Ilya could only hope that the rest of this season was all that Hollander would lose. Some outcomes could be much worse. Ilya couldn’t live in a world without Hollander. He wouldn’t. Ilya couldn’t even entertain that thought without getting nauseous. He took deep breaths in and out, leaning his head on the wall behind him. A rewrite of episode four and what happens afterward. “Well yeah,” Shane said, his voice took the slightly bratty tone that Rozanov loves. “You keep your house cold as shit.” This made Rozanov burst out laughing. He went towards his dresser to pull out a hoodie. He pauses as he sees Shane’s perfectly folded outfit settle neatly on the wood. He lets a small smile cross his lips within the privacy his back has provided from Shane. Like in every piece of clothing Rozanov has ever had the luxury of peeling off of Shane’s body a neat S.H. was written on the label of Shane’s jacket. He was about to toss an old CCM sweatshirt to Shane when a different one caught his eye. The team had got them this year, they were black with the Boston Bear’s logo in yellow. The hoodie was branded with Rozanov’s number and last name on it. The thought of Hollander, Montreal’s and the NHL’s golden boy, wearing his name did something to him. I guess he didn’t care that Shane was a hockey god, the only thing he cared about was the fact that in a few moments he was going to see Shane wearing his last name. Something he couldn’t let himself dream of.

While he takes a deep inhale, Ilya adjusts his hold on the bag of ice on his angry, swollen knee that is in the middle of a suicide mission in protest of Ilya playing a professional sport in his late thirties. “Hockey.”

Inspired by please leave a message by subcorax Upon Ilya’s signing with the Centaurs, the first order of business to attend to was the WAGs group chat. “Do you have anyone that you might want to include? I can send her number over to my wife, Cassie.” Boodram explained. Ilya couldn’t help the smirk that crossed over his face in that moment. “Yes. There is someone…” ••• Cassie added ###-###-####. Cassie: Hey everyone! This is Jane. She’s Ilya Rozanov’s WAG? Cassie: Sorry. Zane didn’t really specify what the situation was with you two, but apparently Ilya said it was okay to add you here? Shane was going to kill Ilya later. Staring at the open “Centaur WAGs” chat, he wasn’t even sure what to say in this situation. The truth? Jane: Ilya and I have been dating for a while, but we’ve been a thing for much longer. Jane: He gave you my number to add here? Cassie: Well, he gave it to my husband so that he could give it to me, but yes! Welcome! No matter the situation, we’re excited to have you. Lisa: Hi Jane!! I’m Lisa, Wyatt Hayes’s wife. The whole thing was interesting. He appreciated the added outlet— in the least— considering how Hayden had little interest in speaking about the intricacies of his relationship, and how Rose was usually too busy to talk much. Maybe it had been done with the intent of getting on his nerves, but perhaps Ilya had done him a favor, after all. Jane: It’s great you meet you all. A WAGs chat will be a new experience for me. Shane wouldn’t tell them that that was because he was usually the player over the partner. Of course, he also wouldn’t mention that he was neither a “wife” nor “girlfriend.” Cassie: Most of the time, we just talk about the boys and what our lives are like as their partners. It can be stressful, can’t it? Hopefully, we can provide you a good space to open up and release that stress! That was easy enough. Shane was often stressed out by how little he and Ilya’s schedules overlapped throughout the season— although, he couldn’t help but feel somewhat guilty as a contributor to the problem. A part of him felt as if he was out of his element, so he decided to text an expert in the subject. Shane: Ilya had me added to the Centaur WAGs group chat. What do I do? Jackie: He did??!!! Jackie: I thought you guys were still keeping things under wraps! Shane: He introduced me as “Jane.” It’s the name he has for me in his phone, since we have to be careful about who we’re caught texting and calling. Jackie: Hm. Okay. Jackie: Well, just play it cool! The girls will probably talk about hockey and the boys and their own experiences as WAGs. Do your best to contribute, and don’t be afraid to have fun! I love the MTL WAG chat.
