  1. Hayden knew he wasn’t stupid. Well, not completely. Well, he felt like he was pretty smart about some things, and, okay, a little oblivious about others. Still, he liked to think he was pretty far from stupid—especially when compared to his fellow hockey players. Like, he’d known that Shane had that off-and-on thing with that girl in Boston, Lily, for years. He didn’t know much more than that, and he especially didn’t know why Shane was so cagey about it, but his best friend was admittedly pretty weird about everything. - Slight AU where Shane comes out to Hayden and J.J. around the time he breaks up with Rose, but Lily's identity remains a secret. For now.

  2. “I wanted to apologize for what I said last week.” Oh. This was certainly uncharted territory. “You really don’t have to–” “I really do.” Hunter interrupted him firmly. Shane didn’t know how to respond to the conviction in Hunter’s voice or to the entire subject matter of this call, so he kept his mouth shut. “It wasn’t appropriate of me to insinuate anything about your life outside of the rink.” He continues after a short beat. “If there’s anything going on I promise I’m not against it. Especially since–” — — — or: after the fight between Scott Hunter and Shane Hollander, Scott gives Shane a call and things are revealed.

  3. “Who’s got you blushing like that, Shane Hollander?” Shane’s gaze shoots up and his brain short-circuits, going completely blank with any good answer other than the truth – Ilya Rozanov makes me giggle like a lovesick fool. Shit. “Uhh, my mom?” Terrible answer. What the fuck, Hollander? “You’re a terrible liar, my friend,” Rose points out as she smirks and watches him carefully. OR, Shane comes clean about his relationship with Ilya to Rose Landry.

  4. JJ slips an arm over his shoulders then, knocking Shane off centre. “Why do you look so serious?,” he pokes at Shane’s side. Because I have a tramp stamp that says my ass is property of the other team’s captain, is not something Shane can say out loud, so he just goes with, “Raiders home game, you know? Feeling the pressure.” JJ nods seriously, “yes, lots riding on this. Rozanov is just ahead of you in goals this season, yes?” “For now,” Shane mutters. “You will not let him finish first,” JJ declares, clapping him on the back when they reach their locker room. He never does, Shane thinks. / Shane gets drunk, and gets a tattoo. Ilya gets turned on.

  5. Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov both need one thing to live their dreams of playing for the NHL: a mating bite. Shane's an omega, and the League doesn't allow unmated omegas to play hockey. Ilya's a Russian alpha, who needs a mate to get a U.S. visa. Their slightly harebrained solution? Bite each other, and let the unfinished bond fade. After five years of stupid texts, awkward heat-care packages, and dancing around their feelings, the bond still hasn't faded and ignoring it has become impossible—something's got to give. -- Contains spoilers for those who have only watched the show, and for The Long Game. A/B/O AU that very loosely follows canon. Happy ending!

  11. "Shane?" He goes for the hand on the shoulder. Shane's skin is blazing against his own clammy palm. With a whimper, Shane says, "Alpha?" "No—not alpha." Fuck, that's what he should do. 12. It's been a hell of a year for the Centaurs. Shane and Ilya are playing their first playoffs together as teammates. An old teammate makes Shane doubt his loyalty. Ilya reminds him just how loyal he is. Or; the one where they win it all. Watching Ilya Rozanov work out was damn near obscene. His smooth, glistening body, covered in beads of sweat as he shoulder-pressed a 150lb barbell above his head was a sight to see. Shane was sure that, with enough incentive, Ilya could press him. That would be a PR he'd happily be part of. "What a sight, right?" Harris said, interrupting Shane's thoughts. Shane startled. Had Harris been standing there long? Shane coughed, making a sorry attempt at collecting himself. "Um, yeah, I..." "Enough said," Harris winked. Shane flushed at being caught, a burning heat rising below his eyes. Not the first time he had been caught with a wandering eye in the Ottawa Centaurs gym. Or locker room. Or really anywhere in the practice facility. Shane had been on the Centaurs since July, when his contract with the voyageurs ended and he became a free agent. Since then, Shane and Ilya had been an unstoppable force. Even though they rarely played on the ice at the same time, save for a few power plays, their chemistry was undeniable. They dominated the league in points, and Shane's position on the second-line made it so their power in the center ran deep. "No, I just lost my focus for a sec," Shane tried, but even as he said it, he heard the quips before they came out. He rolled the dumbbell over in his palm, trying to ground himself and not get lost in a hole of embarrassment. "You seem to be losing your focus a lot lately, huh? I thought we hired you for your keen mental discernment," Troy Barrett said. Jesus, was everyone watching him drool over his husband? Shane made a noise between a grunt and a whimper, trying to end the conversation there. Unfortunately, his husband had the worst timing in the world. Ilya dropped his barbell onto its support and lifted his upper body to come to a seated position. His grey T-shirt clung to the contours of his body, a dark ring of sweat pooling along his neckline. His curls stuck to his forehead, not unlike when he and Shane were... intimate. Shane shuddered at the thought. Ilya noticed the three of them aggregated in the corner by the dumbbells, looking straight at him, and lifted his hand to his ear to pull out one of his earphones. "Are you talking about me?" Ilya said coyly, playing with the cord of his earphones. His charm is infuriating. Troy let out a laugh. "Your husband is obsessed with you." Ilya's grin cracked his face in half. "Can you blame him?" "Ugh, you guys are horrible," Shane groaned. The truth was, Shane was obsessed with him. He didn't realize how good it would feel to share everything with each other. A bed, a gym, a team. It all felt so right. And it still felt so new, despite the past few months of working together. So forgive him if he wanted to savour every moment he spent with his husband, especially after years of hiding. "All right everyone, listen up," Coach Wiebe said as he entered the gym. Ilya winked at Shane. Shane cleared his throat and turned to face his Coach. "This is it. Our second year in a row in the playoffs starts tomorrow. This is our chance to show everyone that it was not a fluke. We've got a great chance of really winning this thing this year, especially with our new additions." Shane felt a slap on his back as Troy whooped. Somehow, Shane felt himself turn an even deeper shade of red. He had been welcomed with open arms by the Cens, but it sometimes shook him just how much he was a part of this team. After playing for the Voyageurs for the better part of a decade, it still felt weird to have a different logo on his jersey. Shane recalled that his first goal as a Centaur – Ilya wouldn’t let him forget it, he’d kept the puck – had caused quite the roar in the arena where they played. They called him a hometown hero now. "Now, I know you all want to decorate this place with banners as much as I do, so let's get to work." *** Coach Wiebe was right. They really did have a chance at winning this whole thing. In the first round against Buffalo, every pass connected, their defence was on fire, and Hayes was an iron wall. They swept them, 4-0. Their second round against the Admirals was mildly tougher. Scott Hunter might have been older, but he was still as fast as an arrow when he needed to be. To make matters worse, Luca Haas had been rocked into the glass in their third game and was put on a mandatory three game rest. The Cens readjusted, and Ilya took on Luca's position on the wing. Shane came up to center on the first line. Their chemistry on the ice was unbeatable. It was like they were in each other's brains. He wasn’t sure he would ever enjoy playing hockey after being abandoned by the Voyageurs. Playing with this team – playing with Ilya – it made hockey fun again. They won that series by game 6, 4-2. In their last series in the eastern conference, they were matched up against Montreal. Because of course they were. Whatever angry, homophobic gods were responsible for this were probably laughing down at Shane as he took to center ice to kick off game seven. "Hollander," came a squeaky voice from across the center circle. The arena comes to life as Aaron Goulding, a fresh-faced 19 year old rookie, lines up against Shane for the puck drop. Aaron was supposed to be the new Shane Hollander. Shane had to admit, he was fast -- but his inexperience was obvious. Shane smirked at Goulding's attempt at being tough. "Aaron," Shane replied coolly. The only place Shane ever felt cool was on the ice. "It's an honour," Goulding said. Shane smiled into the floor.

  13. Many people have started turning their heads at the commotion. Ilya’s half sure it’s just another drunken brawl, a frequent byproduct of stupidity and poorly held liquor— but Svetlana, who is sitting angled towards whatever is happening, squints her eyes. Surprise splashes across her face. “Podozhdite. Isn’t that Hollander?” Later, when he finds Shane outside on the curb, Ilya says, “What the fuck.” “I’m half Japanese,” Shane replies like it explains everything and like he didn’t just deck a man flatly out. “My mom put me in Karate when I was little. What that guy said wasn’t right, and he initiated it, so.” or: hollander gets into a bar fight. rozanov tends to his wounds afterwards

  14. [“Oh fuck,” Cliff hears himself say out loud as his brain suggests—something. “Roz and Holl…oh, fuck.” Pike goes still for a moment before shoving him, rough and unexpected enough that Cliff nearly overbalances. “Fuck off, Marlow,” Pike snarls, hauling him in by the sweater. Cliff ignores it, staring past Pike’s shoulder. “Fucking Christ, fucking—are they—” “Shut the fuck up, shut up, shut your fucking mouth, Marlow.” “They’re—fuck, fuck, I didn’t mean to, I didn’t—” Cliff finds himself looking at Pike almost pleadingly, a weird helplessness buzzing in his fingertips and toes. “I didn’t kno—” “You don’t know shit,” Pike says savagely, physically putting himself between Cliff and the space Hollander used to be. “Shut your fucking mouth, you don’t know anything.”] OR, Cliff Marlow's POV of The Hit and the aftermath, as he starts to put a few things together.

He thinks Shane Hollander might be the same, except the thing about him he cannot hide. Ilya Rozanov is the biggest hockey talent of his generation. So is Shane Hollander. But over the years Ilya notices that the vicious media and the clamouring fans and some of his more foul-mouthed teammates treat Hollander differently than any other hockey player.

  18. “Game is over,” he says. “You won. I lost. I was annoying. Normal.” “That’s not—” Shane starts, then stops, because he actually doesn't know how to finish that thought without sounding like an idiot. His jaw works, teeth grinding together. That's not what I meant. That's not the point. You said I was boring and you were right and I need you to say it again so I know where I stand, so I know what you think of me, so I can stop waiting for the other shoe to drop. He settles for: “You were kind of an asshole.”
