It's TMZ, of course, because it's always fucking TMZ, dropping a grainy image of Shane and Ilya kissing on the deck, Ilya's hand sliding under Shane's shirt as Shane's hands grip his sides, clearly taken using a telescopic lens from somewhere on the other side of the lake to the cottage.
Part of Ilya is horrified, that their most private, most beloved place has been violated like this, and part of him is, he realizes very guiltily, relieved that this doesn't have to be a secret anymore.
The largest part of him, however, is scared.OR
Ilya and Shane get outed, and Hayden Pike is an unexpected hero.

He let out a pleased hum at himself as it sank into the upper left corner. “You’re fucking not. You’re the kinda guy who gets his roommate flowers to be an asshole, actually. You know, I’ve never met a single other person who’s ever done that.” Ilya gave an exaggerated pout, “You are being mean to me on our roommate anniversary.” “Are you going to do this every fucking year?” • • • • • • Ilya buys Shane flowers to celebrate the anniversary of them living together in their university apartment. Shane finds this a particularly asshole move from Ilya, considering they started living together in September and it's currently January. They spend most of the day arguing about it, until Shane finally comes clean about the deeper reason his roommate's "gift" has left him so off-kilter all day.

Easy, kind. Not constantly demanding that Ilya performs more, provides more, gives more, wins more, more, more, more— "So, uh." Shane's father cuts through the fog of Ilya's thoughts. "How do you feel about all of this?" What sort of question was that? "Uh, good, I guess." Ilya shrugs, before remembering that David's son is probably out there having a panic attack with his crying wife.
