As she watched Rozanov skate half circles around Shane's unconscious body in the unnatural quiet of the Boston arena, Jackie Pike's heart raced. Her whole body shook as her brain struggled to make sense of what was happening. A few moments later, she recognized the Russian's expression. She'd seen it on the faces of other WAGs when their men went down hard. It was the physical manifestation of her recurring nightmare - Hayden motionless and bleeding after a hit, thinking she was about to lose the love of her life. Nothing else existed but that body lying on the ice. This was exactly how Rozanov looked at him now, and the only possible explanation was love. Or, A 5 + 1 story about five people who observe the relationship between Shane and Ilya unfold in real time and come to their own conclusions about what's going on. Plus, a bonus chapter featuring the family dinner that Shane’s parents invite themselves to right after meeting Ilya for the first time.

“Jackie?” Shane’s question cuts through the silence, and Jackie winces at the frantic rasp of his voice. “Right here, honey.” She tries to keep her voice light, wrapping her hand around Hayden’s wrist and meeting his worried gaze over the phone. “What’s going on?” “I need your help.” Shane croaks out. “They called, but they won’t - I need to know if he’s okay, but they won’t tell me.” The end of his sentence disappears in something so close to a sob it makes something in Jackie’s chest freeze over.

“Okay,” Farah began, “We can announce your relationship in two ways. We can hard launch it, like ripping off a bandaid. Or we…soft launch. Slowly. Very slowly. Give people time to wrap their heads around the idea, so that by the time you guys announce your relationship, most people will be expecting it.” Later that week, Shane Hollander @shanehollander24 posted: Great game tonight @realrozanov but don’t get your hopes up when Montreal’s in town. Thirty seconds later, Milly @shaydenforever replied: i’m screaming not my baby shane’s first post in a year being a chirp keep the PR friendship alive Thuy @hollanderposting: I just know his momager yuna (affectionate) put a gun to his head and said “if you really cared about your charity getting donations you’d be more active on social media” and you know what. God bless. 🙏 Or, a social media fic in a world where Shane and Ilya didn't get outed and instead decided to soft launch their relationship

Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid

She had always expected the same life for Shane. Perhaps she couldn’t have predicted birthing and raising the number 2 draft pick, and future captain of her hometown team, but she saw him ending up in an easy and loving marriage. He took after David mostly, being shy and introspective. Despite knowing her son’s intricate list of tells and behaviours, Yuna couldn’t pretend she would ever truly know what was going through his head. Shane was like that. He always had been. Still, Yuna expected some cute, pretty girl to come around and throw Shane over her shoulder one day - similar to how Yuna had found her shy husband. ... Or how Yuna tries to understand Shane's love life for years, until she finally does.

Ilya: Okay, Sam. I need you to help with something. I want to do commercial shoot. Sam: Um - okay, I don’t think that I am - Ilya: You are Samantha Pearson, yes? Head assistant to what is his name, Mr. Marketing? Sam: Chief of Marketing Operations. Yes, that’s me, but - Ilya: Great. So here is what I want you to tell Mr. Chief. Should be commercial with me and Shane Hollander. People love talking about us. It will make CCM a lot of money. Sam: So a commercial with both of your teams? Ilya: Ne sovsem. No. Just me and Hollander, I think. We can make rivalry - what is word, only thing there? Sam: Um, the focus? Ilya: Da, focus! And part of focus would be our faces. So lots of close up of our faces. Sam: Like during a face off play? Ilya: Da! Exactly. During face off. Because hockey! Molodets! Sam: Okay, um. I guess I should be writing this down? Ilya decides to take matters in his own hands when he realizes he won't see Shane until October, and orchestrates a little commercial shoot with their new sponsor.

Competition was in Shane and Ilya's blood. Even when it comes to painting clay hockey helmets for charity. I do not support AI, I do not use AI in my work(s), and I do not consent to my work(s) being used for AI in any shape or form. If I ever find my work(s) outside of fan spaces where they should be, everything gets locked—that’s a promise, not a threat.

It was supposed to be a joke, okay? It was supposed to be funny, and they were all supposed to get a laugh out of it. Despite all of his protests, Hayden had thought he could get Shane to see the humor in it once he gave in. Except the longer Shane decidedly didn’t find it funny, the less entertaining it became for Hayden as well. Hayden hadn’t ever actually done a deep-dive into the whole Hollanov internet obsession. He wasn’t prepared to have the cornerstone of his worldview be destroyed by a youtube compilation video. -- The Montreal team watch a Hollanov compilation on youtube, for fun, and realize some things.

“What are these?” Yuna hears Ilya ask. He’s standing with his back to her in front of the armoire next to the couch, looking up at the shelves. She’d been on her way back into the living room with after-dinner coffee when she’d paused at the threshold. Shane steps toward the armoire, coming up behind Ilya and curling both arms around his waist. “Um, trophies from when I was a kid. Like, minor hockey leagues and tournaments and stuff.” Ilya moves his head from left to right slowly, scanning the array of trophies and medals on the shelf. “Is big business? Making meaningless awards for tiny hockey players?” “They aren’t meaningless,” Shane protests, but he sounds a little sheepish. “Yes, I’m sure the…” Ilya leans in close to read the plaque on one trophy, “‘Sportsmanship Award’ for the U7 Snowflake Classic was very prestigious.” Shane rolls his eyes, but he’s laughing. “They don’t have awards like this in Russia?” Or: Yuna bonds with Ilya, one plastic trophy at a time.
