the trials and tribulations of love languages by moonlightdances
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2026-01-12
Every single example online of the love languages could fit Ilya to some degree – Shane had never thought about it before, but now that he knew, it was a problem that he didn’t know Ilya’s. He already wasn’t fluent in Russian, despite his attempt at learning, and he refused to be behind on another of Ilya’s languages. Shane looked down at Ilya, still passed out asleep in his arms, and nodded to himself, ready to run a series of experiments until he found what worked for Ilya.

“You looked so fucking pretty tonight, Hollander. In that big jersey, with that backwards hat. Wanted to bend you over in front of all your friends and fuck you untill you cried.” Shane whimpers, hands grasping at the car seat beneath him. “Please, Ilya. Touch me. Need you.” Ilya pulls his own shirt up over his head and then pauses. Has an idea. “Get in the back seat, sweetheart.”

The moment they were off the ice, there were so many insults hurled his way that he felt like he couldn’t breathe. "We need to put you back in the closet, Hollander. You’re clearly no good now that you’re out of it." OR Shane Hollander literally gets put back in the closet. Also I can’t stop writing angst and this came to me.

The Part We’re Still Figuring Out by Icyhot_Kem
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2026-01-12
“Come on, Shane don’t be like this.” “Be like what exactly?” Shane found himself biting out, already regretting the answer the moment the words left his mouth. Hayden groaned, the sound of his tired exhale hanging in the air as he dropped his greasy bag of fast food onto the nightstand. With a soft rustle of sheets, he settled onto the edge of the bed. Shane could feel his eyes on him, though he was still facing away, not being able to bring himself to meet Hayden’s eyes just yet. “Look, I’m just not used to it yet, alright?” Hayden’s voice was low, edged with frustration. “Can you blame me? We used to talk shit about him all the time, and now I’m just supposed to... what? Like Rozanov?” -- Or: Despite the dinner with Hayden eventually ending with an apology, and some sort of truce between Hayden and Ilya, Shane is still struggling.

Amber, still asleep on his chest, makes an unhappy noise. Jacki sticks her head through the door and says, “Swear jar!” She shakes her head. “How’s Shane?” Getting a blowjob from Ilya Rozanov, Hayden doesn’t say, because that sentence can’t exist in reality. “Good. He says he’s—feeling good.” It sure sounds like he’s feeling good. Jacki nods. “Is he back with Boston Lily now that he and Rose Landry broke up?” “What?” A horrible thought occurs to Hayden. “I was just thinking, next time she comes up to Montreal for a game, we should have them over.” “Comes up to Montreal?” Hayden’s palms are a little sweaty. He wonders if this is what having a panic attack feels like. “I mean.” Jacki smiles at him like he’s very stupid. “You always tell me Shane is busy after home games against Boston. I assume he’s with her.”

“It’s one of your superstitions, right?” Hayden asked. “Like my hat. It’s your good luck shirt.” Shane felt a chill run down his spine. He hadn’t thought anyone would notice. In truth, he’d barely noticed himself. It wasn’t something he was actively doing. It wasn’t like his weight circuit or his diet or his night routine. It wasn’t meditation or yoga or cross-training. Those were all things he did with meticulous, painstaking purpose. This was just… this was something else. This wasn’t thought driven. If he was being honest, it barely had to do with hockey. It maybe was one of the only things in his life that didn’t have to do with hockey. If he was stressed, he wore the shirt and it made him feel a little bit better. It just so happened that most of the time he was stressed about something to do with hockey. That was it. It was just a feeling. A feeling of calm that came from Ilya Rozanov’s shirt. OR: Shane accidentally wore Ilya's shirt back to the hotel after it things started to feel Too Real. What if he kept the shirt? A squawk, followed by an incensed, “Jesus! It’s Hayden! Hayden Pike! Shane’s best friend? A guy you’ve played against for years?” Oh. This is… not good. Ilya very slowly lowers himself down on the bed, spine straight. “Why are you calling?” Pike huffs. “Trust me, I don’t want to be.” “Okay, then, why? How do you know… Lily?” A beat. Then, “You’re Lily.” Protectiveness rears its ugly head. Severely, Ilya declares, “This is none of your fucking concern.” “He’s asking for you.” OR: when Shane gets hurt on the ice, Hayden Pike reaches out to Boston Lily.

What they lost (and what Ottawa gained) by mssarahx
Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid, Heated Rivalry (TV)
2026-01-11
Montreal tried to get Shane Hollander back. Shane and Ilya laughed, stayed married, and won anyway. Montreal realizes they want Shane Hollander back the same way people usually realize irreversible things: too late, through a screenshot, with a sense of dread they can’t quite justify. The photo is innocuous. Shane and Ilya in Ottawa, post-practice, arms slung around each other, Shane mid-laugh like happiness is no longer something he has to ration. Someone captions it culture matters. The replies are feral. Ilya notices first. “They follow you again,” he says mildly, scrolling. Shane squints at his phone. “Who?” “Montreal.” Shane blinks then barks out a laughs, “Oh my god. That’s hilarious.” They don’t start with a call or an apology or an acknowledgment of Shane's contribution. No, they start with interest; Likes on old photos, A vague article about unfinished business, A beat reporter using the word homecoming like it hasn’t already been poisoned. They don't come to Shane first, they go to the press, like they think peer pressure will make the offer taste sweeter. Shane reads headlines aloud like he’s doing a dramatic reading. “‘Sources say the organization has grown,’” he says. “Grown what? Regret?” Ilya hums. “They grow desperate.” The first email arrives a few days later. Shane opens it, reads one sentence, and hands his phone to Ilya. “They miss my leadership.” Ilya scrolls. “Do they miss apologizing?” “Nope.” “Then,” Ilya says, handing the phone back, “they miss the wrong thing.” Montreal escalates to an alarming degree. If Shane didn't know better, he'd think they actually wanted him back and not just the cup's he provided for them. Private calls, followed by carefully worded leaks, culminating in a handwritten letter that arrives in Ottawa like it expects gratitude. Shane opens it at the kitchen counter and dissolves into laughter. “They offered you the bigger closet,” he gasps. Ilya blinks. “They think I am movable.” “They think shelving fixes homophobia,” Shane wheezes. “I’m obsessed with how bad this is.” Ilya folds the letter neatly and drops it into recycling. “We are very happy,” he says calmly. “Somewhere else.” Ottawa, for their part, does not flinch. They know what they have and they know how to protect their own. They don't issue statements, no grovelling post's declaring how much they love Shane, they don't advertise that Shane's happy with them, they just let the fact's speak for themselves. They simply let him exist—loud, married, joyful—and the contrast does the work for them. Montreal’s locker room, however, implodes. Voyagers Group Chat: Jean-Luc: Ok, so this is officially bad right? Marc: This feels worse than bad Luc: The internet is calling it “aggressive flirting” Antoine: They sent him a LETTER Jean-Luc: I don’t get why he won’t even talk to management Hayden: Because the last time he talked, they told him to make his marriage disappear. Marc: That’s not how it was meant— Hayden: It’s how it landed. Antoine: They say they’ve changed Hayden: Did they apologize? Luc: …
