“You are offending an invalid.” “You’re not an invalid,” Shane replies, slight exasperation bleeding into his voice. There’s probably panic in it, too. He elects not to think about it. “You’ll be fine. You’ll go to rehab, you’ll play, and the plan will stay intact. Okay? Charity, Ottawa, and us.” “Charity, Ottawa, and us,” Ilya repeats dutifully, head lolling on the pillow so he can get a better look at Shane’s face. The repetition soothes something in him. They are words that Shane has repeated enough that the edges have been smoothed into something blunt. Charity, Ottawa, and us. “Sit, Shane.” or: early into the year where they both still play for their respective teams, ilya suffers a crash on the ice

Ilya would tear the world apart, if it came to it, if Shane asked it of him. He’d lay down at Shane’s feet and rip his own heart out to give it to Shane, trust him to treat it tenderly. If the gods exist, that Shane is Ilya's is probably proof of it

Should he grieve Boston? Probably. Loyalty was important, thank you very much, Yuna Hollander — but perhaps that wasn’t what this situation was. Boston felt like a stopping point for Ilya. Neutral ground, his saving grace, fresh off the plane from Moscow, finally separated from his family by an ocean they couldn’t afford to cross, not without his help. He was grateful to the city, to the Raiders and their fans, truly, deeply, but he owed them nothing. He owed Shane Hollander everything and more. (Or, Ilya at the cottage, and his final year in Boston.)

the law of loving others by xiaomaomii
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2026-01-01
There are footsteps outside, a nurse probably, so Ilya readies himself for goodbye. It’s too soon. Too soon. How am I meant to leave him here? Bruised, without wrapping him up in that navy weighted blanket he likes. Without feeding him his stupid, regimented rabbit diet and his ginger ale? Without teasing him about his neatness habits and about the singular pass he missed in that game we played against each other years ago? Without kissing him all over–his cheeks, his lips, his eyelids, across his chest, and the curve of his spine. His scapula, where his wings must be hiding. Angel Hollander. Boring Hollander. Beautiful Hollander. That’s all he is, beautiful. Ilya’s chest feels full to bursting. If his heart were a machine, it would destroy him, and then the world, with love. OR, Shane gets hurt on the ice. Ilya does not take it well. He thinks, and thinks, and thinks.

“Did you like them? My parents?” Ilya squints at him. “I love them,” he says simply, like it should be obvious. “They’re your parents.” But, Shane thinks idly, there's a difference, isn't there, between loving them and liking them? (5 times Shane thinks Ilya doesn't like his parents and 1 time he finds out the truth)

“So,” Hayden asks, “do you only date girls named after flowers, or?” Shane blushes as he buttons his shirt. “Fuck off,” he says, without much venom, which probably means his meeting with Lily went way better than last time. (Hayden Pike attempts to solve the mystery of Boston Lily.)

Ilya doesn’t even realize when Arthur slips from his thoughts. There’s no sharp turn, no clear moment where the article stops being about a little boy who loves reptiles and starts being about the man lying beside him in bed. It just… happens. The way his mind always seems to find Shane eventually, like water finding its lowest point. — a character study on shane’s undiagnosed autism

It’s maple-something. Sugar, shaped like leaves and it makes him smile a little. Shane would hate it, tease him about his lack of a “performance diet” like that means anything, and he would lick the taste off of Ilya's lips, which really, is all that’s needed to cement the fact that he needs this candy. It is also so painfully Canadian. Russia at least does bear. They are cooler, objectively. Maple leaves are boring. 5+1 where Ilya rather likes Canadian gas stations. Shane only likes the coffee.

"We could have some fun tonight. You, wearing my clothes…” “Shut up,” Shane says, annoyed by the thrill the words send through him. Life would be so much easier if he wasn’t wrapped around Ilya Rozanov’s finger—or fingers is probably more accurate. Til They Retire Your Number by technicallyverycowboy
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2025-12-31
They lapse back into a comfortable silence. Shane looks at Ilya as he is and thinks about Ilya as he was at seventeen, smoking in the back of a Saskatchewan parking lot. The image is almost unbearably tender for Shane, where his own seventeen year old thrill at seeing Ilya Rozanov meets all the things Shane knows about that lonely boy now. Shane thinks: Do you love number 81 more than you love this man? "Hey," Ilya says, brushing his knuckles over Shane's cheek. "Whatever I do, I will be there when you come home." Ilya decides to retire. Shane is very normal about it.

It is as if he cannot bear to have his eyes on her while the words come, “Mom. I need you to know that I did really try.” To the ground, to the soil, he confesses, “I tried really hard. But I just can’t help it. I’m sorry.” Shane apologises for something that could never, ever be wrong. While his hands tremble in hers, Yuna reflects on all the little moments that led them here.

He’s not alone—hardly ever is, in Boston. But maybe, just maybe, he’s lonely. It sneaks up on him in stupid moments: standing in line at the bank, catching a ride with Connors after practice, because he doesn’t have a car yet. Lying awake at night with the low hum of traffic outside and the wrong kind of silence pressing in around him. In his rookie year, Ilya makes an anonymous online friend. Unfortunately, it's a terrible idea.

During his weeks at the cottage the only people Shane usually had to interact with were his parents, and it was always so—nice. Such a relief. To not have to be a person, for a couple of weeks. Or, at least, to not have to be the kind of person other people seemed to think that he was, or that a hockey player was, or that a hockey player had to be. It wasn’t just about pretending he was straight. Sometimes, despite doing his best to ignore the jabs, Shane was forced to confront the fact that he really did often feel like a robot, and that the cottage was— for lack of better phrasing—his recharge time. And now—now Ilya was here. And Shane knew how to kiss him, how to play against him, how to be fucked by him, but there was no rulebook for this. -- shane does not like change. he does not like shifts in the status quo. he also honestly doesn't really like when people are in his house. however. shane does like ilya. maybe enough that none of that matters.

Ilya’s soulmate seems to care a lot, about some very, very, specific things. Ilya tries to imagine what it’d be like to be on the receiving end of that kind of focus, that intensity. He thinks of Hollander staring him down during their last face-off. Hollander had looked like he wanted to rip Ilya’s stick from his hands and beat him with it. It was kind of hot, if Ilya’s being honest. It was even hotter when Hollander won the face-off. Christ. Ilya really needs to stop fucking thinking about Shane Hollander. or: ilya rozanov has been ready to meet his soulmate since he was ten. he thinks it'd be great if they also got the memo, because he’s running out of space to keep all their ginger ale.
