“Where is my baby?” Ilya asks as soon as he opens the door to the Pikes’ SUV when it pulls into the parking lot of Christ Church Cathedral.
“Lovely to see you too, Rozanov,” Hayden says as he opens his car door.
“Hi, Hayden,” Shane says from behind Ilya. “Lovely to see you. Please ignore my husband.”
Ilya can’t even be bothered to snark back at either of them, because today is his big day.
Well, mostly. It’s sort of Amber’s day, too, he guesses, and kind of Shane’s as well if one were to look at it from a very specific angle, but mostly it’s Ilya’s.
And as Amber gives him a cheesy grin when she sees him (a new development as of the last couple of weeks), Ilya knows even his boring husband and his boring husband’s loser best friend can’t ruin this perfect day.
Because today, Ilya’s becoming a godfather.

This moment had to be treasured one way or another, and he was already looking forward to the moment Shane would see this once the anesthesia wore off. “Not a nurse. Your husband of 3 years, Ilya.” “Husband??” Shane almost got up excitingly, which led to the nurse having to calm him down a bit. “Oh my god nurse, I hit the jackpot! Look how handsome my husband is!”. Or: Shane gets in an accident on the ice and goes under for surgery. Ilya is absolutely unprepared once he wakes up.

Ilya’s eyebrows shot up. “Are you hurt?” He asked, halfway across the kitchen already. Shane shook his head, getting up and away from Ilya before he could touch him. “I’m fine, just overstretched yesterday.” It was a big fat lie, and both of them knew it. Ilya, obviously, caught on to it. “You don’t overstretch.” He was following Shane to the fridge. The panic inside of Shane rose until his whole body felt like a live wire. New tactic. Think. Think. Think… “It was a new yoga position,” he blurted out. He knew how much Ilya liked to watch him do yoga, that would most likely distract him enough for Shane to leave. He had a plan, damn it. OR Shane gets a tattoo and doesn't want to show Ilya (yet).

Shane doesn’t like social media. For one, he’s so used to shoving his private life so deep in the closet that it can’t see the light of day, but also, he’s a naturally private person, and the thought of letting people see any part of what keeps him stable and going–it scares him. So mostly, his social media accounts are run by his mom and his social media team, mostly ads and sponsorships and sharing Metros posts and information from the Irina Foundation. Every once in a blue moon, it’s something truly him, the cottage or him and Hayden and JJ, a yoga mat (a tuna melt, a coke, a loon at the cottage). And then, just like that (and one ill-timed Fanmail video), his carefully curated private world implodes, and while picking up the pieces, he decides he’s done. He has this amazing life, this amazing boyfriend (fiancé!), and he wants the world to know at least a piece of it because he and Ilya deserve to finally be openly in love.
