During the 'easier' episodes Ilya can manage. Usually he can gather enough strength to get out of bed, even if it's just to slouch around the cottage or outside. He'll eat whatever Shane puts in front of him. He'll put on a brave face when Yuna and Dave come over to visit. And then when the evening rolls around he's so exhausted he falls asleep around eight. The 'heavy' episodes are harder. Ilya will spend most of the day sleeping. He will eat small bites of whatever Shane gives him, sometimes nothing at all. Showering is out of the question. If it's a particular bad episode, he won't even leave the bed. Shane is scared to leave Ilya alone during the 'heavy' episodes. He knows Ilya wouldn't hurt himself on purpose. But he also knows that depression is very complex and sneaks up on their victims when they're most vulnerable. Or, Ilya experiences a bad depression episode. Shane is there to catch him when he falls.

“Why are you calling me, Hollander?” Ilya asks more harshly than he means to. But he’s tired, and impatient, and strung out on a mixture of emotions and longing for the voice on the other end of the phone. “If nothing is wrong, why are you calling?”
“Will you come?” Shane asks, and Ilya’s heart sinks before he can even say the rest of it. He shouldn’t have asked. He should have just let Shane ramble. “To…to the wedding?”
The lump in his throat feels insurmountable. But he manages to say, “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
Shane doesn’t acknowledge it. “I invited alllll these people, but the only one I actually care if they come or not is you.” He stops and giggles. “Isn’t that weird?”
“Yes,” Ilya replies, because it is. You shouldn’t want your years-long situationship at your wedding. He doesn’t want the drunken musings of Shane Hollander to give him hope.

Ilya hasn't seen Shane in a few weeks, since he ran out of Ilya's house after he called him by his name. It sucks, but Ilya's mostly handling it. He's mostly handling it until they end up at some stupid MHL banquet thing and he sees Shane smiling with some girl at the bar. Shane's embarrassed, was overwhelmed by Ilya calling him his name because they didn't do that. And he didn't handle it great, and maybe dating a girl right after wasn't the move, but Shane was stressed. He and Rose broke up, because she realized he was gay and Shane felt sort of like an ass even though she said they could still be friends. And he was dealing with it, sort of, mostly he was just trying to avoid it. Until his coach told him he had to be at a banquet and he saw Ilya across the room, then he was drinking a nasty tasting red wine and trying not to look his way. OR Shane and Ilya haven't talked since Shane ran out of Ilya's apartment, neither of them is planning on talking either, until Shane gets roofied at some official MHL banquet and Ilya takes care of him.
