Ilya shifted the conversation to his upcoming game against Boston, promising to send Svetlana the details of the post-game bar the team decided to visit that night. Shane listened halfheartedly, his own mind working too hard to focus fully on the conversation happening around him. He was so used to being on the other side of the conflict, the side that Ilya resided in now. He thought of the dinners assuring his friends of Ilya’s tender heartedness hidden behind blunt humor amidst gentle scolding and good natured laughter. His stomach twisted, wondering if Ilya felt a similar way when he just couldn’t click with Shane’s friends off the bat. In the past he had little trouble getting along with others, but every time Svetlana’s gaze shifted to him he felt the weight of her judgement. or, A year into playing for Ottawa, Ilya introduces Shane to Svetlana. When he's hospitalized a week later, the two form an unexpected bond waiting for him to wake up.

Shane pulled out the vodka handle, wiping the dust off. He stared at it for a long moment. Shane rarely drank hard liquor. It made his head spin and his stomach uncomfortable, wasn’t worth all the extra calories. Wasn’t even really meant to drink on his meds, but. It would make him feel worse. It would make him feel like absolute shit. And that was exactly what Shane was counting on. So he had stumbled over to the bathroom, flipped on the dim overhead light, sunk to the bathroom floor, and drank. or: shane hollander gets super drunk on the bathroom floor after a really bad few days. it is not fun for anyone involved, but luckily ilya is there to pick up the pieces

Women flock to Rozanov; he’s the gravitational centre in every room. Shane gets it. He’s felt it, the shark pull of his orbit. He’s been swallowed up into the belly of desire. What he doesn’t get is how easy it is for Rozanov. Even with Shane’s teammates pooled around him on the dance floor his hands get clammy when a girl in a sequined skirt makes a move on him. Shane used to think maybe he was just awkward; maybe he needed a couple of beers in him to loosen up, but he couldn’t do that during the season. Then Ilya Rozanov kissed him and the craving was so clear in Shane’s mind he was able to visualise every sharp edge of it, and he knew he wanted to be on his knees. 2013. It’s been two years since he and Rozanov hooked up in Nashville and exchanged phone numbers. It’s a month till Boston comes to Montreal and Rozanov’s promise of ‘next time’ could go into fulfilment. Shane Hollander wants to play hockey. He wants to play it well. The other thing is a thing he cannot allow himself to want.

Honestly, it was a miracle they had won the Cup this past season, with how divided the team had become. And it was no one’s fault but his own, Shane thought. That’s why he had been so determined to win. To prove himself. To earn back his teammates' respect. To fix the divide. If that meant more pressure on himself, stricter dieting, more workouts, more time spent at the rink, ignoring quips and small acts of defiance against him, playing through any pain or illness, then he had decided that’s what he would do.

After practice, in the locker room, JJ had checked his phone with a strange look on his face. He stared at it so intensely, like he was trying to look at something very small. And then his eyes widened, and he shouted what the fuck so loud that everybody turned to look.
“Dude, what the fuck yourself,” Hayden laughed, and swiped JJ’s phone off the floor before anyone else could get it first. And he saw—well. At first, he wasn’t sure what he was looking at. And then he saw Ilya fucking Rozanov pissing all over his best friend’s chest, and, well. What the fuck was he supposed to do with that?

Stepping off of the plane, Ilya was still surprised that he made it here. His father was never fond of North American hockey leagues, but Ilya was determined to play junior hockey in Canada.
He spotted his billet family - Yuna and David Hollander, who he would be living with for the next eight months, along with Shane Hollander, his new teammate.
He knew of the famous active OHL players, and Shane Hollander was certainly one of them, but Ilya wasn’t prepared for freckles and beautiful eyes.

The league sends out a notice at the end of the 2018 All Stars game in Tampa that there's a measles outbreak. Shane isn't too concerned since he knows that he's up to date on all his childhood vaccines, and, he assumes, everyone else in the MHL is as well. So he thinks nothing of it when Ilya calls him a few hours after landing in Boston to say he thinks he's coming down with a cold.

Those small moments. Moments in daily life that seem mundane remind Ilya of his past, I stare at the house you were brought up in All the photographs and door frames are wooden I wish I'd known you when you were younger Before lovers 'Cause I've changed my accent And I gave a false name I hope I throw a party In a house of my own someday When you were a kid You'd come in through the back gate Your folks left a light on In case you get home late would like to formally apologise for the emotional distress I have caused with this fic,
