Ilya's used to long winters. He longs for the sun. He finds it. (Featuring: an Ilya-centric introspection of his depression, husbands-in-therapy, and a LOT of trite metaphors) -- Ilya’s life consisted in a series of more: first, from his father, who had wanted more success; then Alexei, who had wanted more money. More sucked him, it drained him dry, it left Ilya a walking carcass of flesh and bone and feet fit enough only to skate hockey, and only because it is the only tool with which he could be filled so he could supply more. Ilya’s been empty long ago. Life consisted of moments threaded by the need for survival. Food. Water. Hockey for money. Sex. Vodka. He’s pawed at the hole within him, deep in his chest, and wonders if there is still a soul there. Perhaps he’d given it all, just as they’d asked. Perhaps the little he had left was a mercy. There is no enough as far as Ilya was concerned; it was only the greedy chants of more. Ilya often wonders if his mother wasted away because she had given all of herself. He wonders if he’s taken from her, too.

JJ patted Hayden on the back when the video sprung from the collision to Hayden's punches. Honestly he was pretty impressed with himself. He was able to get a few good swings at Marlow in before the refs separated them- but that wasn’t important right now. He could feel good about it after he knew Shane was okay. Besides, for some reason Hayden wasn’t focused on his form while punching. He didn't even notice the rest of his teammates' fighting for Shanes honor. For some reason his gaze lingered on Rozanov. Rozanov who looked pained at Shane crumpling. Rozanov who seemed scared for his rival. Rozanov who wore his heart on his sleeve while skating up to Shane. Did Hayden get punched so hard he started seeing things? - Or, Hayden starts putting together the puzzle of Ilya Rozanov while on his way to the hospital to visit Shane. Too bad he has no idea that Shane Hollander is also a part of this puzzle.

The beer slips from his fingers. It shatters, foam splashing his shoes, glass skittering away. His knees give out like someone kicked him, and his hands shoot forward to hold himself upright. His left palm lands in broken glass, though he doesn't feel it. What he notices is the certainty that everyone sees, that they can smell him—something sour and wrong. His scent, despite patches and care, has turned exposed. OR: What if we took the club scene from episode 4 and had Shane collapse from experiencing Omega Rejection Syndrome after seeing Ilya dancing with someone else?
