The Swiss National League doesn’t care about the legendary Hollander-Rozanov rivalry. When the MLH can’t negotiate with the Hockey Players’ Union in time to prevent a hockey lockout at the start of the 2015 season, the Zürich Lions jump at the chance to sign both Shane and Ilya to short-term contracts. For four months in Switzerland, they share a team, a line, a house, and a bed.
Then the lockout ends in January, and it’s time to go back. Back to different countries, cities, lives. Beds.
Reentry is harder than expected.

Troy’s grin turned sharp and mischievous. “Alright then,” he spoke up. “New bet.”
“No.” Ilya groaned. “Why is everything always a bet?”
“Because you hate losing,” Wyatt answered as if it was obvious.
Troy clapped his hands together. “Okay, so,” he started, his eyes gleaming. “Rozanov has to get Shane Hollander to fall in love with him.”
Ilya stared at him, his brain’s processing lagging half a second behind. “You think you are jokester, yes? You are joking.”

“Fuck.” Shane melted into the strong hand at his neck, the pressure over his throat and the heat of the Alpha’s palm. “Fuck, that’s–” his eyes started to flutter closed, his knees going weak, but he heard the Alpha huff a laugh and immediately stiffened again.
“Don’t do that.” he warned. “Don’t laugh like me letting you put your hand on my throat is predictable submissive Omega behavior and you're making fun of me."
“That is not why i was laughing.” Ilya squeezed Shane’s throat lightly, his thumb pressing over the suppressant patch covering the Omega's bonding spot and blocking his sweet scent. “I thought you would fight it, fight submitting. But you didn’t.”
“No I–” Shane swallowed hard. “I like it.”
“Good.” Ilya smiled slow and a little dangerous, running his tongue over his bottom lip and then over the sharp ends of his fangs before he leaned in and growled into the Omega’s ear. “Now get on your knees.”

***
or: After Vegas, Ilya knows he should end it with Hollander. He likes trouble, yes. Doesn’t mean he likes feeling scraped raw by wanting impossible things. “Yes, sweetheart. I’m here.” She tries to school her voice into something neutral, something that hadn’t been up all night, pacing Shane’s luxury hardwoods. The place felt haunted without him, not just empty—but expectant. Ginger ale and coke in the fridge, four pieces of salmon marinating in lemon and thyme. There’d been condoms on his nightstand. And lubricant—which was good, wasn’t it? He obviously cared about his partner. Or partners, David had said, unhelpfully. ~~ Or: Yuna visits Shane in the hospital.
