Plentiful, but Ultimately Finite (rewrite available in notes) by broccolicheddarchicken
Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2025-02-08
Canada had given him his life as he knew it, but it had never felt one hundred percent comfortable, either. He missed Russia sometimes, but it didn’t have the thing that mattered most. Ilya had exactly one home, and it was this: his face pressed into a smooth chest, his head tucked under a strong jaw, with freckled arms wrapped around him and delicate fingers combing through his hair. Anywhere else was a temporary excursion. A treatise on second (and third) languages, homesickness, acceptance, Shane's struggle learning Russian, and the things people do when they care.

Their waitress is kind enough to let Shane practice his clumsy Spanish with her. He pointedly does not look at Ilya after ordering, but he's known him long enough to know when he's laughing at Shane's expense. “I hate you,” he says. “No,” Ilya says. He looks unfairly handsome in a linen beach shirt and his flamingo-patterned board shorts Shane bought him last summer. “You do not.” - (it's the honeymoon fic)

Harris organises a team field trip to a cabane à sucre — sugar shack — to gather content for the Ottawa Centaurs’ social media. Ilya doesn’t understand why Canadians are so obsessed with maple syrup, but Shane is there to make the weird cultural experience more memorable.

Casey knew that the rookie reporter was gonna get pulled from the room about halfway through his question. She almost felt kind of bad, she’d just assumed that he’d had The Talk, and maybe she should have taken it upon herself to check in with him. There was one very specific rule that all Ottawa Centaurs reporters had to follow:
Never pit the Hollander-Rozanovs against each other.

“Nervous? But you’ve done hockey camps like this before haven’t you?” “It’s not the hockey camp, I’m excited for that. I’m nervous about the whole staying at Shane and Rozanov’s house thing.” “Why?” his husband asks turning his head briefly to look at Scott with a furrowed brow. “Because I don’t know either of them that well even though we went to their wedding. Them being together at all is still a little weird to me. It’s like they’re letting me into their super-secret love nest or something.” Or the one where Scott stays at Shane & Ilya's while coaching the Ottawa hockey camp.

No Rest For The Winner by Anonymous
Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid, Heated Rivalry (TV)

After another devastating loss for the Ottawa Centaurs, Shane chooses Ilya as the forfeit for the winner's room. Which would be fine if it weren’t for Ottawa's policy that everyone, even the captain, has to be supervised to make sure nothing gets out of hand.

With a thunk the puck slams home, a series of loud clanks following as it slides back into its resting spot. Shane growls and throws his arms into the air in frustration. Fuck. “I thought you were good at hockey, Hollander,” Ilya drawls, his tone dripping with smug amusement. He unfurls his long frame, standing tall and crossing his arms over his broad chest. His eyes sparkle wickedly, belying the angelic effect created by the dark curls falling into his eyes and the white cable knit sweater that Yuna gave him last Christmas. He looks fucking beautiful. “Ice hockey, asshole. Not this air hockey shit.”

Ilya Rozanov Gets Railed by Anonymous
Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid, Heated Rivalry (TV)

“You didn’t like it the last time we tried it,” Shane said.
Ilya gave a one-shouldered shrug. “Was years ago. Maybe it is an acquired taste, like licorice.”
“You also don’t like licorice,” Shane pointed out.
“Yes, but I keep trying it because Luca likes it so much.”
“And then you make a face and tell him how awful it is.”
“When have I ever told you your dick is awful?” Ilya said, looking mildly offended. “I am its number one fan.”

“So,” Shane said, after another minute. “Welcome to Montreal.”
Ilya just started laughing, his body shaking against Shane’s.
“Do not tell me you prepare for all your home games this way,” he said.
“I shouldn’t have prepared for any home games this way,” Shane said, glancing at the clock by the bed. He should go, but he couldn’t make himself.
