“First, I ravish you,” Ilya murmurs, his lips brushing Shane’s bruised ribs, sending goosebumps rippling across his skin. “Apologize for injury I gave.” Shane’s breath hitches as Ilya’s hand slides down his body toward his ass. He can barely breathe when that rough fingertip brushes his hole, and it’s not because of the bruised ribs. “And then?” he asks, voice breathless. Ilya looks up, eyes dark and heavy with desire. He presses one final kiss to the marred skin before digging his fingers deeper into Shane’s skin, making him gasp. “And then, I give you new bruises. Better ones to remind you of me.” or; Ilya feels bad for being rough with Shane on ice… Shane, on the other hand, is kinda into it.

Centuries pass, nations rise and fall, names change, but Ilya remembers.
--
Hasegawa Shigeru opened his mouth to reply, but Ilya was lost.
No longer warm, an icy wind cut through rough clothes to bite at the patches of skin that he’d bared to the elements. White snow and black, tall trees. A man trudged beside him, his hood up, his feet sure in the snow. He turned and smiled and Ilya’s heart tipped over with love. Hasegawa Shigeru. It was Shigeru, but dressed in clothing in a style much older than those Ilya had worn on his own shores, but still undoubtedly home.
Shigeru spoke to him, but not in a language he knew. Old words and old clothes, and an old love, so deep that it brought tears to Ilya’s eyes.

You Call and I Come (Running) by Kelethin
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid

“Hello?” Ilya prodded. “Are you there? I thought you were supposed to be polite Canadian boy.” A breath of laughter sounded in his ear and Ilya perked up despite himself even if he did beat down his grin with sheer force of will. “Are you drunk? You drank without me and now you miss me. Very sad for you.” “I—" Ilya’s smile dropped in an instant and his feet hit the carpet as he vaulted off the bed. Something was wrong. Hollander sounded wrong. “Hollander, what is wrong?” Ilya demanded and listened hard. Then he heard it. Shaky inhales and even shakier exhales that made his stomach drop to the floor. “I need—" Hollander’s voice broke as he took in a pained breath. He was in pain. Ilya started scrambling for his shoes. “Talk to me, Hollander.” _____________ Shane calls Ilya for help after sustaining a concussion and Ilya comes running.

We didn't even kiss. He stared at the message for a moment further, the words blurred from his unshed tears, before violently shaking his head to clear it and pressing his thumb on the delete button. Except that's not what he did. Shane watched in horror as the message went from just a draft to something he actually sent. He sent it. He sent it. OR Instead of deleting the message in episode 2, Shane accidentaly sends it, prompting an entirely different ending to the entire scene.

[fond] adj. : have an affection or liking for someone “I love our friends, but after a certain point all I want is to get away from everything and just come home to you. With you. Whatever, as long as it's just-” he let out a big yawn, eyes fluttering shut, “just us. That's home.” He whispered, nuzzling in closer. Ilya watched the slowing of Shane's breath, the rise and fall of his chest, the way his eyelashes caressed his cheeks and felt that warmth again, spreading from his finger tips to his toes, coiling through his stomach and taking root in his heart. This overwhelming fondness. He was so in love with this man, and he thought about how right Shane was, even as sleep was pulling him under, the way he could understand Ilya's emotions and put a name to them even when Ilya didn't know it himself. Everything was almost perfect. The Centaurs were already having their best season in two decades, Shane had fit right in and was killing it on the ice, Ilya was married to the love of his life, and they finally didn't need to hide anymore. And yet…there was one thing standing in the way of perfection, and Ilya was trying very hard not to think about it too much in case it gave him a heart attack. Shane had been playing for the Centaurs, in Ottawa, with Ilya, for six weeks now and he still hadn't moved in. The summer had gone the way it always had. They spent all of it at the cottage, commuting to the camp together. Ilya had waited, wondering if Shane was going to take a weekend while their time was their own and bring his stuff up from Montreal, but he hadn't. He hadn't talked about it at all. Ilya had asked, when the first day of pretraining arrived, if they needed to go to Montreal first and Shane had just said, "Nah," eyes fixed on a text to Rose. They'd driven to Ottawa and Shane had slipped in Ilya's space like he always did, any time he visited. A routine came about naturally: practices, workouts, taking Anya for a walk, cuddling in front of the TV, fucking Shane's brains out. But time slipped away and Ilya abruptly realized a month and a half had gone by and Shane still hadn't moved in. He couldn't think of a way to ask about it that didn't sound accusatory. They'd lived apart for their entire relationship. The summers at the cottage were wonderful but they were frantic and stolen and fraught as well. And last summer, their first one out, had been almost entirely absorbed by wedding planning and running the camp. They'd never done this before - coming home to each other every night after practice and waking up together every morning before a game. Ilya couldn't help thinking…maybe it was too much for Shane. Maybe it was too much of Ilya's chaos for Shane's perfection. Maybe he was keeping one foot planted firmly in Montreal because he wasn't sure yet if he wanted to be here full time. So Ilya tried to make Shane feel welcome in quiet ways. "I moved the chest over so you could put a desk there," he said, as soon as Shane came home from his run. God, he looked delicious, all sweaty and pink-cheeked. "Hmm?" "I have my office upstairs but you do not, so I thought you could put a desk here." "Oh. Yeah? I don't think so. I only really need a desk in the summer and I have my office at camp for that. I'm fine with my laptop." Shane pressed a kiss to Ilya's cheek. "Did you have breakfast yet?" Ilya frowned at Shane's retreating back. "No, not yet." "Okay, I'll make eggs." ** A few days later, Ilya tried again. "We need more towels. I make you come so much you take many showers." Shane rolled his eyes. "Yeah, it has nothing to do with us both being professional athletes who work out for a living." "We need more sheets, too. Is that also an athlete thing?" "Shut up." "Which ones should we get? We could go shopping." Ilya felt like an idiot, sitting there like a lost puppy, hoping his husband would suggest a trip to Home Sense, as if that would mean something. But Shane just shrugged. "You can just order more of what you already have. I like the green ones." "Right, okay." What you already have. Cause they were Ilya's towels, and Ilya's sheets. And Shane was just a guest. Still. ** "We could get a new place?" Shane chewed on the end of his pen, eyes rolling up from his notebook to meet Ilya's. He frowned, confused. "Like another cottage?" "No, a different house. Leave this one." "You want to move?" Ilya shrugged. "Not really. But we could pick out somewhere new. We are married now." "I like it here. It's an easy drive to the arena. Plus I wouldn't want to uproot Anya." Shane scratched her behind her ears and she stretched out long. "Alright. You know I am happy to move for you, right?" He'd already moved all the way to fucking Canada for Shane, so that felt like a stupid thing to say. "I know." Shane yawned and tucked his toes under Ilya's thigh. "Think Coach will have us working on the PK tomorrow?" Ilya rubbed his thumb over the jut of Shane's ankle. "Yes, I think so." **

God, Shane looked good. He fiddled with the straw in his boring ginger ale as the objectively gorgeous redheaded woman beside him spoke animatedly. Ilya could tell he was feigning interest in both her and her topic of choice, despite her stilettos leaving him eye level with one very perky (plastic, perhaps?) set of tits. He huffed the tiniest of laughs to himself as he leant against the bar. That Shane believed he could keep up a facade of heterosexuality without even sparing a glance for that rack was outrageous. Everything about him, from his freckles to how his offensive game to how he moaned was beyond outrageous. A figure moved towards Shane, who looked up, into the other man's eyes, and beamed. A proper smile, a broad one, where white teeth sparkled and eyes shone. Fuck. ~ Ilya gets the wrong idea of an interaction at the gala. Cue jealousy, very publicly crossed wires, and one VERY happy Shane Hollander at the end of the night.

“So,” Ilya starts, drumming his fingers on his knees. “You want tuna melt when we get home?” “What?” Shane says, distracted. “We just had dinner.” “Yes,” Ilya says. “But you had children’s portion.” Shane sends him an incredulous look. “I had two servings.” “Of baby food.” “Ilya.” “Shane.” Shane sighs. “Can we not do this? Please.” Unfortunately for Shane, they must do this. Or: Shane's restrictive eating versus Hayden Pike and Ilya Rozanov.

He was alone because Ilya had left because Ilya always had to leave. [...] He felt horrible. Ilya had left. Maybe Shane hadn’t been good enough? No, he would’ve left anyway. He always left.
But maybe he would’ve stayed a little longer if Shane had been better? Maybe if he’d been better, used more of those tricks he’d been trying to learn, he wouldn’t have left so soon. Maybe he would’ve wanted to stay like Shane wanted him to stay. Would’ve wanted to hold him like Shane wanted to ask him to do. Maybe Shane wouldn’t be trapped in this cavernous space between worlds, feeling like he was free-falling, searching for the path out of this emptiness.
