  1. Harris organises a team field trip to a cabane à sucre — sugar shack — to gather content for the Ottawa Centaurs’ social media. Ilya doesn’t understand why Canadians are so obsessed with maple syrup, but Shane is there to make the weird cultural experience more memorable.

  3. Shane and Ilya host a Halloween party the first year that Shane is a Centaur. Just them being in love and hanging out with the team. “Hollander. You can't go as a hockey player, you are a hockey player.” Ilya said with an eye roll when he walked in on his husband getting dressed in their bathroom. “First of all, I can go as whatever I want. There are no rules to Halloween. Second of all, I am not a hockey player. I am going as Ilya Rozanov.” Shane smirked before their eyes met in the mirror and Shane's smirk morphed into a genuine smile. He grabbed the Boston jersey that Ilya was just now noticing draped over the chair for the vanity. It had Ilya's old number on it, but instead of Rozanov on the back it said “Second Best Center.” “Shane Hollanov! Are you making a joke?! I thought you were boring. And you are making a joke.” Ilya was giddy with excitement. He loved playful Shane. “No.” Shane gave Ilya's cheek a kiss. “No joke. Just me, going as my husband, the second best center in the league.” Ilya moved away from Shane. If he continued to make physical contact he would not be able to get dressed and the team was going to start arriving at their house for the party soon. He grabbed his own costume, this year he was going as a detective. He liked being known as perceptive. “We will see who is second best. I am on the first line, captain and leading the league in overall points.” “Yes, well I have been on this team for four months and I am already the leading goal scorer. So, we’ll see who is second best at the end of the season.” They grinned at each other. When Shane joined Ottawa, Ilya had worried that being on the same team would mean they would have less opportunities to compete. They fell in love through competing, and he loved when they got to play against each other. He didn't want to lose that. But, he had worried for nothing. Turns out, being on the same team meant even more chances to compete. They scrimmaged against each other several times a week and battled it out in cardio and weight training. In fact, it's a good thing they had been practicing keeping hockey and their relationship separate for more than ten years, because there might be even more tension between them now that they were competing for the same ice time. Being married had not changed either of their drives to be the best. After they both finished dressing, and made their way downstairs, Shane turned towards Ilya with a glimmer of mischief in his eyes. “What, you're not going to post our picture to Instagram? You're always trying to get me to take photos with you. But now that I am in this awesome costume suddenly you don't want to? Worried your fans will agree that you're second best?” Oh. Now it was on. Ilya took two pictures, one of them together, facing the camera and smiling sweetly. And one of the back of Shane's jersey. He almost didn't want to post it because Shane's skater’s ass looked too good and he wanted to keep it for himself. But, there was a contest to win. He posted both pictures to Instagram with the caption “Who is second best?” He put the phone away and kissed his husband. They would let the fans fight it out while they enjoyed the party. After everyone had arrived, Ilya found himself dancing in the middle of the makeshift dance floor - surrounded by beautiful women, and his teammates who were also beautiful. He was maybe a bit high. It felt a lot like last year, but this time when he saw his teammates dancing with their partners, he didn't feel alone. He glanced up at his husband who was chatting with Harris and waved him over. Shane smiled shyly, said something to Harris and walked towards Ilya. “Hi.” Shane said when he folded himself into Ilya's arms. “Hi,” Ilya replied as he wrapped Shane in tightly. “We have danced together more in the four months since our wedding than in the ten years before. I like it.” Shane grinned at Ilya. “You just like touching me.” “Is nice” Ilya said as his hands moved down to Shane's ass. Shane slapped his hand away. “Not here!” He hissed. “Shane. No one is watching. It's fine.” Ilya's eyes glimmered with playful heat. “Nope. No way. We are out but not that out.” “Fine. Fine.” “Do you want to get some air? Someone started the fire pit.” Shane said. Ilya nodded and Shane grabbed his hand to guid them outside. _ When they got to the outdoor seating area surrounding the fire pit Shane noticed that there weren't any seats left. Lisa stood up and moved into Wyatt's lap and Ilya took her spot. Ilya gestured for Shane to sit on his lap but Shane was not sure about this. They were out, and they held hands in public. But sitting on each other's laps? That was a lot of PDA. Like a lot. But, this was their team. The Centaurs had been nothing but supportive. And if Lisa and Wyatt could do it, why couldn't they? Indecision must have been evident on his face because Bood spoke. “Roz, your husband won't sit on your lap? He thinks he will crush you?” Ilya scoffed and looked at Shane with love in his warm eyes but that crooked smile that always meant trouble had made an appearance. “Hollander is so small. Claims to be 5’10, He's almost as short as Barrett.” “I am 5’10! And I am not small. You guys are the worst. Ilya, why don't you sit on my lap.”

  4. Hayden and his family visit Ilya & Shane at their cottage. The dinging of the doorbell rang through the cottage. "Must be Hayden!" Shane said happily. Ilya sighed. "We could have had Harris and Chiron, but instead we have Hayden." He was a little wistful at the thought of two dogs to play with. They made their way downstairs, followed by Anya, barking happily. "The Pikes could only come the week before Labour Day," Shane reminded Ilya. "Troy and Harris can come anytime before training camp. You'll have your Chiron cuddles soon." The doorbell rang and rang. Someone must be leaning on it, Ilya thought, as he rushed a bit more to get to the door. The Pikes were weirdly impatient. He opened the door to a frantic-looking Jackie. That was surprising; from the times he had met her, she was usually calm and steady. "Where's the washroom?" Jackie asked, Amber on her hip, Jade and Ruby holding onto an elbow each. (Arthur hiding just behind.) "I'll show you," Shane offered, leading the pack of them off to a quick tour of the bathrooms of the house. (Just as well there were a number of them.) Hayden groaned, recalling Ilya's attention to the door. "Do you need the bathroom too?" Ilya asked. Though this was what Hayden usually sounded like. Hayden gave him a look. "I'm fine," Hayden managed in reasonable tones. "I can't believe I agreed to this," he muttered, heading back towards the car. "Would you like a hand with the luggage?" Ilya called after him. Hayden made a resigned shrug, which Ilya took as a 'yes, please help me.' He was looking forward to this visit (despite his complaints to Shane) and all the entertainment it would provide. Especially all the time with the kids. Following Hayden to the back of the minivan, he scooped up an armload of bags and carried them inside. (Anya helped by following on Ilya's heels.) Shane was waiting by the door, looking at him with a pleased smile. Ilya set down the bags in a heap in the living room and made a beeline for Shane. "So, you like it when I'm on my best behaviour?" Shane nodded and pulled Ilya close. Ilya pushed him against a wall and kissed him deeply. His ass felt amazing under his hands. He scooped him up and held him higher against the wall, as Shane wrapped his legs around him. "Ugh, my eyes!" Hayden said. "Seriously! I'm right here!!" Hayden must've come back inside again. Oh well, it's not like it was a surprise that Ilya would kiss his husband. Surely Hayden would get used to it. Ilya spent a little longer kissing Shane, until Hayden slammed the door, leaving again. God, Shane's hair was so lovely, silky black hair starting to hide his face, it was getting so long. Ilya ran a hand through Shane's hair, just enjoying it. "You guys are still at it?!" Ilya hadn't even noticed the door opening again. Shane was very distracting. Ilya pulled away from Shane and looked at Hayden. "When two people marry, it is because they love each other very much and like to do things like kiss. I'm sorry you haven't had experience with--" Hayden cut him off. "Obviously I've had experience! I'm married to Jackie, asshole!" Ilya pulled away from Shane and shrugged. Hayden did seem awfully uncomfortable with physical touch for someone who was happily married, four kids notwithstanding. (And really, all those kids meant was that they'd had sex at least four times. Wait, there were twins, so three times really. A fluke, even.) "Hayden!" Shane spoke up. "You promised! Ilya's been behaving so well and you're behaving like a dick!" From behind Shane's back, Ilya smirked at Hayden. This behaving well thing was hilarious. He'd definitely need to keep this up. "I'll just go grab some more things," Ilya said, and headed out the door. The trunk had been emptied out; there were just some things among the booster seats and carseat. Grabbing Chompy, a stuffed giraffe of unknown name, and a few dolls, Ilya headed back inside. He arrived just as Jackie came back in, trailing children. "Oh, Ilya," Jackie said. "You're such a help. Thanks for unloading our stuff for us." Hayden made a disbelieving noise behind him and started disagreeing with this. "Really, Hayden?" Jackie said. "Show a better example for the kids." Hayden looked up at Ilya. "Thanks," he said flatly. Ilya smiled. Hayden to tease, kids to play with, and Jackie to join in adult conversations with him and Shane. This would be a great week. Ilya and Shane woke up to the sound of a crash. Oh right, kids in the house. Ilya groaned and pulled Shane closer. He got a kiss, but then Shane slithered out of his arms and went to grab clothes. Apparently it was time to get up. They made their way downstairs and said good morning to everyone. "Who wants pancakes and tater tots?" Ilya asked, to a chorus of yeses. Shane made a face, but managed to keep his mouth shut. He was less stringent now about his diet, but still pickier than Ilya.

I’m nervous about the whole staying at Shane and Rozanov’s house thing.” “Why?” his husband asks turning his head briefly to look at Scott with a furrowed brow. “Because I don’t know either of them that well even though we went to their wedding. 17. Shane is on nurse duty after Ilya's macho stunts Shane was holding Ilya's face still with his left hand while he used a gauze soaked in iodine to attend the cut on his husband's cheek with his other hand. His husband was lucky the cheekbone wasn't broken or splintered. However, Ilya seemed more mad about the fact that a Montreal player had hit him first than about the ijury itself. "Fucking Comeau" his husband mumbled. Shane flinched. Gilbert Comeau was one of the few Montreal players he had considered a friend during his time with the Voyageurs, but then he had turned his back on Shane the moment they'd been outed. Shane had even sent him an invitation to the wedding, but Gilbert hadn't bothered attending. It still stung, being let down so spectacularly but so many people that had been in close proximity to him for over ten years, but it was what it was and Shane was at peace with how things had went down. After all, he had Ilya forever. It's been almost three years since Shane had married the love of his life and had been drafted by Ottawa. During that time, the only other Montreal player -besides Hayden and J. J., his actual friends- who had reached out to him to apologize and sort of try to reconnect had been Patrice Drapeau. Not that they had been particularly close during their time on the same team, but it was nice to stand in a good place with one another. "You should drop it" he commented. Ilya grumbled before saying "I do not know what you are accusing me of" and crossing his arms. Shane took a step back to stare at his husband sitting on the border of the bathtub on their en- suite bathroom with his legs spread to make place for him. Ilya had taken a stick to the face and because of it he had gotten a nasty cut and a rainbow of reds, purples, and blacks on the left side of his face. Despite having been treated right away by their medical staff, Shane like taking care of his man at home. He was kinda worried about how red the sclera of the eye on that side had gotten, though. "Oh, really? So you don't have a personal vendetta against Montreal? I must be imagining things, then" Shane discarded the used gauze and picked a new, clean one. "Vendetta is-" "-putting it lightly?" he iterrupted "You got the whole team on board, Ilya" "Moy-" "I hate how things happened too, baby" he was back into his former position between Ilya's legs holding his face up "But it's in the past. And we're together now, all the time" he kissed his husband on the forehead "And we're the current Stanley Cup Champions. You need to let it go" "They do not deserve my let go" Ilya put his hands on Shane's hips, staring right up at him "I know you can fight your battles, Shane, but I want to fight those assholes for you" Shane walked away from Ilya once more, this time to grab the ointment their doctor had suggested from the cabinet. "Besides, is not like you can say you do not find it hot" Shane groaned and hit his head against the cabinet, repeatedly. He couldn't even argue with that: against his better judgment, he did find Ilya's macho stunts hot. "Hot or not" he stood looking at his husband with his hands on his hips, trying to go for a stern looking pose from across the bathroom "You've got to stop. It's not worth it" Ilya sighed. "Okay, I will not pick up more fights with them" "Make sure to pass that same massage to the others" Shane got in front of his husband again and statred carefully apllying the ointment "And text Hayden to apologize, he didn't deserve that right hook" "It was not for him! I already told him!" Ilya protested. ~~ The following day Ilya did facetime Hayden to apologize. After all, he was his husband's bestfriend and their nieces & nephew's father; and, no matter how much he and Ilya didn't exactly get along most of the time, he had been a good friend to both Shane and himself all this time. He only wished that not every one of his actions would be dissected and analyzed as part of his sexuality by the media. Ilya missed a pass from Shane? Marital problems. Shane skipped a game for a minor injury? Headed to divorce. Ilya got into a fight? Shane was going to leave him for that. And now that he had (accidentally!) hit his husband's besfriend square on the jaw... "Rumor has it that Rozanov not only has never forgiven Pike's incident with that infamous fanvideo from a couple of years ago," stated the sports commentator on the TV "but he also is extremely jealous of his husband's close relationship with his former teammate and long- time friend from the Voyageurs. This comment has been going around for quite a while so it's hard to not think about the possibility of Hollander having been involved with Pi-"

  19. Mo, the comedian, is interviewed next. “Look, I don’t think I’m going to win. I know at home on camera my torte probably looked alright, but it tasted awful.” He laughed at himself. “Ilya’s was ok, actually. He said he was going to make it for his husband since Shane doesn’t like sweets apparently. I couldn’t do that, my wife would divorce me citing incompetence.” *** the Great British Bake Off fic no one asked for “Stop telling Rose that I’m practicing!” Ilya huffed as he pulled out some white chocolate maple blondies from the oven. Shane, who was sat across the kitchen island laughed and turned off his phone. “I’m only doing it to psych her out.” Ilya levelled him a look that told Shane he didn’t believe him. “Give me one, anyways. This looks like the first batch you haven’t burnt.” “You have to wait until they are cooled.” Shane laughed at that, trying to take Ilya seriously as he wore Centaurs’ kitchen apron. He also had a brush of sugar against his cheek Shane quite wanted to lick. “Now, I need to practice decorating. I will not have Paul Hollywood telling me my blondies are boring.” Ilya was practicing because he had been asked to participate in the Stand Up to Cancer celebrity Great British Bake Off. Their family had recently been shook by David’s cancer diagnosis, but after a single surgery and a round of chemotherapy, he had been in remission for two years. Ilya, had taken it harder than Shane would have expected, but he had also thrown himself into advocacy for cancer prevention, even having a colonoscopy on camera. (Harris told Shane that it may have been his most traumatizing day at work yet. Shane told him he was lucky that Ilya was sedated and didn’t hear that or else he would take that as a challenge.) Ilya had thrown himself into practicing once he had been given the briefs for the signature and show-stopper challenge. The Centaurs had enjoyed eating baked goods when Shane brought them in, knowing that Ilya would eat them all and then complain about feeling sick if they were left at home. Ilya and Shane were flying to London tomorrow, taking advantage of the All-Star break to film. They would spend a couple days exploring London before heading to the iconic Bake Off tent. Rose had gotten them into the show, which made it even better since she was one of the other celebrities that Ilya was competing against. Also in the tent was an old boy band member and a comedian. Ilya was extremely excited. In the run up to the show airing, since Ilya and Rose could not torment Shane in the same room, they’d decided to make things hard for him on twitter and instagram instead. He had posted an instagram picture of Ilya and Rose from set that was given as part of their promotional packages, as well as a picture of Shane, Ilya, and his Dad. @shanehollanderhockeyplayer After dad’s diagnosis, we learned a lot about the state of cancer research. There is still so much work that needs to be done. In support of this, my husband and my best friend are heading to the UK to raise money in aid of cancer research. Tune in on Sunday to watch @Rozanov81 and @RoseLandry try to bake the best cake #StandUpToCancer #SU2C Since, Rose and Ilya had been teasing each other at Shane’s expense. @Rozanov81 @RoseLandry i hope you have learned how to bake cause maybe you could bake yourself a partner @RoseLandry I don’t have to poison my colleagues with underbaked cakes to be the best in my field, unlike @Rozanov81 @RoseLandry maybe if @Rozanov81 spent less time baking then @shanehollanderhockeyplayer wouldn’t have won MVP last year The tweets stopped once Shane shared a screenshot of their group chat. Ilya: Why didn’t my cake rise? Rose: Did you whip your eggs long enough? Ilya: I just added them in with the flour Ilya: Shane said it would be fine Rose: Your mistake was listening to Shane for tips about cakes After #ShaneDoesntEatCake trended, Ilya posted a picture of Shane eating a slice of one of his practice bakes to his stories: @Rozanov81 Shane eating my cake! Ready for #SU2C *** The episode aired two months later on a Sunday night at the beginning of April. Rose was supposed to make the trip up to Ottawa for the viewing party Ilya was hosting, but her filming schedule did not allow it. Instead, several members of the Centaurs were over at Shane and Ilya’s house to watch it. Ilya had gone all out, recreating the various dishes he’d made on the show to reveal to their guests at each stage in the competition as it aired. Already eaten (Bood made use of the Hollander-Rozanov BBQ), the team gathered around the sectional sofa. The show started with Ilya, Rose, ex-boybander (Tyler), and the comedian (Mo) walking into the tent. Ilya had the station on the front left and Rose was right behind him. Zane whooped and the other boys cheered. Rose appeared on the television. “I think I have a good chance to win. I’m the only girl here so I think I have something to prove. I do want to beat Ilya more than anyone. Either way, we
