Everyone Needs Ilya by frizzyanya
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2026-01-01
In the Cottage (episode 6), after David sees Shane and Ilya, Ilya offers to accompany Shane to talk to his parents. We know that having him there helps Shane through it. But it also probably helped Yuna. If Shane showed up alone to have that conversation, it might have been a little bit harder for Yuna to believe it was all real. This is that AU.

Still, Ilya's breath catches.“Oh.” He says like he’s just been handed something precious. “You’re perfect.” Or, Shane had been learning Russian the whole time.

"And so, like, Roz is never at these things?" Barrett had asked. "Well, he's come once or twice." Bood had answered, a thoughtful face on. "We always invite him, though I know at this point he's going to be busy." "But what's he doing?" Barrett asked, his face crunched up. "It's an Ottawa Centaurs mystery." Harris was sitting next to Barrett and was grinning at him as he elaborated. "Just like how NHL star Ilya Rozanov gets traded, willingly and by his own choice, to Ottawa and yet, no one knows why he chose the team." Or The Ottawa Centaurs have their own theories about what their captain gets up to in his free time. Wyatt Hayes organizes a bet about it. If only getting an answer out of Rozanov would be easy.

”Let’s dance.” And yeah. Okay. Shane wasn’t really a good dancer and didn’t really even like it. He couldn’t really hold a beat, but tonight he wanted to try it out with Ilya. Because he knew Ilya was always there to catch him, no matter what. ”Really. You wanna dance?” Ilya laughed, but took a hold of Shane’s hips as they swayed to the music ”, You say you’re terrible at it. And that you don’t enjoy it.” ”Yeah, well. This night is full of surprises.” Shane answered. Or: Shane’s first time going to a gay club after him and Ilya’s relationship comes public. Dancing and sex.

Ilya holds Amber in his arms and looks seriously into her tiny eyes. She giggles appreciatively at him. At the end of the hall, he can see Pike trying not to let his dismay show. Ilya enjoys holding the baby nearly as much as he enjoys the discomfort building on Pike’s face as he watches them. She hasn’t managed words quite yet, but they’re close. “Ro za nov,” he says, trying to get Amber to repeat it back. She is a happy baby, born to a perfect family. He hopes her whole life will be as happy and boring as this. Ilya and Shane babysit the Pike kids for New Year's.

There’s Lily, Shane’s Boston girl, but Hayden has no idea her number, where she lives, or what she looks like. She’ll have no way of finding Shane, of being there when he wakes up high and afraid, because he never did well with being out of control. Lily won’t be there. His parents won’t be there. It’s the easiest decision he’s ever made. Hayden skates off the rink, barely pausing as he starts stripping off his gear. Coach surges forward, lips curled up with some order to get back out there, no doubt. He doesn’t give him the chance, “I’m not leaving him. I go where he goes.” And that’s that. - Or, Shane doesn’t wake up so easily and Hayden Pike somehow ends up taking care of Ilya Rozanov. (Jackie does the heavy lifting; he’s just there for the ride and realizations.)

Weird. or High on pain meds after his injury, Shane entrusts his phone to Hayden to answer his texts and tell everyone he's okay. Hayden looks up and catches sight of Shane, thumbs hooked in his belt loops to leave the logo on his chest clear. “No. Shane. No. Get out.” “You like it?” “Please, please tell me that’s not—” Shane spins to show off the back. “Authentic.” “No,” Hayden says, drawing out the word plaintively. “In my house?” Shane wears Ilya's jersey to watch the game at Hayden's.

Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov both need one thing to live their dreams of playing for the NHL: a mating bite. Shane's an omega, and the League doesn't allow unmated omegas to play hockey. Ilya's a Russian alpha, who needs a mate to get a U.S. visa. Their slightly harebrained solution? Bite each other, and let the unfinished bond fade. After five years of stupid texts, awkward heat-care packages, and dancing around their feelings, the bond still hasn't faded and ignoring it has become impossible—something's got to give. -- Contains spoilers for those who have only watched the show, and for The Long Game. A/B/O AU that very loosely follows canon. Happy ending!

“Ilya?” Shane said in that same dreamy, loopy voice as that morning. Ilya exhaled in a rush. “Shane,” he said, and wanted to sag against the glass with relief. “What happened? Is something wrong?” “Not! Any moooooooore.” Ilya swallowed. Shane hadn’t gotten any quieter in the past seven hours. “Why are you calling me? You need to be resting,” he said, and it sounded softer than he’d meant it to. “I forgot to tell you something. Important.” “You should not be telling me anything, you should be—” “My cottage has really good water pressure,” Shane announced. Ilya stared out the window while a small plane taxied past. “What?” —————— Shane's cottage has a lot of amenities, and he needs to tell Ilya about all of them.
