“Ilya!” Yuna smiled and spread her arms wide open, waiting by her car. She went on her tip toes to kiss his cheek when he approached, and gave him a warm look. “Perfect. Let’s go!” She drove nothing like Shane. She was a fast, confident driver, overtaking cars at the most unexpected moments. Ilya found himself unknowingly white-knuckling the door handle and his seatbelt, eyes wide. “We need the essentials for dinner, obviously,” she began, barely glancing at the road as she merged aggressively. “But then we need new plates and a tablecloth. Last year, David tripped over our cousin’s dog – it’s a Newfoundland, a huge beast – and well, there went the wine, the food, and my favorite linens. You should have seen it! Absolute chaos. Anyway, the boys are at home decorating the tree, and I’ve tasked Shane with deep-cleaning the bathroom, so...” She spoke with such rapid-fire energy that Ilya could only stare at her, puzzled and impressed. Then, she laughed, and for a split second, her face transformed into the exact expression Shane would wear in moments like this. It was the first real confirmation that she was, indeed, his mother.

A Very Hollander Christmas. by bearprofessor
Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid, Heated Rivalry (TV)
2025-12-24
Ilya was never the biggest fan of Christmas presents, since it was always a competition of how much money you could spend on proving you loved each other more. When Ilya and Shane (and Anya) start to spend Christmas Day with Shane's very sentimental gift-giving parents, Ilya changes his mind about gifts in general. Typical fluff ensues.

We don't hate him anymore? by Willtheartist
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2025-12-24
slight canon divergence au where Shane's parents find out he's gay and seeing Ilya because of Shane's lack of filter at the hospital due to the painkillers he's on Extract: “Ilya was here,” he smiled again. “Yes, honey. I know. They told us. What do you want from Rozanov?” Shane threw his head back, staring at the ceiling, “him.” Before she could ask Shane what on earth he was talking about, he shifted on the bed again and continued, “Always. Ilya.” “We were supposed to meet after the game!” he whined. “But, fucking Marlow, ugh-” he gesticulated with his uninjured hand, “aaaand now I won’t be able to play… and I won’t see him.” Shane’s adorable pout was not nearly cute enough to distract her from… whatever was happening. “You’re… Rozanov? You- you and… Rozanov are… friends?” she raised an eyebrow. “And you hang out after games? Since when?”

Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid

Ilya was down again. This happened every year, every month even - Shane knew this. He expected it. Sometimes, he saw it coming beforehand. He’d notice a vacant look in Ilya’s eyes, dishes left unwashed, little lapses in Ilya’s daily routine that most people would brush aside but that Shane knew meant he’d need to be a little more “on” than he normally was. Sometimes, though, Shane didn’t see it coming. Sometimes, out of nowhere, he’d interact with Ilya and Ilya would just be - well, he’d be there, but he’d be gone. Yuna and David are in Moscow when they stumble upon Ilya's mother's grave.

The resemblance hit Yuna like a punch to the gut. The same honey-colored curls, though hers were styled in a gorgeous twist at the back of her head. If Yuna could see past all of the times Ilya’s nose had been broken and re-healed, she imagined it would look something like the woman’s in front of her. And those eyes - a mix of hazel and gold with tiny flecks of green if you looked close enough. Ilya must have gotten his strong jaw from his father, because this woman’s features were narrow and sharp. Stunning.
When she smiled, it looked so like Ilya’s that Yuna could have cried.
“Irina,” she said.
“Yuna,” Irina said, bowing her head politely.
