    He's in the middle of untying his skates when the visitor's locker room attendant comes in. Shane's used to it, the attendant coming in and calling out whoever'd been chosen for the winner's room. He's also used to ignoring it, because rookies aren't eligible to be chosen, not really, or to go to the room at all. Shane's certainly never been offered a pick, even when he'd scored the game-winner. Not that he would go, even if he had been offered the winner's room. So it takes him a minute to realize that the room's gone quiet around him, and that Drapeau, only halfway out of his pads, is standing up near the doorway. "No," Drapeau is saying. "Hollander's a rookie. Off-limits."

    “You two. You’re like- together?” Drapeau asked, his eyes flickering between the two of them.

    “Christ, I’m gonna be sick.” Hayden said faintly.

    Shane’s head reared back and Rozanov immediately stood. “Then fucking leave, Pike.”

    Hayden realised what he’d said and held his hands up, a look of panic on his face. “No. No, I didn’t mean- Shane I’m fine with you being gay, I swear-“

    Rozanov rolled his eyes. “Someone give this man a medal-“

    And so Shane steps into the Voyageurs' locker room, Luca on his heels, leaving the door open just a crack so Ilya and the others can hear what's going on. The room goes quiet immediately, all faces turning to Shane in shock. Hayden's the first to react, scrambling up from his stall, eyes wide. "Shane? What's going on?" "I just wanted to see if any of you were willing to talk? So quiet on the ice today. I thought you'd have things to say to me, all things considered." Shane sweeps his gaze over his former team, uses his disappointed-Captain-voice and feels a smidge of smugness when it clearly hits them as it always has.
