christmas at the cottage by evansbuck_ley
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid

Ilya feels breathless as he walks into the cottage. The living room is a magic, Christmas wonderland. The lights covering the cottage cast a warm, golden hue all around, beams are covered in tinsel and garland. The tree is so big and beautiful, standing tall in the corner of the living room. The fireplace has been lit and is burning hot, the soft sound crackling of wood filling the air. He can’t help but think about the first time he walked into this cottage and how much has changed since then. Back then, when it was just Shane’s cottage. When it was a place where they came to hide, to finally love each other the way they both so desperately been craving for years. Now, it is their home. aka a cottage fic, just a few years down the road The drive to the cottage is long. So boring and long. It doesn’t help that there is a thick blanket of snow covering the roads and Shane is driving ten miles under the limit. Ilya can practically feel the anxiety radiating from his body, by the way his shoulders are tense and how hard he is gripping the wheel. “You drive like grandma. We would be there by now if you put foot down.” Ilya jokes from the back seat. Shane’s eyes briefly shift to the mirror so he can shoot daggers at his husband before turning his attention back to the road. “I’m being careful. We have precious cargo in the car.” Ilya rolls his eyes and smiles fondly. Because he is right, there is precious cargo in the car. And said precious cargo is too busy watching the snow flakes fall from the sky through the window — giggling and babbling away to herself as her father tries his best to not freak out in the driver seat. “Your papa, he worry for no reason. Isn’t that right, Iris.” Ilya says gently as he taps his daughter on her nose. Her soft button nose with speckles of freckles covering the bridge. So beautiful just like her father. Iris Hollander-Rozanov, 9 months old and the light of Ilya’s life. She is practically Shane’s twin, soft dark hair and twinkly wide eyes — not that Ilya is complaining. She rolls her head so she is looking up at Ilya now rather than out of the window. A smile spreads across her face, gummy and bright as she reaches up to press her chubby fingers into his cheeks. He lets out a soft gasp and Shane momentarily whips his head around. “What? Is she okay? Do I need to pull over?” “She’s fine. Eyes on road.” Shane huffs as he turns back round, his shoulders hitching up closer to his ears. “Sorry, I just-“ “I know,” Ilya cuts him off, because he does know. Shane has been freaking about this trip for nearly a month now. Getting himself worked up over the what if ’s and worse case scenario’s. He is an over-thinker, has always been. So naturally, when they became parents, his anxiety increased by 1000%. “Is okay. Only ten minutes until we are at the cottage.” Ilya says softly as he leans forward, reaching to rest his hand on Shane’s shoulder. He brushes his thumb over the soft skin of his neck and the tension begins to melt away. “I bet is looking very Christmassy.” He changes the subject as he leans back to sit more comfortably. Iris is still quietly babbling away beside him as she grabs for his finger. “Yeah, mom said she has gone all out. She wanted to make Iris’s first Christmas extra special.” Shane replies with a smile. It would be extra special, Ilya thinks. They don’t really come by the cottage during the winter, there really isn’t much point when the lake is frozen over. But Yuna thought it would be nice for them all to get away for a few days, to be able to celebrate together as a family in private — which both Shane and Ilya agreed easily.

It’s worse these days—his reaction to Shane looking at him or being in his presence. Ilya thinks it’s just his body’s natural reaction to Shane, but recently Shane's hair has been littered with graying strands and Ilya finds it harder and harder not to drop to his knees every time Shane enters a room. - Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander love each other, love their daughter, and thank all heavens that Svetlana Vetrova is in their lives.

David Hollander loves Instagram. Ilya showed it to him one night while he was having dinner with them, specifically posts from the Foundation and the camps, and it somehow led to David setting up his own account. For the most part, it’s dinner and Yuna and sometimes Shane, but there are also pieces of Ilya there: a completed puzzle, chicken parmesan, ice cream. David can’t post Ilya, obviously, but he wants Ilya to look at his account and know that he’s there, too. When the video comes out, and the boys are thrown into a chaos they don’t deserve, some selfish part of David is relieved because now the entire world can know how much David– how much all the Hollanders–love Ilya Rozanov. Or: Five posts David Hollander makes about Ilya, and one time Ilya returns the favor.

Max stands, pacing again, and says, “I mean, what do I do? I can’t tell them I know now. It’s way too late for that.” “It’s really okay,” Troy says far too optimistically. “It’s not that big of a deal.” “Yeah, you can say that because you're not the one who heard Ilya tell Shane he misses his slutty little mouth." Or: The Centaurs' newest rookie speaks Russian. It's too bad that Shane and Ilya don't know that. Read in Russian here!

He’d known that this thing between them - this thing that he wasn’t allowed to want, but couldn’t ever imagine giving up - was already so much more than it was ever supposed to be. But when he’d left Ilya’s hotel room that night, with his heart still racing and his thighs still shaking, all he could think about was that they hadn’t even kissed. Not once.

Casey knew that the rookie reporter was gonna get pulled from the room about halfway through his question. She almost felt kind of bad, she’d just assumed that he’d had The Talk, and maybe she should have taken it upon herself to check in with him. There was one very specific rule that all Ottawa Centaurs reporters had to follow:
Never pit the Hollander-Rozanovs against each other.
