Ilya and Shane wake up together the morning of their wedding Shane woke to the soft hush of sunlight filtering through the curtains and the heavy, familiar weight of Ilya wrapped around him like a second blanket. This wasn’t just any morning. This was the morning. A huge smile bloomed across his face before he even opened his eyes. His heart was thudding, butterflies fluttering. He felt like a teenager again, like his entire body was vibrating with joy and nerves and love. Today, he was marrying Ilya Rozanov. His Ilya. His best friend. His chaos. His comfort. His person. It still didn’t feel real. He stayed still for a moment, soaking it in — the warmth of Ilya’s body, the scratch of his stubble against Shane’s neck, the steady rhythm of his breathing. Then came the softest press of lips to his skin. “Morning, sweetheart,” Ilya mumbled, voice rough with sleep. Shane smiled so hard his cheeks hurt. He turned over to face his fiancé, whose bedhead and crooked grin made Shane’s chest feel too small for his heart. “It’s our wedding day,” Shane whispered, barely containing his joy. “Mmm,” Ilya hummed, leaning in to kiss him. Shane didn’t even care about morning breath. Didn’t care that they both probably looked a mess. He kissed Ilya back, eager and laughing into it — until Ilya pulled away, eyes mischievous. “Hold that thought,” he said, rolling out of bed and padding naked to the closet. Shane propped himself up on one elbow, still grinning, watching him curiously. Ilya returned with a small wrapped box in one hand and an envelope in the other. He sat beside Shane and held them out like offerings. “For you. On our special day. I can't wait to marry you — in front of our friends, family…” He smirked. “And Hayden.” Shane laughed, heart aching with affection. He felt so full. So grateful. So ready. “I got you something too,” he said, cheeks pink. He reached into the drawer beside the bed and pulled out his own small box and envelope, pressing them into Ilya’s hands. “I… I'm not always the best gift giver, but I’m really excited about this one.” They exchanged their boxes first. Ilya unwrapped his with the enthusiasm of a kid on Christmas morning. Inside: a pair of polished gold cufflinks engraved with a small, elegant S&I. He went quiet for a moment, studying them with reverence. “I love them,” he said softly. “I’m wearing them tonight. Thank you, sweetheart.” Shane flushed, biting his lip. He opened Ilya’s box next — and blinked in surprise. A sleek, gleaming Rolex nestled in the velvet lining. He gaped. “I’ve never owned one of these,” he said, stunned. “Turn it over,” Ilya prompted, almost giddy. Shane flipped it. There, engraved in Russian, was the simple phrase: To my beloved. — Your husband. His throat tightened instantly. “Ilya…” “Check the envelope,” Ilya said, voice gentle now. Shane reached for it, grabbing his glasses from the nightstand to read. The moment he saw the header, he froze. The deed to the house in Ottawa. Their house. The one they’d been building a life in. And now, his name was on it — right there, in ink. “Ilya,” he said, blinking rapidly. “You—this is…” “This is our home,” Ilya said. “Where we live. Where we make memories. Where I get to annoy you until we’re old and grey.” Shane gave him a watery smile and leaned forward, brushing their lips together in a tender, tear-slicked kiss. “Thank you. I can’t wait to keep building our life here. Together.” Ilya wiped a thumb under Shane’s eye. “You’re crying.” “You started it.” “Fair.” Shane nudged Ilya’s envelope toward him. “Your turn.” Ilya waggled his eyebrows dramatically, teasing about it being coupons for sex, before carefully opening it. Inside: the deed to Shane’s lakeside cottage — the place Shane had

“So.” Shane started, he huffed a shy little laugh and found it odd, why was he being this way? “Sooo?” Ilya drawled and began to saunter over to his husband. Shane took a step back when Ilya neared him. Ilya didn’t stop, and Shane ended up pressed against the door. “How exhausted are you?” Ilya asked, and Shane noticed the tell-tale smirk. “Not at all. You?” Ilya shook his head in response, “Nope.” His hands slid up the door, caging Shane in, which made him swallow thickly. “I want to make love to you tonight, Hollander.” Shane’s entire body buzzed with anticipation and joy. “But first…do you want more cake?” Shane swooped in to kiss him, because he just needed to, or else he’d burst, “Yes. Cake. Then come ravage me.”

A post-workout quickie makes them late for team dinner. Ilya’s fine. Shane is glowing. So is their server—who apparently didn’t get the memo that Shane is very, very taken. They were fifteen minutes late to team dinner. Technically, it wasn’t Ilya’s fault. Not really. Sure, Shane had been the one doing his usual post-skate stretch in their home gym—but those tiny, low-slung shorts, the ones that cupped his ass like they were tailored by the gods? That had been entirely premeditated. Shane had definitely been showing off. Ilya, being a good husband, had responded in kind. One thing led to another—specifically, Shane on his back next to a rack of dumbbells—and then a not-at-all quick shower followed. So yes. They were late. Shane was stressed. But he also had that flushed, post-orgasm glow that made Ilya want to drag him right back home again. They arrived at the restaurant slightly breathless, hand-in-hand. The rest of the Centaurs were already seated, drinks in hand, and Bood was the first to comment. “Well, well. We thought you two weren’t gonna make it. You’ve got… a glow.” Shane turned a deep shade of red. Ilya just smirked. But the smirk faded fast. Because as they scanned the long table, they realized something was off. There weren’t any seats left beside each other. The team always saved them two spots together. Always. Shane hesitated, subtle panic flashing across his face. He didn’t like being late. He didn’t like being separated. He definitely didn’t like the uncertainty of having to choose a new seat mid- social interaction. Wyatt, across from them, was already halfway to his feet. “I can move.” Ilya started to wave him off. “No, no. It’s fine. We’re capable of sitting apart,” he said with mock dramatics, shooting Shane a teasing look. “Even if my husband is boring without me.” Shane gave him a annoyed look. He ended up sliding into the open seat between Wyatt and Troy. Ilya took a spot a few chairs down between Dykstra and Bood, not thrilled, but willing to play it cool. Until the server arrived. He was young. Polished. Friendly. And apparently unaware that Shane Hollander was both married and extremely taken. Ilya watched with narrowed eyes as the guy lingered a little too long when taking Shane’s drink order, smiling a little too widely, his hand resting just a little too casually on the back of Shane’s chair. Shane, being Shane, was utterly oblivious. “Could I get a root beer?” Shane asked, polite as ever. “Absolutely,” the server replied, voice warm. “And if you think of anything else you want… just let me know. Anything at all.” He winked at Shane. Ilya blinked. Dykstra choked on his water. Shane didn’t even flinch, already turning to ask Wyatt something about the appetizer menu. By the time the server returned for entrée orders, the energy was unmistakable. He leaned toward Shane again. “Still deciding?” the server asked, voice dropping into something close to a purr. He leaned in, eyes fixed on Shane. “No pressure. Take all the time you need. I’m not going anywhere.” He muttered—slow, deliberate. “Unless you want me to.” Shane smiled politely, completely unaware. “I’ll have the salmon, please.” The server jotted it down, but didn’t move right away—his gaze lingered just a second too long before he finally turned and walked off. Wyatt shot Ilya a look across the table. Bood looked like he was trying not to laugh. Even Troy glanced at Ilya and mouthed, Yikes. Ilya stood up. “Wyatt,” he said calmly, “trade seats with me.” Wyatt didn’t even hesitate. As Ilya made his way around the table, the conversations quieted just a bit. Not a lot. Just enough. Ilya slid into the seat next to Shane, reached under the table to pull Shane’s chair closer, and laced their fingers together on the tabletop for everyone—including their overly friendly server—to see. Shane blinked down at their joined hands, then looked at Ilya. “What’s going on?” Troy snorted. “Apparently you’ve been getting flirted with all night. Looks like Ilya is staking his claims.” Shane’s eyes widened. “What? No, he was just being nice.” “He was offering you his entire night,” Ilya muttered, glaring in the direction the server had gone.

What I imagine their first time without a condom was like. Because we've all thought about it. September 2018 The first time Shane and Ilya have sex without a condom is in Ottawa at Ilya’s new home. They both are about to report for the start of the new season, so Shane came to spend the last few days helping Ilya set up his new home. That night Shane’s parents came over for dinner, and Yuna fussed about what Ilya still needed, and David brought him a case of Coca Cola as a new home present. Everything felt nice and new and in a bubble still, like the cottage had followed them here. Ilya knew that would all change once the season started. It was strange because, in many ways, he had Shane for years at this point. But it felt like now he finally, really had him. And it was already time to let him go for a while. He didn’t realize he was grinding his molars until Shane was pressing up against him. “What are you thinking?” Ilya sighed heavily, sinking back into the couch and pulling Shane closer. “That for the first time in my life I do not want the season to start.” “Oh,” Shane looks slightly startled for a moment before he starts to get that anxious look that is somewhat endearing. “Is it because—well, do you regret coming to Ottawa?” Ilya’s confused for a moment before he realizes what Shane is asking: if he regrets signing with Ottawa to be closer; if he regrets them. Which is the most ridiculous thing he could think. “Is not that,” he traces a finger over Shane’s cheek, the smooth skin, the freckles that have been plaguing his dreams for a long time. “Is just…it was easier before to not see you in- between the times we were together because you were not really mine.” Shane’s features soften, and he lets out a shaky sigh of relief. “Now, will be harder I think.” Shane nods, turning his head to press a kiss to Ily’s open palm. “I think I’ve been yours for a long time now,” Shane admits quietly. In some ways, it’s a deeper admission than the first “I love you” they shared at the cabin. “And I want to um,” Shane cleared his throat nervously, cheeks flushing and eyes flitting down. “I want to really be yours.” Ilya tilted his face back up so that they could look at each other. “You are mine, Hollander.” He couldn’t wait any longer and pulled Shane more firmly into his lap, until the shorter man was straddling his thighs. Using the firm grip on his cheek, Ilya pulled him for a searing kiss. It was competitive but also intense and heated in a way that nearly took his breath away. He felt Shane moan, grinding his erection into Ilya’s stomach. He let his hands travel down Shane’s neck, the strong muscles of his back, until gripping his firm ass. Shane breathlessly breaks the kiss and blurts out, “I want you to fuck me without a condom.” Ilya freezes and a strange feeling swells inside him. He didn’t know it was possible to want Shane more than he already did. He isn’t sure his body can handle the surge of desire that washes over him—Shane’s request, cheeks pink with the admission, hips still slightly rocking against Ilya like he just can’t help it. “You want me to fuck you without a condom,” he repeats back and grips Shane’s ass a little tighter. Shane takes a deep breath, gnawing slightly on his lip before admitting, “I want you to come inside me.” They had vaguely talked about this, and after agreeing at the cabin to give this thing between them a shot, they both went and got tested once they were home. But it hadn’t been brought up again, and honestly, Ilya didn’t want to push it. He felt like the luckiest person in the world to be able to fuck Shane Hollander, to see him at his most vulnerable, to be the one Shane trusted with that. He hadn’t fucked anyone without a condom since he was 16. For many years, he told himself it was because he didn’t want to risk a baby, but he can admit now that it probably was also because Shane was in the back of his mind. That he knew he could never put him at risk. Ilya’s been silent for a few moments, long enough for Shane to start to look nervous again. “We don’t have to,” he says quickly. “If you don’t want to—” Quickly, Ilya stands up, gripping Shane by the thighs, who lets out a yelp as he’s jostled in the air. “Ilya! Put me down.” With a smirk, Ilya makes his way to the bedroom. “Is fine. You weigh nothing.” That wasn’t true, but Ilya tries his hardest not to show the strain of carrying his boyfriend. “Besides, you love it.” Shane rolls his eyes but doesn’t deny it. In the bedroom, he deposits Shane on the bed before leaning over to capture his lips in a filthy kiss. Shane groans into his mouth, bracketing Ily’s hips with his knees, and grinding against him. Ilya puts his hands firmly on Shane’s hips, pinning him to the bed. “Go slow, or are you that eager to have me inside you?” “Fuck you.” “No, fuck you,” he trails his lips down the column of Shane’s neck. “Fuck you bare.” Shane gasps, arching up into him. “Yes, please.” He can’t stop touching Shane or kissing him as they undress, but Ilya keeps the pace purposefully slow. Partly because it drives Shane crazy and partly because he can. He can take his time with Shane Hollander.

Shane and Ilya are both nominated for the MVP award their first year playing together. And Ilya has a plan to recreate another night in Vegas. “Thank you for helping me with the English.” Ilya said. Yuna handed the paper back to Ilya and cupped his cheek. “It really is beautiful. And I never would have guessed I would secretly hope Shane wouldn't win an award, but I also never expected to have a second son who deserved it just as much.” Ilya felt his throat tighten at the sincerity in her words. No matter how many times Yuna outwardly expressed her adoration of him, Ilya never stopped feeling overwhelmingly grateful for his mother in-law’s fierce love. He was about to respond when Shane came through the door of the Las Vegas suite they were sharing with Yuna and David. Ilya's heart skipped as it always did when he saw his husband. “Mom, did you just say you are hoping Ilya wins? What the heck?” Shane said. Hurt and anger flashed in his eyes. Ilya knew Shane loved that his parents saw Ilya as a second son, but Ilya could understand why it still might feel like a betrayal for Yuna not to want Shane to win. “Of course not honey. I was just telling Ilya that I will be happy tonight no matter what happens.” Shane looked unconvinced but moved on anyway. “Are you ready? Dad is waiting for us in the hallway. We don't want to be late to walk the red carpet.” —- Shane was excited to be back at the NHL awards. He didn't go last year, for obvious reasons, but this season had been more than he dared hoped for. The Centaurs accepted him with open arms, he fit on the line with Dillon and Haas, he and Ilya made up the highest scoring power play line in the league and they had won the goddamn Cup. Sure, the media was still getting used to his marriage and the first half of the season it was the only thing they were asked about in post-game interviews, but he'd proven himself. They’d proven themselves. They made it through the red carpet and now they were wandering down the hallway to the theater where the awards would start shortly. Shane’s mind flitted back to what he overheard his mom and Ilya talking about and he found himself so lost in thought that he didn't notice Ilya tell his parents to go find their seats without them. So when Ilya grabbed him and shoved him into a bathroom, it took Shane a minute to get his bearings. He looked over at his grinning husband waiting to see why he had been manhandled on their way to an award ceremony. “Well…” Ilya said. “Well what?” Shane responded, confusion etched in his face. “Well are you going to suck my dick?” Ilya responded, his crooked smile on full display as Shane realized what was happening. “Fuck you, why don't you suck mine?” Shane tried to spit the words at Ilya, the same way he did in a different bathroom ten years ago. But he was unable to hide his smile. “Maybe, ask nice” Ilya responded. “Please.” “You want me to get on my knees on the dirty bathroom floor and suck your dick, you're going to have to ask nicer than that.” “Please get on your knees and suck my dick. Please” he said. Breath hitching. Knowing where this was going, the blood was rushing to his dick. “No. I will not do anything to you in here. We will go back out there, and sit in our seats, and then go to the party. And then, when you have been waiting all night for it, you will come to my hotel room. And I will maybe do more than suck your dick.” Shane feigned outrage. “You're really going to leave me like this?” “Yes. For now. But I will make you a deal, if you win MVP tonight I will suck you, fuck you, whatever you want.” “And if you win?” “I'll let you know.“ —-- Shane was nervous as they got to the MVP award. It was very unusual for two players from the same team to both be nominated for that award. But, it was undeniable that the Centaurs were the best team this season and depending on who you ask, it was either because of Shane or Ilya. Shane had more goals, but Ilya had more assists and their overall points differential was only +2 to Ilya. The award was going to one of them if the voting was fair. But Crowell and the old guard were still homophobic assholes and Shane wouldn't be surprised if they gave it to someone else on principle. He wanted to win, as always, but as long as it was either him or Ilya, he would be happy. The announcer called out the winner - Ilya. He was excited for his husband but part of him was disappointed it was not him. He looked at his mom who was practically bursting with glee. Seriously? What the fuck is going on? He knew Yuna loved Ilya but he also knew she would always put Shane first. This was strange. He was pulled out of his thoughts by Ilya's voice as he started his acceptance speech. “Thank you for giving me, the best hockey player in the league, this award.” Shane rolled his eyes as the crowd chuckled. “Even though I am the best hockey player, there are a lot of people that helped me win this award. To the Centaurs owners and the team management, thank you for creating an inclusive environment that gives space to the players to excel at hockey and thrive as a team and as
