Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov both need one thing to live their dreams of playing for the NHL: a mating bite. Shane's an omega, and the League doesn't allow unmated omegas to play hockey. Ilya's a Russian alpha, who needs a mate to get a U.S. visa. Their slightly harebrained solution? Bite each other, and let the unfinished bond fade. After five years of stupid texts, awkward heat-care packages, and dancing around their feelings, the bond still hasn't faded and ignoring it has become impossible—something's got to give. -- Contains spoilers for those who have only watched the show, and for The Long Game. A/B/O AU that very loosely follows canon. Happy ending!

Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid, Heated Rivalry (TV)

“Only one bed, hm?” Ilya said, looking at Shane with raised eyebrows and a smug grin spreading across his lips. “What was I supposed to tell my parents? ‘Hey, this is my boyfriend, and I’m super excited to bring him around over Christmas, but we need separate rooms to sleep in.’ They’re supposed to believe that we’re like, grossly in love, or whatever.” Or: Shane needs a fake date to the Hollander family's Christmas celebrations to get his parents off his back about his love life. Ilya fucking Rozanov is very likely the worst possible person to play Shane's fake boyfriend. Except, Ilya is kind of convincing...

Home and Not Alone on Christmas by BrigidFaye
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2025-12-23
Ilya decides he and Shane should celebrate their first Christmas as a public couple by hosting the holiday at their cottage with friends and family. And then there are friends and family everywhere, and emotionally charged salads and its all a little too much. Good thing Shane is practiced at soothing out the too muchness. tl;dr Christmasy smut. Vague spoilers for The Long Game. Don't come for me if I messed up some Long Game details - it was lowkey devastating and I have yet to gear up for a reread.

loyalty is a knife by kryptic_girl
Heated Rivalry (TV), Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid
2025-12-23
It's been a hell of a year for the Centaurs. Shane and Ilya are playing their first playoffs together as teammates. An old teammate makes Shane doubt his loyalty. Ilya reminds him just how loyal he is. Or; the one where they win it all. Watching Ilya Rozanov work out was damn near obscene. His smooth, glistening body, covered in beads of sweat as he shoulder-pressed a 150lb barbell above his head was a sight to see. Shane was sure that, with enough incentive, Ilya could press him. That would be a PR he'd happily be part of. "What a sight, right?" Harris said, interrupting Shane's thoughts. Shane startled. Had Harris been standing there long? Shane coughed, making a sorry attempt at collecting himself. "Um, yeah, I..." "Enough said," Harris winked. Shane flushed at being caught, a burning heat rising below his eyes. Not the first time he had been caught with a wandering eye in the Ottawa Centaurs gym. Or locker room. Or really anywhere in the practice facility. Shane had been on the Centaurs since July, when his contract with the voyageurs ended and he became a free agent. Since then, Shane and Ilya had been an unstoppable force. Even though they rarely played on the ice at the same time, save for a few power plays, their chemistry was undeniable. They dominated the league in points, and Shane's position on the second-line made it so their power in the center ran deep. "No, I just lost my focus for a sec," Shane tried, but even as he said it, he heard the quips before they came out. He rolled the dumbbell over in his palm, trying to ground himself and not get lost in a hole of embarrassment. "You seem to be losing your focus a lot lately, huh? I thought we hired you for your keen mental discernment," Troy Barrett said. Jesus, was everyone watching him drool over his husband? Shane made a noise between a grunt and a whimper, trying to end the conversation there. Unfortunately, his husband had the worst timing in the world. Ilya dropped his barbell onto its support and lifted his upper body to come to a seated position. His grey T-shirt clung to the contours of his body, a dark ring of sweat pooling along his neckline. His curls stuck to his forehead, not unlike when he and Shane were... intimate. Shane shuddered at the thought. Ilya noticed the three of them aggregated in the corner by the dumbbells, looking straight at him, and lifted his hand to his ear to pull out one of his earphones. "Are you talking about me?" Ilya said coyly, playing with the cord of his earphones. His charm is infuriating. Troy let out a laugh. "Your husband is obsessed with you." Ilya's grin cracked his face in half. "Can you blame him?" "Ugh, you guys are horrible," Shane groaned. The truth was, Shane was obsessed with him. He didn't realize how good it would feel to share everything with each other. A bed, a gym, a team. It all felt so right. And it still felt so new, despite the past few months of working together. So forgive him if he wanted to savour every moment he spent with his husband, especially after years of hiding. "All right everyone, listen up," Coach Wiebe said as he entered the gym. Ilya winked at Shane. Shane cleared his throat and turned to face his Coach. "This is it. Our second year in a row in the playoffs starts tomorrow. This is our chance to show everyone that it was not a fluke. We've got a great chance of really winning this thing this year, especially with our new additions." Shane felt a slap on his back as Troy whooped. Somehow, Shane felt himself turn an even deeper shade of red. He had been welcomed with open arms by the Cens, but it sometimes shook him just how much he was a part of this team. After playing for the Voyageurs for the better part of a decade, it still felt weird to have a different logo on his jersey. Shane recalled that his first goal as a Centaur – Ilya wouldn’t let him forget it, he’d kept the puck – had caused quite the roar in the arena where they played. They called him a hometown hero now. "Now, I know you all want to decorate this place with banners as much as I do, so let's get to work." *** Coach Wiebe was right. They really did have a chance at winning this whole thing. In the first round against Buffalo, every pass connected, their defence was on fire, and Hayes was an iron wall. They swept them, 4-0. Their second round against the Admirals was mildly tougher. Scott Hunter might have been older, but he was still as fast as an arrow when he needed to be. To make matters worse, Luca Haas had been rocked into the glass in their third game and was put on a mandatory three game rest. The Cens readjusted, and Ilya took on Luca's position on the wing. Shane came up to center on the first line. Their chemistry on the ice was unbeatable. It was like they were in each other's brains. He wasn’t sure he would ever enjoy playing hockey after being abandoned by the Voyageurs. Playing with this team – playing with Ilya – it made hockey fun again. They won that series by game 6, 4-2. In their last series in the eastern conference, they were matched up against Montreal. Because of course they were. Whatever angry, homophobic gods were responsible for this were probably laughing down at Shane as he took to center ice to kick off game seven. "Hollander," came a squeaky voice from across the center circle. The arena comes to life as Aaron Goulding, a fresh-faced 19 year old rookie, lines up against Shane for the puck drop. Aaron was supposed to be the new Shane Hollander. Shane had to admit, he was fast -- but his inexperience was obvious. Shane smirked at Goulding's attempt at being tough. "Aaron," Shane replied coolly. The only place Shane ever felt cool was on the ice. "It's an honour," Goulding said. Shane smiled into the floor.

“Okay, fine, fine, fine. I’ll stop bugging you about Miles. Or anyone for that matter.” “Thank you.” “I do have a question, though.” Sigh. “Yes?” “Actually, two questions. One - do you know that guy across the bar? And two - do you know why he’s been looking at me like I killed his dog?” or: For some reason, Shane and Ilya keep running into each other at boring research conferences. Shane’s almost positive Ilya can’t stand him.

“What do you want, Hollander?” Ilya gasps out, surprised he’s capable of even formulating a simple thought, “Tell coach what you want.” He’s the older one, the mature one, the one with all the power. The least he could do is ask Shane what he wants. Shane pauses his movements before looking up and meeting eyes with his coach. Brown eyes almost seem to sparkle with tears, mouth agape with soft little pants. He trembles slightly, overwhelmed by the question, as if he doesn't know what to say. Finally, he adjusts his knees on the cold, hard floor and lets go of the pulsing cock in his hand before leaning back slightly. Eyes shut closed, he takes a breath. “Fuck my throat, coach.” ___ Coach Ilya and his star player Shane have been sleeping with each other for a year.

Two certainties defined Shane Hollander's life: he was falling in love with Ilya Rozanov, and he was keeping a career-ending secret. When Ilya discovers Shane's suppressants on the heels of seeing Shane injured during a game, fear makes them say things they both regret. Nine months later at the All-Star Game, accidentally running into Ilya in the hotel elevator triggers a breakthrough heat—forcing the two idiots to finally talk (and fuck). -- Contains spoilers for those who have only watched the show, and for The Long Game. A/B/O AU that diverges from canon right after Shane is injured in Chapter 21 (and episode 5) of Heated Rivalry. Happy ending!

"You're supposed to smoke over there." Someone said from behind Ilya. Ilya almost dropped his cigarette. His English was shitty, but he had studied that sentence enough times over the years to understand it immediately. He didn't even think about his words much anymore, but it was impossible to avoid them. He turned instinctively, and was face to face with Shane fucking Hollander. Out of almost seven billion people, of course Ilya's soulmate had to be his fated rival. It was almost poetic. Still, Ilya had enough sense to realize just how bad this was. or, Shane says Ilya's soulmate words. Ilya vows to never speak a word to him to keep him from finding out. They fall in love anyway.

Aching, Aching, Aching, and Alive by verbaepulchellae
Game Changers Series - Rachel Reid, Heated Rivalry (TV)
2025-11-13
They’re getting into a rhythm now, though, and Shane can see it. He can see this team winning the Cup this year. He tries not to get ahead of himself, tries to stay focused and go game by game, reminds himself that building up a team takes time and several seasons, but god. He wants this legacy: for himself, for Ottawa, for Ilya. For both of them and everyone else. Which is why, goddamnit, now is not the time to crash out over fantasies of Ilya working his whole hand down to the wrist into Shane’s ass and fucking him on his fist. And yet. Shane should know by now that timing and “good ideas” are rarely factors in whether or not he gets obsessed with something. OR: It starts, as a surprising number of things actually do, with a text from Rose.

“If I didn’t know better,” Ilya had drawled, mostly teasing, as Shane pressed adoring, apologetic kisses into his shoulder, after a hard night out a few months back. “I’d think you were embarrassed to be with me. A first for me. I will try not to let it wound my pride.” “You’re pride is fine,” Shane griped out of habit and then had nuzzled closer, held Ilya tighter because he hated that he could make Ilya feel that way. “I’m sorry. I know I do it. It’s hard for me after so long. I love you so much, it scares me shitless sometimes.” Shane's working on letting go of the control that's kept him and Ilya safe for the past ten years. The fact that he's Shane Hollander means that he's got a plan. The fact that he's with Ilya Rozanov means that plan involves fucking him stupid. And for once, Shane's kind of ready to be the one who drives Ilya out of his mind.

Ilya is captivated watching Troy and Shane get closer and closer to each other on the dance floor. Harris leans up to press his mouth to Ilya’s ear to shout over the music. Harris sounds almost out of breath when he tells Ilya, “Please don’t take this the wrong way, but they are so hot together.”
Ilyas shoulders shake with laughter and he nods his head, keeping his eyes on his dancing husband and teammate. “Do you think they know they are putting on a show for us?”
Ilya is afraid of getting boring, so he arranges a night out during Pride in New York. Harris drunkenly reveals a fantasy he's been harboring, and Ilya wants to help. Smut ensues.

“How should we expect this night to go?” The reporter was hyped up. Ilya couldn’t blame them; the rivalry between Ottawa and Toronto was as new as it was personal. There was no shortage of stories to write, and they all knew it. So Ilya shrugged when he answered. “We will see. Perhaps a visit to the penalty box–” he smirked. “My vacation home.” Ilya liked to tell reporters that the Toronto penalty box was becoming his vacation home. He liked saying it; Centaurs’ fans liked him saying it; the Toronto fans loathed it, too. Win-win-win. Ilya Rozanov and his teammates have a bad habit of ending up in Toronto's penalty box. Shane Hollander has a special gift for the penalty kill.
