A statement released in July, 2022 on the official Centaurs social media channels: "In October of last year, Shane and Ilya became temporary foster parents to one of the students that had participated in the Irina Foundation's hockey camps after he was abandoned by his birth parents for coming out as queer. Since then they have pursued first permanent foster placement and adoption. That adoption was granted and finalized this month. Mac Hollander -Rozanov has been in many pictures that, with his permission, are being re- edited and re-uploaded to remove the emojis that were used to protect his identity in accordance with the government's guidelines." An additional paragraph added to a photo Ilya and Shane shared to their personal Instagrams: "Family looks different for everyone, and our family is no different. Mac is our son, and we are so incredibly proud of him and his achievements. We hope that the hockey community will be as respectful of him as they are of other children of players."

Ilya is certain he's never been so scared in his life. "Relax, babe." Shane's arms wrap around his waist, chin digging into his shoulder blade. Clearly Shane does not share the same concerns as he does. "It's just a fever, she's fine." (Or, alternatively, baby Ilina is sick and Ilya is struggling.)

Ilya snorts from where he's perched at the island, cup of coffee under his nose. "Do you have to yell so loud?" Shane glares at his husband. "Your daughter is not a morning person. So, yes, I do." "She is only my daughter when you do not get along." (or, alternatively, married hollanov with their bundle of sassy joy, Ilina.)

“I signed two shoes,” Ilya admitted, holding up two fingers. “But only two. I say no third shoe. That is limit.” Shane burst out laughing. “You have an autograph policy for six-year-olds?” “I must,” Ilya said, shrugging. “Otherwise I would have been there all night.” or: for once Ilya is the one to pick up his and Shane's son from school. Of course he has to show everyone there that he is, in fact, a cool dad.

It's been a wonderfully blissful summer. They’ve spent most of it at their house in Ottawa, only having a brief window at the cottage right before the twins arrived. But it’s alright, Shane is already planning how they’ll spend the entirety of next summer at the cottage. Ilya is really looking forward to seeing them in cute baby swimsuits and big floaties. Unfortunately, this bubble they’re living in will pop tomorrow. (Or: Shane and Ilya prepare to spend the first day apart from their twins.)

Shane wasn't looking back at him. He assumed that Ilya would be paying attention to the game, not its spectators. Sofia was sat upright in his lap. He was moving her back and forth to follow the puck. Ilya could see his mouth moving, even at this distance- no doubt he was explaining the rules to her infant ears. Hockey would be her first language. Sofia was more interested in the person holding her than the game. She tipped her little head back, back, back until she was looking up at her dad. The two of them smiled, and then Shane leaned down ever so slightly. He was brushing their noses together in the softest little nuzzle Ilya had ever seen. When he was done, Shane pressed a kiss onto her forehead. At twenty-three, Shane Hollander was convinced that life after hockey would be empty. He couldn't imagine a world where he'd be completely happy without the focus and drive that came with playing a professional sport. By thirty-seven, Shane was convinced that life after hockey was better. Who needed skates and sticks when your daughter was looking up at you with such a perfect, tiny smile, and your husband was winning games for all three of you?
