  1. The first time it happens, JJ's soul jolts in its neatly held spot, and then splits right down the middle.

    Shane—quiet, brilliant, dependable Shane—is smiling.

    At him.

It's not his neatly caged media smile, or the smirk that Hayden gets; it's a tiny little grin, the corner of his mouth pulled up, a pinched furrow between his brow as if he's surprised that he thinks JJ is funny. His eyes are crinkled, his canines gleaming between the curve of his lips as he tilts his head to the side and says something.

OR: For JJ, there is no fall. There is only Shane Hollander, and enduring.

  2. It's kind of hilarious and tooth-rottingly sweet that the rookies are all so anxious over meeting Roz's girl. Or, wait, should it be his boy? Fuck, his Jane? Shit, Cliff doesn't fucking know. He probably should, though, but that's something to think about another day. He'll just stick with Roz's Jane for now—makes it easier for everyone, probably. Jane's been haunting Boston for for-fucking-ever, which, shit—he's definitely curious about how long their whole thing has been going on.

He glances over his shoulder, catching sight of Breezy's tense mouth, their nerves apparent as Los knocks his shoulder into Ovi's; all three are muttering together, clearly anxious for tonight to go well.

Still, how they're standing itches at him. There’s something… off about the rookies.

OR: Boston welcomes Montreal on their home turf. Movie night beckons in the aftermath. The rookies' questions aren't the only wheel of fortune that's turning.

  3. Initially, it had been time-consuming to sort through the waves of portent, how much to share, when to talk to Theriault, and what it meant for the team. And yet, in the end, despite the demands for more from his orphic voyages from management, nothing ever gets done with the information. More often than not, now that he’s captain, it's Hayden and JJ just idly texting all of their visions—none of which are exceptionally helpful, although the drama of hearing bits of gossip is just more exciting than anything else.

Shane's just—it's so fucking stupid. Why keep the useless magic laced through Montreal if all it does is splinter under the weight? Why endanger the team with malicious prophecies if only one person seems to bear the brunt? Why force anyone to see the slices of deeply personal life Shane's glimpsing?

OR: The night before the Boston game, Shane makes a series of discoveries. Nearly all are terrible.
