“Is that really why you're single? You're afraid you'd let your partner down?”

Ilya took a sip and tried to battle the urge to be honest, but it was useless. He had developed an Achilles heel, and it came with beautiful brown eyes that were currently piercing straight through his soul.

“I think I am single because I have fun being single,” Ilya started with the easier part of his answer, and he saw Shane nod. That part was expected.

Ilya took a shaky breath before he admitted the rest. “And I have not met anyone that I wanted to be with, enough. One time, maybe. But was not possible.”

Shane and Ilya stop hooking up during their rookie season after their secret is almost exposed. Six years later, Scott Hunter comes out and changes everything. Ilya and Shane decide to forge an unlikely friendship as they navigate the league, coming out, and Scott Hunter's annoying queer group chat.

And they accidentally fall in love, obviously.
