“No, my parents–” Shane cuts himself off, darting his eyes away from the road to meet Ilya’s. “They know about you.” “Yes,” says Ilya, dragging the single syllable and nodding just as slowly. Though Shane’s returned his attention to the highway, he can feel Ilya’s confused stare. “I was in Hollander house, drinking David’s nice vodka and eating Yuna’s good pasta. She is much better cook than you, surely you know this. But yes, I was there, they know I am your boyfriend.” “Ilya, no, well, I mean yes, but–” “I am supposed to be one bad with English,” mutters Ilya. “Are my parents the first people to know you aren’t straight?” Or, on the car ride home, Shane realizes he isn't the only one who got caught today.
