HOME | LOGIN | PRIVACY POLICY | RSS | SOLVED BLIND ITEMS | TOS | TWITTER Sports Blind Item #1102 | A Relationship Years in the Making | July 05, 2021 Back in March, two famous NHL players were forced out of the closet unintentionally by another player on accident through a service called FanMail. So, let’s start with FanMail: FanMail, a video platform for celebrities to rake in extra cash to wish peasants like us happy birthdays, was taken down for a week in March while they were sorting out a ‘technical issue.’ The reason? There was no feature to review a video before posting, which was why it was taken down (users had to use Cameo instead, which has more expensive fees than FanMail). Many sports stars use FanMail, including NHL players, because they genuinely want to connect with their fans. But what’s this got to do with Ice Hockey, BG? The NHL was famously known for having no openly LGBT players, up until a few years ago, until Scott Hunter famously kissed Christopher "Kip" Grady after winning the Stanley Cup for the New York Admirals in 2017. Over North America, teams like to take part in inclusive Pride Nights, sell rainbow jerseys and merch, while making sure everyone knows that Hockey is for Everyone while donating millions to LGBT charities. And yet, in the entire history of the NHL, only two players who are currently active have ever come out publicly. Hockey is a complicated and nuanced game, after all. Who is in our cast for this blind today? Today’s cast features the following: Let's call them Player #1, Player #2, and Player #3. Let’s start with Player #1: Player #1 is your classic sweetheart NHL star with no controversies. He has an impressive resume with plenty of brands and awards tucked under his belt. He is also fiercely private about his personal life, with rumours over the years have hinted that he might be gay. Player #1 and Player #2 are “rivals”. Player #2 is a foreign-born player who’s bounced his way in and out of puck bunnies all over America until a few years ago. A true hockey pest, he never shies away from poking fun at other players or saying exactly what’s on his mind during games - usually in his first language, Refrigerator! Player #3 is on the same team as Player #1, but is not close with Player #2. Now, about FanMail: Player #3 made a FanMail post while at Player #1’s house, in his backyard. He sent the video, not realising that you can see in the background, Player #1 and Player #2 were making out in the house. The video was quickly reposted to Twitter by the recipient of this video. It wasn’t seen by many normies, as it was tagged to 50+ chronically online NHL players and their WAGs. It was taken down before the video could potentially spread like wildfire. The NHL quickly lawyered up and sent the recipient a rather threatening letter to keep the video quiet. But it had already been seen by other WAGs and players who had been tagged in it and a thus, copy of the video ended up in their respective group chats. What makes this so controversial? The truth is, Blind fans, this hot rivalry of a relationship has been going on, quietly, behind everyone else’s back, even from other players (Except it seemed Player #3). Sources are suggesting it goes back at least A DECADE. Player 1# and Player #2 have claimed to hate each other for years. They chirp on the ice, off the ice, check each other into the boards, and occasionally end up with Player #2 trying to trip Player #1 with his stick. Player #2 shocked his fans by switching teams a few years ago, to a team only a few hours away from Player #1 - now we know why! It is obvious that it was to be nearer to his partner. Player #1 hasn’t had a good time since The Outing. He does not get invited to events hosted by WAGs anymore, and his contract has not been renewed with his usual team next season, even though he is their star player and has been with them for many years. Player #2, by contrast, hasn’t had any issues with The Outing. His team are very supportive of him. Woof! Player #3, bless his soul, was mortified by the whole thing. He apologised endlessly, but like Player #1, his contract won’t be renewed next season either. They’ll probably end up going to Player #2’s team, who are much nicer players and more fun to be around, even though they're terrible on the ice. Oh, and did we mention Player #1 and #2 are engaged? Why are we talking about it now? The NHL tried to keep FanMail and some other players quiet, but after a recent reshuffle upstairs to attempt to rebrand, it seemed the timing was finally right to air out this long-hidden closet. Player #1 and #2 don't want to hide themselves anymore and the NHL have given up trying to keep this contained. And what better way than to tell North America this via an upcoming documentary, which is much classier than a random Instagram post, to announce their impending marriage? Get ready, internet. Meltdown is imminent when it airs. 7 Comments | Sorted by: ↑ Top Rated
