“You're married?” Doctor Pike asks.

“Only recently,” Shane says, “but we were together for eight years before getting married.” He smiles, and thinking about his husband provides a little bit of solace amidst thinking about his lost wedding band.

“You definitely came to work with it?”

“Definitely.” Shane murmurs. “I keep it on. My husband works nights in the ER, so we’re like ships passing in the night. I keep it on since we don't get to see each other often.” His brow furrows, heart sinking in his chest a little at his lost wedding band.

“Husband? In the ER?”
