Shane opens his mouth a few times, like he tries to get words out without succeeding. “But it hurt you too,” he says finally. “You just wanted to check on me, your fucking boyfriend, after I got hit. And I pushed you away.” Usually, hearing Shane refer to himself as Ilya's boyfriend sends a warm shiver down his spine. But now, with that almost venomous voice, the shiver is instead cold as ice. OR, Shane gets injured during a game and Ilya is once again forced to see him unmoving on the ice. Neither of them handles the aftermath well.
