Summary:

During introductory interviews, Ilya always got the same types of questions: when did he start playing ice hockey? Did he learn to skate as soon as he learned to walk? Did he spend his entire childhood on the ice to be as good as he was at ice hockey? He always laughed them off, making the same kind of jokes about being able to skate before he could walk and skipping school to be on the rink instead. Don’t be like me, kids, he told the interviewers and the cameras. Don’t skip school.

The truth is that Ilya’s first love wasn’t actually skating.
